There are TWO (2) sections to this paper

Answer any TWO (2) questions in Section A.

Answer any FOUR (4) questions in Section B.

The complete examination in Anatomy is in two parts:


Written paper is worth 75%; Viva is worth 25%

Answer Section A and B in separate booklets.

Maximum marks = 75.

Section A
Answer any two of the questions below:

1. Describe the anatomy of the infra-temporal fossa within 1cm of the temporomandibular joint. Include details of the pathway of pain from the joint to the central
nervous system.
2. Describe the origin, course and distribution of the facial (VIIn) nerve, with particular
references to its functional components and any innervation to the oral cavity.
3. During the placement of a dental implant in the mandibular first molar region, the
drill perforates the lingual plate of bone and the patient experiences severe
bleeding. Describe the blood supply to this region including any connections to the
great vessels of the neck.
4. Describe the anatomy of the maxillary sinus with particular emphasis on its
relationship to the dentition, communication with other regions, innervation and
blood supply.

Answer any four of the questions below:
1. Give an account of the lymphatic drainage of the dentition.
2. Write short notes on the embryology of the tongue as it relates to its nerve
supply.
3. Describe the motor innervation to the extraocular muscles.
4. With the aid of a diagram, describe the sphenoid bone.
5. Write short notes on the course and distribution of the recurrent laryngeal nerve.
6. Describe the blood supply to the palate (including its course from the heart).
