Sheets shall be laid directly on the concretesurface with the light-colored side up and overlapped 300 mm (12) when
a continuous sheet is not used. The curing medium shall not be less than 450 mm (18) wider than the concrete
surface to be cured, and shall be securely weighted down by heavy wood planks, or by placing a bank of moist earth
along edges, and laps in the sheets. Sheets shall be satisfactory repaired or replaced if torn or otherwise cured for
not less than 7 days.
3. Membrane-Curing Method: the entire exposed surface shall be covered with a membrane-forming curing
compound. Where type 1 curing compound is used, the concrete surface shall be shaded from the direct
rays of the sun for a period of 3 days immediately after spraying. Curing compound shall be applied in two
coats by hand-operated pressure sprayers at a coverage of approximately 200 square feet per gallon for
both coats. The second coat shall be applied in a direction approximately at right angles to the direction of
application of the first coat. The compound shall be free from pinholes or other imperfections. Apply an
additional coat to all surfaces showing discontinuity pin holes or other defects. Concrete surface that are
subjeted to heavy rainfall within 3 hours after curing compound has been applied shall be resprayed by the
above method and at the above coverage at no additional cost to the Owner. Expansion-joint openings
shall be sealed at the top by inserting moisted paper or fiber rope or covering with strips of water proof
paper prior to the application of the curing compound, in a manner to prevent the curing compound entering
the joint. Concret surfaces to which membrane-curing compounds have been applied shall be adequately
protected for 7 days from pedestrian and vehicular traffic and from any other action that might disrupt the
continuity of the membrane. Any area covered with curing compound and damaged by subsequent
construction operations within the 7-day curing period shall be resprayed as specified above at no
additional expense to the Owner.
E. OPENING TO TRAFFIC
Preclude any or all kinds of traffic over the concrete pavement for a period of 10 days or longer if the
Engineer deems it necessary to extend this time. Maintain satis factory barricades to exclude all traffic on
the pavement. Repair of damage to the pavement due to traffic is at the expense of the Contractor.

UNIT PAVERS
1.0 GENERAL
1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawing and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and
Divisions 1 Specifications, apply to this Section.
1.02 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes the following:
1. Stone pavers set in aggregate setting bed.
B. Related Sections: The following Sections contain requirements that related to this Section:
1. Section 0220 Earthwork: for compacted subgrade and subbase course.
2. Section 03300 Portland Cement Concrete Paving: for concrete base course.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. General: Submit each item in this Article according to the Conditions of the Contract and Section 01100
Items for Submission by the Contractor.
B. Products data for the following:
1. Stone pavers.
C. Samples for initial selection in the form of manufacturers color charts consisting of actual units or sections
of units showing the full range of colors, textures, patterns available for each tupe of unit paver indicated.
D. Qualification data for rims and persons specified in the Quality Assurance Article to demonstrate their
capabilities and experience. Include list of completed projects with project names and addresses, names
and addresses of architects and owners, and other information specified.
1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Installer Qualifications: Engage an Experience Installer who has completed unit paver installations similar in
material, design, and extent to that indicated for this Project and with a record of succesfull in-service
performance.
B. Single-Source Responsibility: Obtain each color,type, and variety of unit pavers, joint materials, and setting
materials from a singlr source with resources to provide products and materials of consistent quality in
appearance and physical properties without delaying the Work.
C. Mockup: Prior to installing unit pavers, construct mockup for each form and pattern of unit pavers required to
verify selections made under sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects as well as qualities of
materials and execution. Build mockups to comply with the following requirements, using materials indicated
for final unit of work including same base construction, special features for expansion joints, and contiguous
work as indicated.
1. Locate mockups on-site in the location and of the size indicated or, if not indicated, as directed by
Landscape Architect.
2. Notify Landscape Architect one week in advance of the dates and times when mockups will be
constructed.
3. Demonstrate the proposed range of aesthetic effects and workmanship.
4. Obtain Landscape Architects acceptance of mockups before start of final unit of Work.
5. Retain and maintain mockups during construction in an undisturbed condition as a standard for
judging the completed Work.
a. When directed, demolish and removed mockups from project site.

b. Accepted mockups in an undisturbed condition at the time of Substantial Completion may


become part of the completed Work.
1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Protect unit pavers and aggregate during storage and constructio against soilage or contamination from
earth and other materials.
1. Wrap pavers in plastic or use other packaging materials that willl prevent rust marks from street
strapping.
B. Protect grout and mortar materials from deterioration by moisture and temperature. Store in a dry location or
in waterproof containers. Keep conatiners tightly closed.
2.0 PRODUCTS
Refer to Section 01020 Summary of Materials and Finishes.
3.0 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Examine surfaces indicated to receive paving, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for
installation tolerances and other conditions affectiong performance of unit pavers. Do not proceed with
installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.02 PREPARATION
A. Vacuum clean concrete substrates to remove dirt, dust, debris, and loose particles.
B. Remove substances from concrete substrates that could impair mortar bond, including curing and sealing
compounds, form oil, and laitance.
C. Proof-roll prepared subgrade surface to check for unstable areas and areas requiring additional
compaction. Do not proceed with installation of unit pavers until deficient subgrades have been corrected
and are ready to receive subbase for unit pavers.

3.03 INSTALLATION, GENERAL


A. Do not use unit pavers with chips, cracks, voids, discolorations, and other deffects that might be visible or
cause staining in finished work.
B. Mix pavers from several pallets or cubes as they are placed to produce uniform blend of colors and textures.
C. Cut unit pavers with motor-driven masonry saw eqipment to provide clean, sharp, unchipped edges. Cut
units to provide patterns indicated and to fit adjoining work neatly.
Use full units without cutting where possible. Hammer cutting is not acceptable.
1. For concrete pavers, a block splitter may be used.
D. Joint Pattern: As indicated.

E. Tolerances: do not exceed 1/32-inch (0.8-mm) unit-to-unit offset from flush (lippage) nor 1/8 inch in 10 feet
(3 mm in 3 m) from level, or indicated slope, for finished surface of paving.
F. Provide edge restraints as indicated. Install edges restaints prior to placing unit pavers.
1. Install job-built concrete edge restraints to comply with requirements of Division 3 Section Cast-in-Place
Concrete.
2. Where pavers set in mortar bed are indicated as edge restraints for paver set in aggragate setting bed,
install pavers set in mortar first. Cut of mortar setting bed at a steel angle so that it will interfere with
aggragate setting bed.
3.04 AGGREGATE SETTING-BED PAVER APPLICATIONS
A. Compact soil subgrade uniformly to at least 95 percent of ASTM D 1557 laboratory density.
B. Place aggregate base and subbase in thickness indicated. Compact by tamping with plate vibrator and
screed to depth require to allow setting of pavers.
C. Place graded aggregate for subbase and base over compacted subgrade. Provide compacted thickness of
base and subbase indicated. Compact subbase and base to 100 percent of ASTM D 1557 maximum
laboratory density.
D. Place sand for leveling course and screed to thickness of 1 to 1-1/2 inches (25 to 38 mm), taking care that
moisture content remains constant and density is loose and constant until pavers are set and compacted.
E. Treat leving base with soil sterilizer to prohibit growth of grass and weeds.
F. Set pavers with a minimum width of 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) and a maximum of 1/8 inch (3 mm), being careful
not to disturb levelin base. If pavers have space bars, place pavers hand tight against space bars. Use
string lines to keep straight lines. Fill gaps between units that exceed 3/8 inch (10mm) with pieces cut to fit
from full-size unit pavers.
G. Vibrate pavers into leveling course with low-amplitude vibrator capable of a 3500- to 5000-lbf (16- to 22- kN)
compaction force at 80 to 90 Hz. Perform atleast 3 passes across paving with vibrator. Vibrator under the
following conditions:
1. After edge pavers are installed and there is a completed surface or before surface is expose to rain.
2. Before ending each days work, fully compact installed concrete pavers within 36 inches (900 mm) of the
laying face. Cover the open layers with nonstaining plastic sheets overlapped 48 inches (1200 mm) on each
side of the laying face to protect it from rain.
H. Spread dry sand and fill joints immediately after vibrating pavers into leveling course. Vibrate pavers and
add sand until joints are completely filled, then remove excess sand. Leave a slight surplus of sand on the
surface for joint filling.
I. Do not allow traffic on installed pavers until sand has been vibrated into joints.
J. Repeat joint-filling process 30 days later.
3.05 REPAIR, POINTING, CLEANING, AND PROTECTION
A. Remove and replace unit pavers that are loose, chipped, broken, strained, or otherwise damage or if units
do not match adjoining units as intended. Provide new units to match adjoining units and install in same
manner as original units, with same joints treatment to eliminate evidence of replacement.
B. Pointing: during tooling of joints, enlarge voids or holes and completely fill with mortar or grout. Point-up
joints at sealant joints to provide a neat, uniform appearance, properly prepared for application of sealant.
C. Cleaning: Remove excess grout from exposed paver surfaces; wash and scrub clean.
1. Remove protective coating as recommended by protective coating manufacturer and acceptable to brick
and grout manufacturer. Trap and remove coating to prvent it from clagging drains.
D. Provide final Protection and maintain conditions in a manner acceptable to nstaller that unit paver work is
without damage or deterioration at the time of Substantial Completion.

1.02 PROTECTION
Protect all materials from dirt and all injuries substances that may affect the strength of concrete and cement.
2.00 PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
See Section 01020 Summary of materials and Finishes.
3.00 EXECUTION
3.01 SUBGRADE PREPARATION
A. Prior to commenting the preparation of the subgrade complete all installations of a subgrade complete all
installations of sub-drainage lines, manholes and catch basins and all other utilities underneath the
subgrade, including their fully compacted backfill.
B. Compact all materials immediately below subgrade level on embankment to a depth of 150 mm (6), or to
such greater depth as may be specified, in accordance to the requirements of AASHTO T-180 Method D.
3.02 BASE COURSE
A. Placing and Spreading of Base Course: The subbase and/or base material shall be placed in loose layers
not exceeding 200 mm. (8), moisture conditiones as necessary and compacted to a minimum of 90% of its
maximum dry density.
B. Rolling Base Course:
1. Immediately following spreading, compact materials to the full by rolling with a 3 wheeled or
tandem roller weighting at least 8 ton or with a multiple wheeled rubber tired roller loaded as
directed to give satisfactory compaction.
2. Progress rolling gradually from the sides to center, parallel with the centerline of the road and it
shall continue until compaction is satisfactory to the Engineer.
3. After rolling all the base course materials blade or smoothen the surface. Blade and roll alternately
as required or directed to maintain a smooth even surface.
4. Machine tamp base course materials along curbs, headers or walls and at all all places not
accessible to the rollers.
5. Sprinkler all layers of base course materials with water during rolling, tamping and blading.
C. Spreading of Choker Aggregate:
1. After final rolling of base course aggregates evenly spread choker aggregates over the surface
until the voids are filled within approximately 1 cm. of the surface, and if possible, the surface shall
be boomed with push brooms or diagonal brooms. Continue to spread, broom and roll until a
smooth surface is obtained.
3.03 CONCRETE PAVEMENT
A. See DIVISION 3 CONCRETE for concrete proportions and consistency, from works, methods of placing
concrete, compaction, finishing and curing concrete.

With the use of a power driven saw, cut a groove in the pavement, at locations shown in the Plans,
to a minimum depth of 50 mm. and a maximum with of 5 mm. within 24 hours after the concrete
was placed.
2. TRANSEVERSE EXPANSION JOINTS
Use pre-moulded expansion joint fillers for transverse expansion joints as detailed and shown in
the Plans.
C. SURFACE FINISHING
Finish the pavement surface to the required roughness by passing over the concrete a drag of one or two
burlap cloths or by other approved means.
D. CURING AND PROTECTION
Immediately after finishing operations, exposed concrete surfaces shall be cured by one of the following
methods as the Contractor may elect.
1. Mat Method. The entire exposed surface shall be covered with two or more layers of burlap. Mats
shall overlap each other at least 6 inches. The mat shall be thoroughly wetted with water prior to
placing on concrete with concrete for not less than 7 days.
2. Impervious Sheeting Method. The entire exposed surface shall be wetted with a fine spray of
water and then covered with impervious sheeting material. Sheets shall be laid directly on the
concrete surfaced with the light-colored side up and overlapped 300 mm when a continuous sheet
is not used. The curing medium shall not be less than 450 mm wider than the concrete surface to
be cured, and shall be securely weighted down by heavy wood planks, or by placing a bank of
moist earth along edges, and laps in the sheets. Sheets shall be satisfactory repaired or replaced
if torn or otherwise damaged. The curing medium shall remainon the concrete surface to be cured
for not less than 7 days.
3. Membrane-Curing Method: The entire exposed surface shall be covered with a membrane-forming
curing compound. Where type 1 curinhg compound is used, the concrete surface shall be shaded
from the direct rays of the sun for a period of three daysimmediately after spraying. Curing
compound shall be applied two coats by handoperated pressure sparyers at a coverage of
approximately at right angels to the direction of application of the first coat. The compound shall
form a uniform, continuous, coherent film that will not check, crack, or peel and shall be free from
pinholes or other imperfections. Apply an additional coat to all sufaces showing discontinuity,
pinholes or other defects. Concrete surfaces that subjected to heavy rainfall within 3 hours after
curing compound has been applied shall be resprayed by the above method and at the above
coverageat no additional cost to the Owner. Expansion-joint openings shall be sealed athe top by
inserting moistened paper or fiber rope or covering with strips of water proof paper priorto
application of the curing compound, in manner to prevent the curing compound entering the joint.

3.02 BACKFILLING
A. Pipe lines shall be tested by Contractor and by Owners representative prior to backfilling.
B. Clean and free all excavation from trash and debris.
C. Backfill shall contain same material excavated or other approved materials. Free backfill of debris and big
stones. Place backfill in horizontal layers not exceeding 300 mm (12) or as indicated or directed.
D. Carefully place and tamp backfill under and around pipr barrel in such manner so as not to disturb pipe line
and joints.
E. Properly moistened each backfill layer and compact by hand or machine to an optimum density that will
present excessive setlement and shrinkage.

12. 1.03 REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATORY AGENCIES
A. General: Perform the works in accordance with all the applicable laws, codes and regulations required by
authorities having jurisdiction over such works, and provide for all inspections and permits required by
national and local authorities in furnishing, transporting and installing plant materials.
B. Certificate of inspection required by laww for transportation shall accompany invoice for each shipment of
plants. File copies of certificate with Landscape Architect after acceptance of material. Inspection by national
or local authorities at place of growth does not preclude rejection of plants at Project site.
13. 1.04 COORDINATION
A. General: Coordinate and cooperate with others to enable the works to proceed as rapidly and efficient as
possible.
14. 1.05 INPSECTION OF PROJECT SITE
A. General: Visit project site and inpsect conditions as they exist prior to submitting bid.
15. 1.06 INTENT OF DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS
A. General: it is the intent of the Drawings and Specifications that the Contractor provide planting with plants
invigorous growth, ready for Landscape Architects use. Any itemsspecifically not shown on the Drawings or
called for the specifications, but normally required to complete the Work are to be considered as part of the
Work.

17. 1.07 SUBMITTALS
A. Packaged Materials: Deliver packaged materials in conatiners showing weight, analysis, and name of
manufacturer. Protect materials from deterioration during delivery and while stored at site.
B. Sod: Harvest, deliver, store, and handle sod according to the requirements of the American Sod Producers
Associations (ASPA) Specifications for Turfgrass Sod Materials and Transplanting/Installing.
C. Trees, Palms, ands Shrubs: Deliver freshly dug trees, palms and shrubs. Do not prune before delivery,
except as approved by Landscape Architect Protect bark, branches and root systems from sun scald,
drying, sweating, whipping, and other handling and tying damage. Do not bend or bind-ties trees or shrubs
in such a manner as to destroy natural shape. Provide protective covering during delivery. Do not drop trees
and shrubs during delivery.
1. Immediately after digging bare-root stock, pack root system in wet straw, hay, or other suitable
material to keep root system moist until planting.
D. Handle balled nad burlapped stock by the root ball.
E. Deliver trees, shrubd, ground covers, and plants after preparations for planting have been completed and
install immediately, if planting is delayed more than 6 hours after delivery, set planting materials in shade,
protect from weather and mechanical damage, and keep roots moist.
1. Heel-in-bare-root stock. Soak root fro 2 hours if dried out.

2. Set balled stock on ground and cover ball with soil, peat moss, sawdust, or other acceptable
material.
3. Do not remove container-grown dtock from containers before time of planting.
4. Water root system of trees and shrubs stored on site with a fine-mist spray. Water as often as
necessary to maintain root systems in a moist condition.
F. Root Control Devices: Deliver, store and handle root control devices according to manufacturers
requirements. Place inside treehole or immediately near the treehole.
18. 1.11 QUALITY ASSURNCE
A. Installer Qualifications: Engage an experienced Installer who has completed landscaping work similar in
material, design, and extent to the indicated for this Project and with a record successful landscape
establishment.
1. Installers Field Supervision: Require Installer to maintain an experienced full-time supervisor on
the Project site during times that landscaping is in progress.
B. Provide quality, size, genus, spacies, and variety of trees and shrubs indicated, complying with applicable
requirements of ANSI Z60.1 American Standard for Nursery Stock.
C. Topsoil Analysis: Furnish a soil analysis made by a qualified independent soil-testing agency stating
percentages of organic matter, inorganic matter (silt, clay, and sand), deleterious material, pH, and mineral
and plant-nutrient content of topsoil.
1. Report suitability of topsoil for growth of apllicable planting material. State recommended
quantities of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash nutrients and any limestone, alumnum sulfate, or
other soil amendments to be added to produce a satisfactory topsoil.
D. Measurements: Measure trees and shrubs according to ANSI Z60.1 with branches and trunks or canes in
their normal position. Do not prune to obtain required sizes. Take caliper measurements 6 inches (150 mm)
above ground for trees up to 4-inch (100-mm) caliper size, and 12 inches (300 mm) above ground for larger
sizes. Measure main body of tree or shrub for height and spred; do not measure branches or roots tip-to-tip.
E. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site to comply with requirements of Division 1
Section Project Meetings.
19. 1.12 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Utilities: Determine location of above grade and underground utilities and perform work in a manner which
will avoid damage. Hand excavate, as required. Mainatain grade stakes until removal is mutually agreed
upon by parties concerned.
B. Excavation: When conditions detrimental to plant groeth are encounterde, such as rubble fill, adverse
drinage conditions, or obstructions, notify Landscape Architect before planting.
20. 1.13 INSPECTIONS
A. General: Make written requests for inspection after planting operations have been completed. Such as
inspection is for the purpose of establishing the Maintenance Period.
21. 1.14 WARRANTIES
A. General Warranty: The special warranty specified in this article shall not deprive the Owner of other rights
the Owner may have under other provisions of the Contract Documents and shall be in addition to and run
concurrent with, other warranties made by the Contractor under requirements of the Contract Documents.
B. Warranty After Final Acceptance: The Contractor shall warrant the following living planting materials for a
period of twelve (12) months after date of Final Acceptance, against defects including death and
unsatisfactory growth, except defects resulting from lack of adequate maintenance, neglect, or abuse by

Owner, abnormal weather condition unusual for warranty period, or incidents that are beyond Contractors
control.

C. Any delay in completion of planting operations which extends the planting into more than one (1) planting
season shall extend the Warranty Perion correspondingly..
D. Remove and replace, without cost to the Owner and as soon as weather condition permit, all dead plants
and all plants not in a vigorous, thriving conditions, as determined by the Landscape Architects and at the
end of Warranty Periods. Plants shall be free of dead or dying branches and branch tips, and shall bear
foliage of a normal density, size and color. Replacements shall close match adjacent specimens of the same
species and shall be subject to all requirements of this Specifications.
E. A limit of one replacement of each plant material will be required, except for losses or replacements due to
failure to comply with the requirements.
22. 1.15 MAINTENCE AFTER INSTALLATION
A. General: Begin maintenace after each plant and each portion of groundcover is installed and continue until
Final Acceptance.
B. Maintain trees, pals, and shrubs by pruning, cultivating, watering, weeding, fertilizing, restauring planting
saucers, tightening and repairing stakes and guy supports, and resetting to proper grades or vertical
position, as required to establish healthy, viable plantings. Spray as required to keep trees and shrubs free
of insects and disease. Restore or replace damage tree wrappings. Maintain trees and shrubs for the
following period:
1. Maintenance Period: 12 months following Substantial Completion.
C. Maintain ground cover by watering, weeding, fertilizing, and other operations as required to establish
healthy, viable plantings for the following periods:
1. Maintenance Period: 12 months following Substantial Completion.
D. Begin maintenance of lawns immediately after each area is planted and continue until acceptable lawns is
established, but for not less than the following periods:
1. Sodded Lawns: 12 monts after date of Substantial Completion.
2. Sprigged Lawns: 12 monts after date of Substantial Completion.
E. Maintain and establish lawns by waterinmg, firtilizing, weeding, mowing, trimmind, replanting, and other
operations. Roll, regrade and replant bare or eroded areas and remulch to produce a uniformly smooth
lawn.
F. Watering: provide and maintain temporary piping, hoses, and lawn watering-equipment to convey water
from sources and to keep lawns uniformly moist to a depth of 4 inches (100 mm).
1. Water lawn at a minimum rate of 1 inch (25 mm) per week.
G. Mow lawns as soon as there is enough top growth to cut with mower set as specific height for principal
species planted. Repeat moving as required to maintain specified height without cutting more than 40
percent of the grass height. Remove no more than 40 percent of grass-leaf growth in initial or subsequent
mowing until grass blades bend over and become method. Do not mow when grass is wet.
H. Postfertilization: Apply fertilizer to lawn after first mowing and when grass is dry.
1. Use fertilizer that will provide actual nitrogen of at least 1 lb per 1000 sq. ft (0.5 kg per 100 sq.m) of
lawn areas.
23. 1.16 FINAL ACCEPTANCE
A. General: The work of this Section will bw accepted by the Owner upon satisfactory completion of all works,
including maintenance, but exclusive of replacement of plant materials under the Warranty Period. Work

requiring corrective action or replacemnt in the judgement of Landscape Architect shall be performed within
ten (10) calendar days after the inspection of Final Acceptance.
B. Perform corrective Work and materials replacement accordance with the Contract Documents. Continue
maintenance of all landscape areas untill such time as all corrective measures have been completed or
accepted. A twelve (12) month Maintenace Period shall be commence for all replacement plants.
C. After corrective Work is completed, as inspection for Final Acceptance as outlined above shall again be
requested.
D. Upon Final Acceptance, the Owner will assume responsibility of maintenace of Work.
24. 2.00 PRODUCTS
25. 2.01 GENERAL
A.

Plants shall be nursery grown in accordance with good horticulutural practices under climatic conditions
similar to those of the project for at least one (1) year uless specifically otherwised authorized by the
Landscape Architect in writing. Unless specifically noted otherwise, all plants shall be exceptionally heavy,
symmetrical, tightly knit so trained or favored in development and appearances as to be superior in form,
number of branches, compactness and symmetry.
B. Plants shall be sound, healthy and vigorous, well-branched and densely foliated when in leaf.
26. 2.02 TREE AND SHRUB MATERIAL
A. General: Furnish nursery-grown trees and shrubs conforming to ANSI Z60.1, with healthy root systems
developed by transplanting or root pruning. Provide well-shaped, fully-branched, healthy, vigorous stock free
of disease, insects, eggs, larvae, and defects such as knots, sun scald, injuries, abrasions, and
disfifurement.
B. Grade: Provide trees and shrubs of sizes and grades as indicated in Consolidated Plant List. Trees and
shrubs of a larger size may be used if acceptable to Landscape Architect, with proportionate in increase in
size of roots and balls.
C. Label at least 1 tree and 1 shrub of each variety and caliper using securely attached Owner-prescribed
waterproof tag bearing legible designation of botanical and common name, and approval signatures of
Owner and Landscape Architect.
27.
28. 2.03 SHADE AND FLOWERING TREES
A. Shade Trees: Single-stem tree with straight tunk, well-balance crown, and intact leader, of height and caliper
indicated, conforming to ANSI Z60.1 for type of trees required.
1. Branching Height: 1/3 to of tree height.
B. Small Trees: Small upright or spreading type, branded or pruned naturally according to species and type,
and with relationship of caliper, height, and branching reccommended by ANSI Z60.1 and stem forms as
follows:
1. Form: Multistem, clump, with 2 or more main stems.
C. Provide balled and burlapped trees except where-bare root trees are indicated.
1. Container-grown trees will be acceptible in lieu of balled an dburlapped trees subject to meering
ANSI Z60.1 limitations for container stock.
29. 2.04 DECIDUOUS SHRUBS
A. Form and Size: Deciduous shrubs with not less than minimumm number of canes required by and
measured according to ANSI Z60.1 for type, shape, and height of shrub.
B. Provide balled and burlapped deciduous shrubs except where bare-root deciduous shrubs are indicated.

1. Conatiner-grown deciduous shrubs will be acceptable in lieu of balled and burlapped deciduous
shrubs subject to meeting ANSI Z60.1 limitation for container stock.
30. 2.05 GROUND COVERS
A. Provide ground covers established and well rooted in removable containers or integral peat pots and with
not less than the minimum number and length of runners required by ANSI Z60.1 for the pot size indicated.
31. 2.06 GRASS MATERIALS
A. Sod: Certified turfgrass sod complying with ASPA specifications for machine-cut thickness, size, strength,
moisture content, and mowed height, and free of weeds and udesirable native grasses. Provide viable sod
of uniform density, color, and texture of the following turfgrass species. Strongly rooted, and capable of
vigorous growth and dvelopment when planted.
1. Species: Cynodon Dactylon (Tifton/Bermuda Grass).
B. Sod Sprigs: Healthy living stems, rhizomes, or stolonswith a minimum of 2 nodes and any attached roots
free of soil, of the following turgrass species:
1. Species: Paspalum conjugatum (Carabao Grass)
32. 2.07 TOPSOIL
A. Topsoil: ASTM D 5268, pH range of 5.5 to 7, 4 percent organic material minimum, free of stones 1 inch (25
mm) or larger in any dimension, and other extraneous materials harmful to plant growth.
1. On-site Topsoil: Reused surface soil stockpiled on the site. Verify suitability of surface soil to
produce topsoil meeting requirements and amend when necessary. Supplemet with imported
topsoil when quantities are insuficient. Clean topsoil of roots, plants, sods, stones, clay lumps, and
other extraneous materials harmful to plant growth.
2. Imported Topsoil: Import topsoil from off-site sources. Obtain subsoil from naturally
3. Well-drained sites where topsoils occur at least 4 inches (100 mm) deep; do not obtain from bogs
or marshes.
4. Amended Topsoil: Amend existing surface soil to produce topsoil. Supplement with imported topsoil
when required.
33.
34. 2.08 SOIL AMENDMENTS
A. Manure: Well-rotted, unleached stable or cattle manure containing not more than 25 percent by volume
straw, sawdust, or other bedding materials; free of toxic substances, stones, sticks, soil, weed seed, and
material harmful to plant growth. Mix at the rate of 1 part manure per 1 part soil.
35. 2.09 FERTILIZER
A. Commercial Fertilizer: Commercial-grade complete fertilizer of neutral character, consisting of fast- and
slow-release nitrogen, 50 percent derived from natural organic souces of urea-form, phosphorous, and
potassium in the following composition:
1. Composition: 1 lb per 1000 sq. ft. (0.5 kg per 100 sq. m) lawn area of actual nitogen, 4 percent
phosphorous, and 2 percent potassium, by weight.
36. 2.10 MULCHES
A. Organic Mulch: Organic mulch, free from deleterious materials and suitable as a top dressing of trees and
shrubs, consisting of one of the following:

1. Type: Wood and bark chips.


37. 2.11 STAKES AND GUYS
A. Upright and Guy Stakes: Rough-sawn, sound, new harwood, or pressure-preservative-treated softwood,
free of knots, holes, cross grain, and other defects, 2 by 2 inches (50 by 50 mm) by length indicated, pointed
at one end.
B. Guy and Tire Wire: ASTM A 641 (ASTM A 641M), Class 1, galvanized-iron wire, 2-strand, twisted, 0.106 inch
(2.7 mm) in diameter.
C. Guy Cable: 5-strand, 3/16-inch (4.8 mm) diameter, galvanized-steel cable, with zinc-coated turn buckles, 3inch- (75-mm-) long minimum, with two 3/8-inch- (10-mm-) galvanized eyebolts.
D. Hose Chafing Guard: Reinforce rubber or plastic hose at least 1/2 inch (13 mm) in diameter, black, cut to
lengths required to protect tree trunks from damage.
38. 2.12 ROOT CONTROL DEVICES
A. Rigid HDPE sheets rolled to cylinder, 1.20m height x 2.0m diameter, where indicated.
39. 2.13 LANDSCAPE EDGINGS
A. Steel Edging: ASTM A 569 (ASTM A 569M), rolled edge, standard steel edging, fabricated in sections wityh
loops stamped from or welded to face of sections approximately 30 inches (760 mm) apart to received
stakes.
1. Edging Size: 3/16 inch (4.8 mm) wide by 4 inches (102 mm) deep.
2. Stakes: Tapered steel, 15 inches (381 mm) long.
3. Acessories: Standard tapered ends, corners, and splicers as required.
4. Finish: Standard paint finish; color selected by Landscape Architect.
40. 2.14 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS
A. Antidesiccant: Water-insoluble emulsion, permeable moisture retarder, film forming, for trees and shrubs.
Deliver in original, sealed, and fully labeled containers and mix according to manufacturers instructions.
B. Trunk-Rap Tape: Two layers of crinkled paper cemented together with bituminous material, 4 inches (102
mm) wide minimum, with stretch factor of 33 percent.

42. 3.00 EXECUTION
43. 3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Examine areas to receive landscaping for compliance with requirementsand for conditions affecting
performance of work of this Section. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have
been corrected.
44. 3.02 PREPARATION
A. Lay out individual tree and shrub locations and areas for multiple plantings. Stake locations, outline areas,
and secure Landscape Architects acceptance before the start of planting work. Make minor adjustments as
maybe required.
B. Lay out DeepRoot Barriers at indicated tree locations, in a manner so as to facilitate the placing of the root
control device at its precise location.
45. 3.03 PLANTING SOIL PREPARATION

A. Before mixing, clean topsoil of roots, plants, sods, stones, clay lumps, and other extraneous materials
harmful to plant growth.
B. Mix soil amendments and fertilizers with topsoil at rates indicated. Delay mixing fertilizer if planting does not
follow placing of planting soil within a few days.
C. For tree pit or trench backfill, mix planting soil before backfilling and stockpile at site.
D. For planting beds and lawns, mix planting soil either prior to planting or apply on surface of topsoil and mix
thorougly before planting.
1. Apply phosphoric acid fertilizer, other than that constituting a portion of complete fertilizers, directly
to subgrade before applying planting soil and tilling.
46. 3.04 LAWN PLANTING PREPARATION
A. Limit subgrade preparation to areas that will be planted in the immediate future.
B. Loosen subgrade to a minimum depth of 4 inches (100 mm). Remove stones larger than 1-1/2 inches (38
mm) in any dimension and sticks, roots, rubbish, and other extraneous materials.
C. Spread planting soil mixture to depth required to meet thickness, grades, and elevations shown, after light
rolling and natural settlement.
1. Place approximately the thickness of planting soil mixture required. Work into top of loosened
subgrade to create a transition layer and then place remainder of planting soil mixture.
2. Allow for sod thickness in areas to be sodded.
D. Preparation of Unchange Grades: Where lawns are to be planted in areas unaltered or undisturbed by
excavating, grading, or surface soil stripping operations, prepare soilas follows:
1. Remove and dispose of existing grass, vegetation, and turf. Do not turn over into soil being
prepared for lawns.
2. Till surface soil to a depth of atleast 6 inches (150 mm). Apply required soil amendments and initial
fertilizers and mix thoroughly in to top 4 inches (100 mm) of soil. Trim high areas and fill in
depressions. Till soil to a homogenous mixture of fine texture.
3. Clean surface soil of roots, plants, sods, stones, clay lumps, and other extraneous materials
harmful to plant growth.
4. Remove waste material, including grass, vegetation, and turf, and legally dispose of it off the
Owners property.
E. Grade lawn and grass area to a smooth, even surface with a loose, uniformly fine texture. Roll and rake,
remove ridges, and fill depressions to meet finish grades. Limit fine grading to areas that can be planted in
the immediate future. Remove trash, debris, stones larger than 1-1/2 inches (38 mm) in any dimension, and
other objects that may interfere with planting or maintenance operations.
F. Moisten prepared lawn areas before planting when soil is dry. Water thoroughly and allow surface to dry
before planting. Do not create muddy soil.
G. Restore prepared areas if eroded or otherwise disturbed after fine grading and before planting.
47. 3.05 GROUND COVER BED PREPARATION
A. Loosen subgrade of planting bed areas to a minimum depth of 6 inches (150 mm). remove stones larger
than 1-1/2 inches (38 mm) in any dimension and sticks, roots, rubbish, and other extraneous materials.
B. Spread planting soil mixture to depth required to meet thickness, grades, and elevations shown, after light
rolling and natural settlement. Place approximately 1/2 the thickness of planting soil mixture required. Work
into top of loosened subgrade to create a transition layer and then place remainder of planting soil mixture.
48. 3.06 EXCAVATION FOR TREES AND SHRUBS
A. Root Control Device: Excavate circular pit to accept vertically 1.00 m diameter x 1.00 m length Reinforced
Concrete Culvert, with bottom of excavation slightly raised at center to assist darinage. Loosen hard subsoil
in bottom of excavation.

B. Pits and Trenches: Excavate with vertical siides and with bottom of excavation slightly raised at the center
to assist drainage. Lay drainage fill and filter blanket on top of compacted subgrade.
1. Balled and Burlapped Trees and Shrubs. Excavate approximately 1-1/2 times as wide as ball
diameter and equal to ball depth, plus the following setting layer depth:
a. Setting Layer: Allow 12 inches (300 mm) of planting soil.
2. Container-Grown Trees and Shrubs: excavation to container width and depth, plus the following
setting-layer depth:
a. Setting Layer: Allow 6 inckes (150 mm) of planting soil.
C. Dispose of subsoil removed from landscape excavations. Do not mix with planting soil or use as backfill.
D. Obstructions: Notify Landscape Architect if unexpected rock or obstructions detrimental to trees or shrubs
are encountered at excavations.
1. Hardpan Layer: Drill 6-inch- (150-mm-) diameter hole into free-draining strata or to a depth of 10
feet (3 m), which ever is less, and backfill with free-draining material.
E. Drainage: Notify Landscape Architect if subsoil conditions eveidence unexpected water seepage or
retention in tree or shrub pits.
F. Fill excavations with water and allow to percolate out, before placing setting layer and positioning trees and
shrubs.
49. 3.07 PLANTING TREES AND SHRUBS
A. Set balled and burlapped stock plumb and in centerof pit or trench with top of ball raised above adjacent
finish grades as indicated.
1. Place stock on setting layer of compacted planting soil.
2. Remove burlap and wire baskets from tops of balls and partially from sides, but do not remove
from under balls. Remove pallets, if any, before setting. Do not use planting stock if ball is cracked
or broken before or during planting operation.
3. Place backfill around ball in layers, tamping to settle backfill and elimate voids and air pockets.
When pit is approximately 1/2 backfilled, water thoroughly before placing reamiander of backfill.
Repeat water until no more is absorbed. Water again after placing and tamping final layer of
backfill.
B. Set container-grown stock plumband in center of pit or trench with top of ball raised above adjacent finish
grades as indicated.
1. Carefully remove containers so as not to damage root balls.
2. Place stock on setting layer of compacted planting soil.
3. Place backfill around ball in layers, tamping to settle backfill and eliminate voids and air pockets.
When pit is approximately 1/ 2 backfilled, water thoroughly before placing remainder of backfill.
Repeat watering until no more is absorbed. Water again after placing and tamping final layer of
backfill.
C. Set bare-root stock on cushion of planting soil. Spread roots without tangling and turning toward surface,
and carefully work backfill around roots by hand. Puddle with water until backfill layers are completely
saturated. Plumd before backfilling, and maintain plumd while working backfill around roots and placing
layers above roots. Remove injured roots by cutting clearly; do not break.
1. Set collar 1 inch (25 mm) below adjacent finish grades, unless otherwise indicated.
D. Dish and tamp top of backfill to form 3-inch- (75-mm-) high mound around the rim of the pit. Do not cover
top of root ball with backfill.
E. Wrap trees of 2-inch (50-mm) caliper and larger with trunk-wrap tape. Start at base of trunk and spiral cover
trunk to height of first branches. Overlap wrap, exposing half the width, and securely attach without causing
girding. Inspect tree trunks for injury, improper pruning, and insect infestation and take corrective measures
required before wrapping.
50. 3.08 TREE AND SHRUB PRUNING

A. Prune, thin, and shape trees and shrubs according to standard horticultural practice. Prune trees to ratain
required heigth and spread. Unless otherwise directed by Landscape Architect, do not cut trees leaders,
remove only injured or dead branches from flowering trees. Prune shrubs to retain natural character. Shrub
sizes indicated are size after pruning.
51. 3.09 TREE AND SHRUB GUYING AND STAKING
A. Upright Staking and Tying: Stake trees of 2-through 5-inch (50-through 125-mm) caliper. Stake trees of less
than 2-inch (50-mm) caliper only as required to prevent wind tip-out. Use a minimum of 2 stakes of length
required to penetrate at least 18 inches (450 mm) below bottom of backfilled excavation and to extend at 72
inches (1800 mm) above grade. Set vertical stakes and space to avoid penetrating balls or root masses.
Support trees with 2 strands of tie wire encased in hose sections at contact points with tree tunk. Allow
enough slack to avoid rigid restraint of tree.
B. Guying and Staking: Guy and stake trees exceeding 14 feet (4.2 m) and more than 3-inch (75-mm) caliper
unless other wise indicated. Securely attach no fewer than t3 guys to stakes 30 inches (760 mm) long,
driven to grade. Attach flags to each guy wire, 30 inches (760 mm) above finish grade.
52. 3.10 PLANTING GROUND COVER AND PLANTS
A. Space ground cover and plants as indicated.
B. Dig holes large enough to allow spreading of roots, and backfill with planting soil. Work soil around roots to
eliminate air pockets and leave a slight sucer indentation around plants to hold water. Water thoroughly
after planting, taking care not to cover plant crowns with wet soil.
53. 3.11 MULCHING
A. Mulch backfilled surfaces of pits, trenches, planted areas, and other areas indicated.
B. Organic Mulch: Apply the following average thickness of organic mulch and finish level with adjacent finish
grades. Do not place mulch against trunks or stems.
1. Thickness: 2 inches (50 mm)
54. 3.12 SOODING NEW LAWNS
A. Lay sodwithing 24 hours of stripping.
B. Lay sod to form a solid mass with tightly fitted joints. Butt ends and sides of sod; do not stretch or overlap.
Stagger sod strips or pads to offset joints in adjacent courses. Avoid damage to subgrade or sod during
installation. Tamp and roll lightly to ensure contact with subgrade, eliminate air pockets, and form a smooth
surface. Work sifted soil or fine sand into minor cracks between pieces of sod, remove excess to avoid
smothering sod and adjacent grass.
1. Lay sod across angle and slopes exceeding 1:3.
2. Anchor sod on slopes exceeding 1:6 with wood pegs spaced as recommended by sod
manufacturer but not less than 2 anchors per osod strip to prevent slippage.
C. Saturate sod with fine water spray within 2 hours of planting. During first week, water daily or more
frequently as necessary to maintain moist soil to a minimum depth of 1-1/2 inches (38 mm) below the sod.
55. 3.13 SPRIG PLANTING NEW LAWNS
A. Plant freshly shredded sod sprigs infurrows approximately 3 inches (75 mm) deep. Place individual sprigs
with roots and portions of stem in moistened soil and fil furrows without covering growing tips. Lightly roll
and firm soil around sprigs after planting.
B. Broadcast sprigs uniformly over prepared surface and mechanically force sprigs approximately 2 inches (50
mm) into moistened soil. Lightly roll and firm soil around sprigs after planting.
1. Sprig Spacing: 6 inches (150 mm) apart in both directions.

C. Water sprigs immediately after planting and keep moist by frequent watering until well rooted.
56. 3.14 CLEANUP AND PROTECTION
A. During landscapping, keep pavements clean and work area in an orderly condition.
B. Protect landscaping from damage due to landscape operations, operations by other contractors and trades,
and trespassers. Maintain protection during installation and maintenace periods. Treat, repair, or replace
damaged landscape work as directed.
57. 3.15 DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS AND WASTE MATERIALS
A. Disposal: Remove surplus soil and waste material, including excess subsoil, unsuitable soil, trash, and
debris, as described in Section Site Clearing.
