RATIONALE
:
Global community and among every nation needs a universal language to
foster partnership and cooperation. The ASEAN, for example is composed of ten
nations with different languages, aims to be one community, similar to the
initiatives of the European Community. In 2015, or next year, the ASEAN nations
will lift restrictions on trade and manpower \skills movement. This means that any
trader in the country may sell their product to any nation within the ASEAN, tariff
free. Likewise, skilled people may work to any country who gives the best offer for
the best talent or skills available. The unifying language among these countries will
be the English language.
It is in this premise that this exercise is conceived. It would be beneficial for
all participating students to be aware of the global landscape. The opportunity for
English teachers in the ASEAN countries is ever been this much and huge. That is
just the ASEAN. The ASEAN + 3, is much bigger. It includes China, Korea, and Japan;
they need to learn the English language and these comprises more than 1 billion
students on top of the 600 million within the ASEAN. Imagine almost 2 billion
people fostering partnerships, friendships, and different levels \ degrees of
cooperation, united by the English language.
VII.
