PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Project Introduction:
This project will check your knowledge of the configuration and
management of email and Web services. The
project gives you an opportunity to apply your knowledge of the
lessons in this course and improve your
proficiency in responding to a variety of critical questions about email
and Web services. A network
administrator is expected to be able to evaluate a set of business
requirements and determine what services
and protocols will need to be implemented. ComCo Ltd. is an
established firm in the IT sector, which has
been in business for more than 10 years.
ComCo Ltd. will require numerous services and protocols and the
associated security in place to provide
email and Web services to internal and external users.
This project is assigned to you in Week 1 and is due for submission in
two parts: Part 1 is due at the end of
Week 3 and Part 2 is due in Week 6.
Successful completion of this project will ensure that you can design
and implement email and Web services
for an organization. To do so, you need to do the following:
Transform business requirements into Web and email service solutions.
Differentiate between different Web server and email server options.
Understand the configuration options for a streaming Web server.
Secure streaming media and email servers.
Create a disaster recovery plan for an enterprise organization.
Install an email server in an enterprise environment.
Configure client access and remote email access.
Estimate project time and costs.

Criteria
Title: Designing an Application Server
You have been tasked with researching and designing an application
server to host Web sites, FTP sites, and streaming media. This server
will
be used for both internal and external access. In order to complete this
task, you must answer the following questions:
Do you think IIS is the best choice for this server? If so, why? If not,
why and what solution would you suggest?
What ports need to be open to host ftp, http, https, and streaming
media? Do you think there will be any security concerns with having
all of these ports open on the same server? If so, why? If not, why
not?
Should there be separate servers for internal and external access?
If so, why? If not, why not?
What do you recommend to the management as a disaster
recovery plan? What do you think are the strengths of your plan?
What are the challenges you anticipate in your plan and how can
these be mitigated?
Support your opinion with your findings from your research and
readings.
Submission Requirements:
Submit your answer in a six- to eight-page Microsoft Word document,
double-spaced, using APA format. Send the document to your
instructor
as an attachment through the Questa Learning Plan.

Title: Design an Email Infrastructure
ComCo Ltd. is an established firm in the IT sector, which has been in
business for more than 10 years. You have been tasked with designing
the email system of ComCo. Ltd. Your managers would like the most
efficient and convenient solution to be implemented. In order to
complete
this task, you must answer the following questions:
What email server product would you choose? Why did you make
this choice?
Do you need to host Active Directory in order to support this
solution? If so, what version of Microsoft Server would you
suggest? If not, what server operating system would you suggest
be implemented?
If you do need to host Active Directory, would you place it on the
same server hosting Exchange? If so, why or why not?
Would you suggest the implementation of Outlook Web Access
(OWA) and Outlook Anywhere? How would you secure these
protocols if you did implement them?
What software would you suggest that clients use? Are there any
free alternatives to Outlook that could be implemented?
Will you support remote email access? If so, what firewall ports
must be open and what protocols use each port?
What would be the total cost for the servers, software, and labor to
complete this project in its entirety?
