introduction
you have different kinds of soil for example peat, clay and sand. Each type has its own property's
for example peat is a loosely type of soil so it is easy for the roots to grow and peat holds the water
for a while so there is no need for a big serves of roots. Clay on the other hand is title pact and hart
to penetrate thus the roods will take longer to grow and it will cost more energy. But the clay will
hold the water for a very long time thus the roots dont need a great serves. At last the sand, it is a
lose material so it want hold water that well that is a problem for the roots there fore they need a big
serves area to get enough water. The upside is that trough to lose ground the roots can grow easily
and dont need lots of energy. (most knowledge of my one that I learned in secondary school else
from Campbell & Reese, global Edition)
We want to find out how the roots grow and witch type of soil is better to grow on.
The hypothesis is
Whit the information from above the peat will grow the best because the roots can grow easy and it
holds enough water for the plant to survive.
Experimental procedure
First you'll need a rizhotron. The rhizotron is divided into two chambers, 15 cm wide and 30 cm
high each, by placing the extra spacer upright in the middle of the back plate. The back plate is the
glass plate with three spacers already glued to it. The divider spacer is mounted with a layer of
vaseline to make a watertight connection to the back and front plates of the rhizotron.
Then get two sunflower kernels (Helianthus annuus) and rye grains (Secale cereale) witch are
soaked in water for 24 hours. Then place one of each type in either side. Water the soil until it is
darkened al trough. Rap the rhizotron in dark paper but leaf the top open for the plants to grow.
Masseur the roots, water, the growth of the plant and the conditions of the soil the plants live in. Do
this twice a week and note down how much water you added every time.
Results
Our plants died and nothing grew, the dirt was dry at the and I dont know how much water was
added because that data was lost. So the length of the root and plant where 0.
discussion
There could be different reasons that non of our seed grew. One is that the seed where dead and
couldnt grow. Two there was not enough water added to the rizhotron thus the ground was to dry
for a organism to live in. Third the soil could have had wrong bacteria and killed the seed doubtful
but possible.
Conclusion
The experiment went wrong so we dont know how the roots grow in peat.
So my recommendations are use more seed so you have a higher chance that one of them will grow.
Water more often and check if the soil is wed enough multiple times a weak.
