Machine description
The mountable snow blade is intended for plowing snow. The snow blade can be tilted left, right or
center. It is equipped with an elastic overload safeguard on the snow aprons. The hydraulic function
swivelling (special option) is done by a double-action pilot circuit. The snow blade can be mounted
basically onto all carrier vehicles (such as wheel lifters, Unimog trucks, ...).
1.2
This list is just an excerpt of the possible optional auxiliaries available. Ask your bema dealer about
additional equipment.
1.3
Instructions
This operator and maintenance manual was written for the operator, the maintenance, and the operating personnel. All information necessary for operation and maintenance are contained in this
manual. These operating instructions should therefore be read by the personnel before use and
commissioning, and must be available to the personnel at all times.
1.4
The bema snow blade has been designed exclusively for clearing snow from traffic areas. bema accepts no responsibility for damages due to unintended use (e.g. planing, transporting loads, etc.). All
guarantees are voided. Components needed for maintenance may be supplied only by bema or may
be only original bema parts. Any modification to the snow blade has to be cleared with bema. The
guarantee is canceled if third-party parts are used. Manufacturer specifications on the prescribed operation, maintenance, and repair conditions must be observed.
Page 6
1.5
Accident prevention
Operating a snow blade has certain risks, which you as operator, maintenance,
and operating personnel can counteract.
A number of safety rules follow that should be strictly adhered to. The adherence to these rules will
ensure your safety and that of other people as well as preventing damage to the machine.
The appropriate national working rules and laws should be observed to avoid accidents.
1.6
The appropriate laws should be observed if it is desired to use this vehicle on public roads.
If use is permitted, due consideration should be given to other road users.
Special care must be taken of other road users.
Page 7
2 Service
If the machine remains out of use for a period of more than 4 weeks, a complete inspection of the
machine has to be undertaken.
The condition and the functionality of the machine should be checked in the following circumstances:
1. Prior to commissioning
2. At regular intervals (every two weeks)
3. After modification or repairs
2.1
Service list
The following points are general recommendations and are not specific to every snow blade. The
points are specifically explained for each series/plowing machine in the relevant chapters.
During the annual service all screws and bolts should be checked for tightness and retightened if
necessary. Weld joints on heavily stressed components should be checked for flaws and cracks.
A visual inspection should be made of the hydraulic system to check for leaks.
The completeness and correct fastening of all safety devices should be checked.
A visual inspection should be made of the machine mounting device.
The wheel bearings should be greased regularly (every 30 hours.)
Check the mobility of the rollers.
The electrical system should be checked to ensure that it is functional.
The hydraulic hoses, pipes, and connections should be visually checked for damage.
2.2
2.2.2 Grease
The machine leaves the factory with greasable parts greased with a multi-purpose grease that has a
working temperature range of 35 to +120 C. The use of other grease is allowed providing they have
the same range of temperature tolerance as the original, factory inserted grease.
2.3
Hydraulic hoses
Because of national safety regulations the owner/operator of the snow blade must ensure that the hydraulic hoses are replaced at regular intervals as required. This is also the case when no apparent
technical safety deficiency is visible. The operative life of the hoses should not exceed 6 years. The
manufacturing date and the permitted pressure can be read on the hose covering material.
Page 8
When exchanging the hydraulic hoses the replacements should be ordered from bema or be approved by bema in writing, otherwise any claims for personal injury or material damage will be cancelled.

5.1
5.1.2 General
To connect the lighting equipment a plug needs to be attached to the carrier vehicle that is protected by a 10A lead fuse.
5.2
The snow blade is mounted to the carrier vehicle without tools by the snow blade's mounting device
(mounting equipment of the respective carrier vehicle).
When attaching the hydraulic lines to the carrier vehicle make sure that they are not twisted or folded
and are protected against outside damage.
The mounting equipment may not be modified or exchanged without prior consent by bema.
Only original bema mounting equipment may be used.
The snow blade has to be level for optimal clearing operation.
After the mounting, all screws and safety devices have to be checked for
firm attachment.
A mounted snow blade can have a negative influence on the carrier vehicle's
driving characteristics.
Page 10
balance centrally
For this type of mounting the assembly instructions of the carrier vehicle manufacturer need to
be followed.
An SW 24 wrench is needed to adjust any stop
screws.
The counter nut has to be loosened first in order to set the stop length of the screws.
Balance the mounting plate centrally so that the
snow blade has enough room to move up and
down.

shipping brace
supports
Figure 3: Unimog mount
Page 11
The hydraulic jack of the Unimog mount needs to be extended before transport so that the shipping brace can be inserted above the roller carriage. This
secures the snow blade against sinking.
After removing the snow blade from the carrier vehicle ensure its stability by
folding down the supports.
5.3
Lighting equipment
When clearing public traffic routes the snow blade is subject to identification according to road traffic
licensing regulations. The snow blade can be equipped with lighting equipment to meet the requirements of the road traffic licensing regulations. The standard light system consists of two positioning
lights with a set of cables and a plug (7-pin).
A socket needs to be mounted on the carrier vehicle in a suitable place to the
connection.
5.4
Transportation
The following safety instructions must be observed when transporting a snow blade:
The snow blade may be transported only when raised.
Secure the snow blade against sinking during transport.
When using public traffic routes observe the road traffic regulations and road traffic licensing regulations.
5.5
Power supply
5.5.1 Hydraulics
Connect the hydraulic connectors attached to the hydraulic lines to the carrier vehicle.
Make sure that the hydraulic lines are not twisted or folded.
Due to faulty oil seals hydraulic oil can leak into the environment and permanently damage the environment. In case oil leaks are discovered, the machine
has to be shut down by the operator immediately and be repaired by a technician.
5.5.2 Electric
The electrical connection of the lighting system should be connected to the connector(s) on the carrier
vehicle.
6 Machine operation
6.1
Clearing snow
Bring the snow blade into operative position. This can be done by tilting the carrier vehicle mount in
vertical position. The Vulkolan strips have to touch the ground thereby. Adjust the snow blade by
turning the variably height-adjustable rollers so that the Vulkolan strip is about 5mm above the
ground. This reduces the wear and makes scrape-free clearing possible.
Swiveling to the side (left/right) allows for depositing the cleared mass to the side.
Page 12
6.2
When removing the snow blade from the carrier vehicle make sure that the snow blade has a stable
position.
Set the supports so that the carrier vehicle mounting plate is vertical.
The support wheels of the snow blade have to point towards the rear.
Place the hydraulic connection lines over the snow blade.
Make use of any supports.
7 Replacements
7.1
Vulkolan segments
Attention
Attention
All setting and maintenance work may be carried out only when the
machine is at a standstill. Switch off the motor of the carrier vehicle
and withdraw the ignition key.
Remove the attachment nuts and clamp bar on the spring aprons and replace the Vulkolan segments
with new ones. Use new attachment nuts during reassembly.
Tip:
All Vulkolan segments should be replaced at the same time to ensure an even ground contact.
8 Safety
The following points have to be observed when operating a snow blade:
Observe the lighting requirements of the road traffic licensing regulations when operating the
snow blade on public traffic routes.
It is prohibited that other persons are present in the vicinity of operation during clearing.
All setting and maintenance work may be carried out only when the machine is at a standstill.
Switch off the motor of the carrier vehicle and withdraw the ignition key.
After operation check that all screws are mounted securely and if necessary retighten.
Replace damaged hydraulic lines and hoses immediately with original replacement parts.
If the snow blade has to be transport for a greater distance, it needs to be secured against sinking
and independent tilting.
