small house. A man and his wife is having their lunch while
the narrator enters the stage animatedly.)
N: Once upon a time, there was a brother and sister called Hansel and
Gretel. (the narrator looks at Hansel and Gretel? They lived with their
father and stepmother in a tiny cottage at the edge of a huge forest. Their
father was a woodcutter and he was very, very poor. (the narrator glances
at the spouse)
N: One day, after lunch the woodcutter said to his wife
W: We have no money left and I cant afford to buy any food (sighs
deeply)
S: Take the children into the forest and leave them there. Then, we will
have two less mouths to feed (mischievously smiling).
W: How could you do that to them? They are our children! (trying to hide
his anger)
S: But honey, the winter is coming and we dont have enough food to feed
all four of us. They are young. They are stronger than us. We are old and
we wont last as long as them. Unlike them, we could die first and then
what would happen to them
W: I, I never thought of that. I suppose its the best thing to do. (Feeling
hopeless and helpless)
(Hansel and Gretel accidentally hear their conversation. Gretel is scared.)
Hansel: Shhhdont worry. Calm down. Just do as I say alright?
(Gretel nods slowly.)

SCENE 2
(Hansel and Gretel exit the house quietly. Hansel collects a few
pebbles and sings to assure Gretel that they will be fine. Gretel
gradually becomes happy again.)
Song 1:
Twenty tiny, shiny pebbles
Shone, shone in the moonlight,
Thirty tiny, shiny pebbles
Shone, shone in the bright moonlight.

Forty tiny, shiny pebbles

Shone, shone in the moonlight,
Fifty tiny, shiny pebbles
Shone, shone in the bright moonlight.
(as Hansel is singing, their stepmother hears the noise and peeps out of
the window but she could not find the whereabouts of the person that is
making the noise. She wonders for a while and then goes to her bedroom.)

SCENE 3
(The woodcutter gets ready to go into the woods. He gathers his
tools sadly. Meanwhile, the stepmother sings happily as she helps
the children to get ready.)
N: The next morning, the family gets up early to cut some woods. The
stepmother who has never sets her foot on the ground happily join the
woodcutter and the children.
W: Come, children. Let us go into the woods.
(As they are walking along the path to the jungle, Hansel drops the
pebbles that he collected earlier on along the way. After some distance,
the woodcutter and his wife come to a halt.)
W: Just wait here, children. Dont move around. Your mother and I are
going to collect some wood.
S: Bye bye now. (waves at the children and them smile wickedly)
N: The woodcutter and his wife goes home without looking back On their
way home, the stepmother notices that there are some pebbles lying
along the pathway. She wonders a while.
(Soundtrack is played loudly. Hansel and Gretel try to look for their
parents but to no avail. After a few seconds)
G: Where are our parents, Hansel? What is taking them so long?
H: Hush. Stop crying. Calm down. Theres our way home. Dont you see
the glowing pebbles? (Hansel points toward the glowing pebbles which
leads them home.)
N: It was a long and exhausting journey for them but at last, they manage
to find their house. Yay!

W: (At the sight of his children, he runs and hugs them.) My babies, I am
glad that you are back!
S: I am so glad that you are back! (hugs Hansel and Gretel too) You must
be tired. Heres some bread. Eat and rest well, my dears. (sends them to
their room and shuts the room tight) You fool! There was a trail for them to
follow! Tomorrow, you must take them deeper into the woods. (yelling at
her husband)
W: Not this time darling. No, I will not!
S: Oh really? Yes, you will!
W: No, I wont!
S: Yes, you will!
W: Alright, then.

food in the woods.
Pigeon 1: They look delicious. Should I eat them?
Pigeon 2: Eww Theyre dirty!
Pigeon 1: Should I eat them? (facing the audience)
Pigeon 2: No. (shows disgusting face)
Pigeon 1: But I am too hungry. (Pigeon 1 eats immediately)
Pigeon 1: Yummy! You should try some.( Pigeon 2 joins him later and they
eat up the crumbs speedily)

reached my house. I am going to treat them well.
W: Wellwellwell What do you have here? Oh you poor children. Are

W: Hee Hee Hee.. You will never escape.
G: Brother!!
H: Gretel, run!!

*Gretel tried to escape but the witch casted a spell on her, stopping her in
her track.
H: What did you do to her? Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh
W: Keep quiet, you obnoxious boy! (casts a spell on Hansel)

Song 3
I just like to be wicked,
Its how I like to be,
Being wicked is lots of fun,
Im a wicked witch, thats me!
(Witchs cackle)

I just like to be a meanie,

Its how I like to be,
Being a meanie is lots of fun,
Im a mean witch, thats me!
(Witchs cackle)

I just like to be a baddy,

Its how I like to be,
Being a baddy is lots of fun,
Im a bad witch, thats me!

*The witch gave Gretel a broom and told her to do the housework.
W: Get sweeping!!
*Every day, the evil old witch went to see Hansel to check if he was
getting fatter.
W: Let me feel your finger.

*Hansel put a chicken bone through the bars of cage. The witch made a
mark on the wall to denote the numbers of days that had passed.
W: Too thin too thin! It has been so long and you are still not fat. I cant
wait any longer and Im going to eat you anyway!
W: Set up the fire. I am going to cook your brother today. (barks towards
Gretel)
G: Where is the fire?
*The witch led Gretel to the cauldron and opened the door.
G: I cant see the fire.
G: I still cant see the fire
*The witch dragged her closer.
W: There it is. You fool!
*Gretel seized this chance and gave the witch an enormous push. The
witch fell into the cauldron.
W: Arrrrrggggh!!!!
*Then, Gretel ran to release Hansel from the cage.
*In a corner of the house, they could see something sparkling. It was the
witchs treasure. Hansel and Gretel picked it up and began to walk back
through the forest. After many days they found their way home. Their
father was overjoyed to see them and their stepmother had left. Hansel
and Gretel were home at last and the wicked witch was gone. They gave
their father the treasure and they never went hungry again.
