Labette Center calls for Nominations for the

Fifth Annual Care and Compassion Awards
Labette Center for Mental Health Services (LCMHS)
is asking for nominations for the fifth annual Care and
Compassion Awards. The Care and Compassion Awards
recognize those in the Labette County community and
LCMHS staff members who routinely go above and beyond to show care and compassion to others.
Nominees can be anyone in the Labette County community, including employees of LCMHS, who have gone
above and beyond to show care and compassion to others, LCMHS Executive
Director Matthew Atteberry said. This person does not necessarily have to be
someone who volunteers for a lot of different things, but someone who is extraordinarily caring and routinely demonstrates compassion towards others.
Community members and LCMHS staff may submit entries. All entries must
have the name of the person being nominated, an address and if possible a phone
number. It is also helpful to include the name and phone number for the person
who is submitting the nomination. A detailed description of why the person is being nominated must also be included. For more details on submitting an entry for
the award, individuals can visit Labette Centers website at www.lcmhs.com or on
Facebook at www.facebook.com/LCMHS, or call Monica Simpson at 620-4213770 or 800-303-3770, email monica@lcmhs.com. Be sure to like the Centers
Facebook page to receive updates and information about the Care and Compassion Awards.
The deadline for entries is 5 pm February 20th, 2015. Entries will then be reviewed, judged, and Award winners chosen by February 28th. Award winners will
be officially announced during the annual Care and Compassion Awards Banquet.
Entries can be mailed to, or dropped off at Labette Center for Mental Health Services, PO Box 258, 1730 Belmont, Parsons, KS 67357, attention: Monica Simpson. All mailed entries should have CCAB on the envelope. Entries may also
be submitted through our website, www.lcmhs.com or our Facebook page.

United States Navy Reserve by her Reserve Component employee,
Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrea N. Geiger.
In Geigers nomination of Dickerson she stated, Sandra Dickerson goes out of her way to accommodate time off for my military
duties. Not only does she take on my job responsibilities, but she
calls to check on my family and me several times a week while I
am gone. She offers her support with anything my family might

Lead Your Health Workshop

LCMHS is hosting a "Lead Your Health, Living with a Chronic
condition" workshop! Trinette Vance, Health Home Care Coordinator, and Deb Williams, MHA, MMPA, will present this exciting workshop geared to help individuals learn how to manage
their health needs. This program, which is a six week workshop,
will begin on Wednesday January 21st and last through Wednesday Feberuary 25th.Participants will meet at 1:30 pm each of
these Wednesdays and will be dismissed no later than 4:00 pm.
There will be an informational/registration meeting offered on
Wednesday January 14th. This workshop is available to all community members at no cost.
This workshop will be held at the Rector Diabetes Center, South
Hwy 59, Parsons KS. For LCMHS clients, if transportation is a
barrier, please contact one of the individuals providing the workshop and they will attempt to coordinate it.
Lead Your Health is a highly interactive workshop series that
promotes the development of skills necessary to lead a healthy
life with any physical or mental chronic condition, like arthritis,
depression, heart and lung disease, schizophrenia, diabetes, etc.
The program was developed by Stanford University and is used
around the world. It is all about "self-management" in that it

helps people regain control and make positive decisions about

the direction of their life and health. We teach people about different tools they can use in various situations, promote things
like being prepared for doctor's appointments with a list of problems, symptoms, medications, etc. Program graduates typically
feel more activated, more able to advocate for themselves, and
more prepared to live their life rather than live their diagnosis.
There needs to be a minimum of 12 participants to proceed with
the workshop and the maximum is 20. There are currently still
available openings. If you or someone you know could benefit
from learning more self-management skills and adding to their
personal 'toolbox' of leading their health please share this information with them. This workshop is not condition-specific, so
regardless of whether it's asthma, arthritis, diabetes, bipolar, or
depression, this class can benefit people regardless of their diagnosis. The curriculum was developed by Stanford University and
Trinette Vance and Deb Williams will be the leaders!
For more information about the Lead Your Health workshop,

Emphasis on character development as
a means of equipping teens to survive and thrive

Parenting skills necessary for developing qualities of courage, cooperation, respect,
