Programming guide

1 Preface
Please read these chapters thoroughly before you start to make settings. When you have understood the general
operational concept, it will be easier for you to program the GHL Doser 2 quickly and target-oriented.
This programming manual puts emphasis on the configuration via the GHL Control Center, the operation via the
Android resp. IOS app deviates in some points from this description. But the single settings have the same meaning.

1.1 Safety hints!

Never leave your aquarium without supervision for a longer time!
Always keep in mind that every technology can fail and that malfunctions never can be excluded!
A power-cut, inappropriate settings, a damage (e.g. caused by water or overvoltage) or just an unexpected operating
condition can lead to fatal damages!
The manufacturer refuses any liability for (consequential) damages or losses related to the use of the GHL Doser 2
as far as legally permissible!

2 Connectivity
The GHL Doser 2 has various connectivity options, which allow you to connect directly with the GHL Doser 2 or
integrate it into an existing network.
Following options are available:
-

Direct USB connection

Direct W-LAN connection
Integrate over W-LAN in your own network
Integrate over LAN in your own network

Before you connect the GHL Doser 2 to your PC, install the latest GHL Control Center first. The GHL
Control Center can be found on www.aquariumcomputer.com in the download area.

2.1 Direct USB Connection

Connect the included USB cable to the GHL Doser 2 and the PC, the USB driver will be installed automatically.
Open the GHL Control Center to establish a connection.
If the GHL Control Center is used for the first time, a GHL Doser 2 USB connection exists in the selection list
and you can connect to the GHL Doser 2.
If no GHL Doser 2 in the selection list exists, you have to create a new connection via the menu item
Administrate.

2.2 W-LAN / LAN Connection

All settings for W-LAN or LAN connections can be made with the help of the GHL Control Center.
To do this connect via USB to the GHL Doser 2 and open the menu item System. This opens a dialog which
allows you to change the settings.

2.2.1 Direct W-LAN Connection

The GHL Doser 2 can be used as an access point and thus offers the possibility of a direct connection with a
smartphone or tablet. For this no access point is needed, you can connect through the settings of your smartphone or
tablet.
To use the GHL Doser 2 as an access point, proceed as follows:

Connect over USB with your GHL Doser 2 and select the menu item System.
Select W-LAN as Mode.
Then select the Access point mode, so you can connect directly to the GHL Doser 2.
With Hide you can choose whether the GHL Doser 2 should be visible for other devices or not.
Select the Encryption and the Encryption type, recommended is WPA2PSK and AES.
Then enter the W-LAN key, this you can choose freely.
Finally, select the W-LAN mode and Channel, 11b/g/h mixed and Auto is recommended.

After you have set all needed settings click the save button, the GHL Doser 2 needs a few minutes to save the
settings.
If it does not work right away, restart the GHL Doser 2 (unplug power cable).
To be able to connect with the smartphone app, you need to connect via W-LAN directly to the GHL Doser 2.
To do this open the wireless settings of your smartphone or tablet, connect to the network GHL-DOSER2 and enter
the previously set W-LAN key.
In the app you have to enter the IP address 10.10.100.254 to connect with the GHL Doser 2.

2.2.2 Integrate over W-LAN in your own network

You can integrate the GHL Doser 2 over W-LAN in your network and access it from any device that is on the
network.
This requires a W-LAN connection to the access point.
To connect the GHL Doser 2 over W-LAN to an existing network, proceed as follows:

1.
2.
3.
4.

Connect over USB with your GHL Doser 2 and select the menu item System.
Select W-LAN as Mode.
Then select Client mode to allow the GHL Doser 2 to connect to the local network.
Now you have to assign a fixed IP address to the GHL Doser 2, for that you select the point Use
following settings and type in the IP address, Subnet mask and the Default gateway.

(Alternatively, you can choose to automatically obtain the IP address, you must then determine which
address from the access point to the GHL Doser 2 was assigned.)
Next, enter the SSID of your access point, these can be found in the user interface or on the back of the
access point.
Then select the Encryption and Encryption type, you will find it in the user interface or back of your
access point. (On AVMs FritzBox is AES = CCMP)
Finally, enter the W-LAN key, these can be found mostly on the back or in the user interface of the access
point.

After you set all needed settings click the Save button, the GHL Doser 2 needs a few minutes to connect to the
local network.
If it does not work right away, restart the GHL Doser 2 (unplug power cable).
To be able to connect with the smartphone app, you need to enter the previously set IP address.

2.2.3 Integrate over LAN in your own network

You can integrate the GHL Doser 2 over LAN in your network and access it from any device that is on the network.
This requires a connection with a network cable to the access point.
To connect the GHL Doser 2 over LAN to an existing network, proceed as follows:

3 Dosing pump
The GHL Doser 2 disposes of 4 (expandable up to max. 16 by GHL Doser 2 Slave) freely programmable dosing pump
controls.

Programming guide

After the selection of the dosing pump which you would like to program, the Switching mode needs to be set.
You can choose among the following options:
Automatic dosing
As many Dosings per day will take place as it has been set before under Switching cycles per day.
The time points of the dosings are calculated automatically (they are spread evenly throughout the day). The
switching duration is calculated automatically on the basis of the Flow rate of the pump and the Rate per
dosing (see below).
Manual dosing
As many Dosings per day will take place as it has been set before under Switching cycles per day.
The time points of the dosings can be defined explicitly afterwards. The switching duration is calculated automatically
on the basis of the Flow rate of the pump and the Rate per dosing (see below).
Thereafter you can enter the number of Switching cycles per day (0 to 8 for manual, 0 to 150 for
automatic; 0 means that this dosing pump is not active).
After defining the Switching cycles you have to enter the Day mode:
Days of week
Here you have to set on which days of week the switching shall take place. A marked box means "Switching on this
day of week active", a blank box means "inactive".
Interval of days
Here the number of days is set after which the switching cycle shall be repeated, 1 day means daily switching cycle.
After this it has to be set in how many days the switching shall be started.
Furthermore you also have to enter the Flow rate in ml/minute and the Maximum speed. Here the actual pump
performance is meant, based on this indication, the GHL Doser 2 calculates the switch-on times of the dosing pump. A
change of this setting does not influence the pump performance this is firmly predefined by the chosen Maximum
speed! In case of an automatic dosing you have to set furthermore the Rate per dosing.
In the event you chose Automatic dosing the first dosing of the day will happen at 0:00. With Always dose
at (this time) you have the opportunity to determine the time of the first dosing. All further dosings will be spread
over the day accordingly.
These functions can only be used with the GHL Control Center or the web interface:
The dosing pump control monitors the filling level, during pump activity the GHL Doser 2 calculates the new filling
level. Therefore the capacity of the container and the minimum amount have to be set. If alarm
when below is enabled the GHL Doser 2 outputs an alarm if necessary. Before an alarm, the GHL Doser 2 first gives a
warning.
When the container is being refilled the refill amount has to be entered, a potentially present alarm will be reset when
the refill amount is sufficient.

The dosing amount per day corresponds to the product of Dosings/day and Rate/ Dosing
e.g. 4 dosings per day 10 ml result in a dosing per day of 40 ml.
Hints for
dosing

As of 27/11/2014

Due to tolerances, the flow rate of a pump given on the data sheet can possibly deviate from the
reality. To achieve the highest dosing accuracy as possible, we recommend to measure the actual
flow rate of a pump (let pump run for 1 minute and measure the quantity of fluid pumped in this
time) and to set the result of this measurement under Flow rate.
