1.2

Using Mouse

The mouse is a manual device that moves a pointer, which is used to select objects on the screen. The

mouse is a manual device that moves a pointer, which is used to select objects on the screen.
As the mouse is moved, the pointer follows in the same direction, allowing the user to navigate
through windows, menus and images. The mouse is used to perform five functions as
followings.
Left-Button Click

: This is used to select menu, image and to activate function from icons.

Right-Button Click

: This is used to set up basic menu of ZENIS

Double Click

: This is used to change the image size.

Left-Button Drag

: This is used to perform following functions;

1) To pan an image, drag the mouse up, down, left or righ.


2) To create an editable text field, click the text icon and drag the mouse the region where
you want to input text.
3) To control brightness and contrast of image, drag the mouse up, down, left or right.
Right-Button Drag : This is used to perform window level function.
Scroll

: Rolling up and down the mouse wheel. Scroll is activated in main image

window and thumbnail window and used to see another images. (This is only available
when you use the wheel mouse.)

II. Window Structure

Mode Bar: Mode Bar displays the name of mode.
Menu Bar : Menu Bar contains the menus used to access commands corresponding to
mode.
Tool Box : Tool Box contains the icons for the image control.
Main Image window : Main Image Window is the large area where images and/or archive
data are displayed.
Thumbnail Window: Thumbnail Window shows thumbnail(s) images of selected patient.

2.1

Mode Bar & Menu Bar

There is 3 operation modes in Zenis.


User can change the mode by selecting a mode button, though the user does not select the
mode button, sometimes the mode changes to another mode automatically for efficiency of
work.
Each Mode has sub-menus containing all the functions and operations available in the mode

(1) Exposure Mode : Exposure Mode contains Registration, LIH, DICOM Server, Print, Modify
Information, Delete Image, Close Patient, and Shutdown.

: Enrolling patient

2) LIH (Last Image Holder)

: Opening the last image hold

3) DICOM Server

: Forwarding images to other PC or device.

4) Print

: Printing image and patient information

5) Modify Information

: Modifying patient registration information

6) Delete Image

: Deleting image

(2) Archive Mode : Archive Mode contains Search , Open patient, Delete Patient, DICOM Server,
Modify Information, Convert/Export, Import patient, Insert images and Shutdown.

: Searching the enrolled patient information.

: Opening the enrolled patient information.

3) Delete Patient

: Deleting the enrolled patient information.

4) DICOM Server

: Forwarding images to other PC or device.

5) Modify Information

: Modifying the enrolled patient registration information

6) Convert/Export

: Saving the images as the file format of BMP, JPEG,


GIF with patient information or images only.

7) Import Patients

: Inputting the backed up patient registration information


or images.

8) Insert images

: Saving additional image of enrolled patient.

9) Shutdown

: Exit the Zenis

(3) Viewer Mode : View Mode contains DICOM Server, Print, Modify Information, Convert/ Export,
Delete Image, Close patient, and Shutdown.

: Forwarding images to other PC or device.

3) Modify Information : Modifying patient registration information

: Saving the images as the file format of BMP, JPEG, TIF

2.2

Main Image Window

The Main Image window shows the image and information of selected patient.

Image
Patient Information : Patients Name, ID and Date.
Window Level Status

Thumbnail Window

Thumbnail window shows the thumbnails images of a patient. Thumbnail images are shown in
screen up to maximum 7 images. If the number of images is greater than 7, the left-right arrow
button is activated and user can use it to see other images.

The image is outlined when it is selected, and the original image is presented on the main image
window.

III. Tool Box


The Tool Box contains various icons for the image control and the investigation in detail.
The Tool Box for a single image is like below.

1 x 1 shows one image on the main image window in a time.


Click the 1 x 1 icon on the tool box to use.

2 x 2 shows four images on the main image window in a time.

To select indicated text, distance or angle in image by mouse dragging

Zoom

This function enables interactive zoom by mouse dragging.


To zoom an image ;
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the Zoom icon on the tool box.
3. Move the mouse pointer to the main image window, the mouse pointer change its
shape like a magnifier.

4. Click left-button and drag the mouse on the image to adjust the size by Zoom function.
Zoom in drag mouse upward on the image
Zoom out - drag mouse downward on the image

3.6

Pan

This function is used to move the image to center a feature of interest in the main image window.
To move an image within the frame:
1. Select an image of patient to be panned.
2. Click the Pan icon on the tool box.
3. Move the mouse pointer to the main image window and the mouse pointer takes the
shape of a hand.

4. Press the left-button of a mouse at a point and drag the image to the desired position

3.7 Pencil

This function is used to write or draw pictures on the image like a pencil in the main image
window.

Click Palette icon(

) to change color or thickness of lines.

Iit will be B/W line when the monitor displays only B/W.

Magic Glass

This function is used to magnify a local region of interest.


To magnify a local region of interest:
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the Magic Glass icon on the tool box.
3. Move the mouse pointer to the main image window and the mouse pointer takes the
shape of a magnifying glass.

4. Click on the detail in the image that the user wants to enlarge. The image around the
mouse pointer is enlarged.

To exit the Magic Glass, click another icon on the tool panel

This function can be applied to single image only.

3.10

Angle

This function is used to measure the angle among three points over an image. When the user
completes drawing an angle, the value of the angle is computed and presented automatically.
To measure an angle:
1. Select an image of patient.
2. Click the Angle icon on the tool box.
3. Move the mouse pointer to the center of angle, and click the left-button of the mouse.
4. Click the left-button of the mouse after selecting 2 different point in the image
5. The value of the angle is presented in the image automatically.

You can draw one angle only at a time. If you wish to draw another
angle, you must click the icon again.

3.11

Ellipse

This function is used to draw an ellipse (including circle) over an image to indicate a region of
interest.
To draw an ellipse:
1. Select an image of patient.
2. Click the Ellipse icon on the tool box.
3. Move the mouse pointer to the main image window.
4. Click the left-button of the mouse at one of the apexes of the rectangle circumscribe
to an ellipse you want to draw. And drag the mouse in the image.

If you move the mouse pointer on the curve of an ellipse, click select button and the
mouse pointer takes the shape of 4-arrows. In this time, dragging the ellipse, you can
move the ellipse to other positions.

3.12

Arrow

This function is used to draw an arrow over an image to indicate a region of interest.
To draw an arrow:
1. Select an image of patient.
2. Click the Arrow icon on the tool box.
3. Move a mouse pointer to the main image window.
4. Locate the

mouse pointer on the image which is a start point and drag.

5. Stop dragging when the arrow is long enough.

3.13

Polygon

This function is used to draw a polygon over an image to indicate a region of interest.
To draw a polygon:
1. Select an image of patient.
2. Click the Polygon icon on the tool box.
3. Move the mouse pointer to the main image window.
4. Locate the mouse pointer on the image which is a start point and click left-button of
mouse.
5.

Draw a polygon clicking edges.

6. Click right-button of mouse to complete polygon.

3.14

Text

This function is used to insert the text on an image. By using this function with line, angle and
elliptical function, you can save investigation results to database and notify it to others.
To insert a text :
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the Text icon on the tool box.
3. Drag the mouse over a rectangle area where you want to insert a text.

4. Type a text in the rectangle. To end typing, Press Enter key or click the left-button of the mouse
outer region of the rectangle. Then the background changes from white color to transparent.

If you move the mouse pointer on the text area, click select button and the mouse pointer
takes the shape of 4-arrows. In this time, dragging the text, you can move the text to another
position.
If you want to modify the text, please double click the text.
You can insert one Text only at a time. If you wish to insert more Text,
you must click the icon again.

3.15

Distance

This function is used to draw a line connects between two points over an image and measure
the distance. When the drawing is completed, the distance of the line is computed and
presented automatically.
To draw a line:
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the Distance icon on the tool box.
3. Move the mouse pointer to the main image window.
4. Press the left-button of the mouse at one point and drag to the other point you want to
draw a line between them.

5. The distance between two points is presented automatically.


If you move the mouse pointer on the line, the mouse pointer takes the shape of 4-arrows.
In this time, dragging the line, you can move the line to another position.
If you move the mouse pointer at the end of the line, click select button and the mouse
pointer takes the shape of cross-circle. In this time, dragging the end of the line, you can
change the direction and magnitude of the line.
There is one distance unit(mm).
The unit can be set according to pixel.
You can draw one line only at a time. If you wish to draw another line, you
must click the icon again.

3.16

Calibration

This function is used to draw a line connects between two points over an image and convert
unit of measured distance from pixel to mm. When the drawing is completed, the window for
calibration of unit is presented automatically.
To calibration of unit,
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the Calibration icon on the tool box.
6. Move the mouse pointer to the main image window.
7. Press the left-button of the mouse at one point and drag to the other point you want to
draw a line between them.
1. Input mm and click OK on the window for calibration of unit.
2. The value of length will be presented by mm from next time automatically.

3.17

Fit

This function is used to fit an image to the window size. The original image size is fitted to the
window size.
To fit an image to the window size:
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the Fit icon on the tool box.

Invert

This function is used to convert an image to the negative image.


To convert an image to the negative image:
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Just click the Invert icon on the tool box

To convert several images to the negative images at once, after


selecting several images in the study of a patient, do the step 2.

3.19

CW (Clockwise)

This function is used to rotate an image to clockwise by 90.


To rotate an image to clockwise:
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the CW icon on the tool box.

It is only possible to rotate an image by 90 at one time.


To rotate several images at once, after selecting several images in the study of a patient, do the step 2.

3.20

CCW (Counterclockwise)

This function is used to rotate an image to counterclockwise by 90.


To rotate an image to counterclockwise:
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the CCW icon on the tool box.

It is only possible to rotate an image by 90 at one time.


To rotate several images at once, after selecting several images in the study of a patient, do the step 2

Horizontal

This function is used to convert an image to the horizontal mirror image. (top and bottom are reversed).
To use the Horizontal Mirror:
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the Horizontal Mirror icon in the tool box and the image is flipped horizontally.

To convert several images at once, hold on pressing [Ctrl] key while you are doing the 1~2 steps.
If graphic elements are shown in the image (text, lines, angles, etc.) they are also flipped
and retain their position with respect to the image.

3.22

Vertical

This function is used to convert an image to the vertical mirror image. (left and right are reversed).
To use the Vertical Mirror
1. Select the image of a patient.
2. Click the Vertical Mirror icon in the tool box and the image is flipped vertically.

If graphic elements are shown in the image (text, lines, angles, etc.) they are also flipped
and retain their position with respect to the image.

L/R

This function is used to indicate Left, Right on left side of an image to the vertical mirror image.
To indicate Left, Right,
1. Select the image of a patient.
2. Click the L/R icon on the tool box.

Reset

This function is used to reset adjusted brightness and contrast of image.


To reset,
1. Select adjusted image.
2. Click the Reset icon on the tool box.

Palette

This function is used to change color of line and text for Distance, Ellipse, Text, Angle, Arrow
and Pencil and set Pencil thickness, Text Size for writing test and Text size for indicating
information.
To use Palette
1.

Click Palette icon.

2.

Change the color and/or value.

3.

Click Apply button

Filter

This function is used to filtrate the image with basic filter function..
To use Filter function,
1.

Click Filter icon.

2.

Select filter type and adjust filter strength.

3.

Click Apply button.

Play

This function is used to save image as moving image format (AVI).

3.27.1 Play Menu


Play moving image.
Stop the moving image in play.
Record moving image. (At Play mode, it is not revitalized.)
Pause moving image in play.
Backward moving image in play.
Forward moving image in play.
Backward moving image in Play more than Bwd icon at one click.
Forward moving image in Play more than Fwd icon at one click.
Set moving image
Close Ply mode of moving image.

Click Play icon.

4. Check With sound if you want to record sound with micro phone which is installed in PC.

Click Apply when setting is completed.

1.

Select moving image indicated Live at the right bottom of image.

Click Play icon.

Selected moving image is played automatically.

Window Level
(Non icon image)

This function is used to adjust the window level(brightness and contrast) of an image.
The current window level values are shown in the bottom left-hand corner of the image. The
adjusting method is same with default function. But you can use right-button dragging.
To adjust the window level of an image:
1. Select an image of a patient.
2. Click the right-button of mouse on the image.
3. Mouse pointer takes the shape of a shining sun and half dark-bright circle.

4. Click and drag within the image. The image values are altered simultaneously.

To adjust window level of several images at once, After you want


to select an image, hold on pressing [Ctrl] key while you are
doing the step 1~4.

IV. Exposure
The Exposure mode is consisted of 8 menus. This mode is used to take an X-ray image of a
patient.

4.1

Registration

The Patient Registration is used to:


1. Register the current patient.
2. Manage reserved information of patients from the worklist server.
3. Register an emergency patient.
To run the Patient Registration, click the Registration menu. Then the window in next page will
appear. There are two tabs, Patient Register Information and Worklist. Each has a function as
following:
1. Patient Register Information is used to register a new patient.
2. Worklist is used to manage reserved information of patients from the worklist server.

4.1.1 Patient Information

To register a new patient:


1. Input the information of a new patient to item value field.
2. Click the Register button.
To register a emergency patient
1. Click the Register button.

4.1.2 Worklist
Worklist shows the list of reserved patients from the worklist server.

4.2

LIH(Last Image Holder)

Saving the last image hold.

4.3

DICOM Server

Forwarding images to other PC or Main Server.


To run the DICOM Server, click the DICOM Server menu. Then the window in next page will
appear. There are two tabs, the image storage items and Status log. Each has a function as
following:
1. The image storage items is used to appear selected image of patient for DICOM translation.
2. Status log is used to appear DICOM translation status.

4.3.1 Selecting Option


If you click the DICOM Server button, the dialog box as following will pop up.

You can select whether to transfer the all images or the selected images.
- Cancel: Abort the transformation
- OK: Proceed the transformation
4.3.2 Configure Storage Server and Worklist Server
1. Click the Configure button and the following dialog box will pop up.
2. Input the information of item and click the OK button.

You cant apply the configuration while the DICOM transformation is running.

4.4

Print

This menu is used to print current image of patient.


To print, click Print icon and then new window will be opened.
There are 2 parts Printer and Printer Images in the new window. The functions of each are;
1.

Select printer at Printer part.

2.

Select images which will be printed.

3.

Set the information which display on printed image.

4.5 Modify Information

Modify information is used to modify the information of a patient.


The method of modifying the item is all the same with Patient Registration menu.
See 4.1 Registration

4.6 Delete Image

This menu is used to delete the selected image of patient.


To delete several images at once, After hold on pressing [Ctrl] key,
you select the image.

Close Patient

The Close Patient menu is used to close all the information and images of a selected patient

Shutdown

The Shutdown menu is used to exit the Zenis Software.

If you click O.K button, Zenis is off.

V. Archive
The Archive mode is consisted of 8 menus. This mode is used to search and delete
information of all the enrolled patients and etc..

5.1

Search

This menu is used to search the information of all the enrolled patients.
To search the information of patient:
1. Click the Search menu.
2. Then the below dialog box will appear.
3. Search Range: You can select any condition in the dialog box as following:

5.2

Open Patient

The Open Patient menu is used to open the data of selected patient.
To open the data of a patient:
1. Select a patient in the list.
2. Click the Open Patient menu, the Archive mode changes to the Viewer mode
automatically.
3. The Archive mode changes to the Viewer mode automatically.

You cant open several data of patients at once.

5.3

Delete Patient

The Delete Patient menu is used to delete all the data of a selected patient.
To delete the data of a patient:
1. Select a patient in the list.
2. Click the Delete Patient menu and the data of the patient is deleted from the local
database.

If you want to delete several patients at once, hold on pressing


[Ctrl] key while you are selecting patients in the list.

Modify Information

Convert / Export

The Convert / Export Images is used to save the image with information of patient or only
Image of patient at users local HDD.
Function of this menu is as below.
5.6.1 File Type: You can select an image format in BMP, JPEG , TIF, PNG and GIF.

5.6.2 Destination Directory : You can restore the images in the arbitrary directory in the local
HDD.

5.6.3 Selection Option : You can select whether to convert / export all images or only selected
images of a patient.

5.6.4 Patient Information File : You can select whether to convert/export images with
Information file of patient or only images of a patient.

5.6.5 Burned Information on image : Yon can select whether to save images with annotation or
only images of a patient to external memory.

Insert image

The insert images menu is used to insert images to enrolled patient.


1. Select a patient on the list and click Insert images icon.
2. The window moves to Exposure mode automatically and you can insert images.

Import patients

The Import patient menu is used to input existing back-up file.


To input back-up file,
1. Click Import patients on the list.
2. Set the folder which back-up file in.
3. Click Import patient button, back-up file will be input on the list.

Shutdown
