Dishwasher Construction
Dishwasher Sections:
Five sections make up the basic assembly. The sections are:
Load soiled ware enters the machine
Prewash loosens/removes heavy soils for the wash section
Wash cleans remaining soils with detergent/heat/sprayed water
Rinse rinses soap and remaining particles; higher water temperature
begins the sanitization process
Final rinse - destroys any bacteria on wares with 180-195F hot water
removes any remaining soap or particles
Unload -

What if you stood in your front yard while a friend stood in your back yard in order
to plan a project. You tell him to move to the right, but he keeps moving to the left.
We know what is wrong. You and he have a different reference point in relation to the

refer to a dishwasher, they make sure they view the dishwasher using the same reference
point. That's just common sense, isn't it. The same holds true as you learn how

Direction of Conveyor
The conveyor direction of travel is referenced
from the load section to the unload section.
If the load section is on your right then direction
of travel for the dishwasher is Right to Left, (R-L).
Conversely, if the load section is on the left
then the dishwasher is called a
Left to Right, (L-R), dishwasher.

CAUTION:
Standard 36" doorways often measure
less than 35" in width.
Shipping pallets measure 48" wide.
24
IMPORTANT
Check the utilities early
Incorrect voltage, hot water supply,
or steam piping may delay the
completion of the installation
5.
6.
CAUTION
Use extreme care when lifting
a section off its pallet to prevent
damage to the dishwasher.

9.
10.
11.
12. The illustration above shows the correct placement of the sections.
13. The recommended spacing between sections is 2 feet. Of course, the size of your
dishroom dictates the actual section spacing.
14. Study the illustration above. Note that each section name also contains a designated
letter, (A, B, C, E).
15. The illustrated dishwasher is a right-to-left, (R-L) configuration which indicates that soiled
wares enter on the right and exit on the left. A left-to-right, (L-R), dishwasher is the
reverse of a R-L dishwasher.
16. The "E" or Eco-rinse section is an option and may not be a part of your installation. The
dashed lines between the "C" and "E" sections indicate that the "E" section usually ships
as part of "C" section.
17. The "C" section ships as a single assy in 4, 6, or 8 ft. lengths.
18. The Order of Assembly should start with the "C" section; however, it is okay to start with
the "B" section if the plumber is ready to make the hot water and steam connections.

Perform the following checks and adjustments before placing the machine into service.
Check the interior of the machine and remove any foreign material.
Check the exterior of the machine make sure that the conveyor belt is free of tape and
foreign material.
Baffles
Tank baffles redirect the flow of water from the spray arm systems back into the tanks. This
prevents water loss and keeps the wash, rinse, and final rinse water in the proper tank.
Check the baffles make sure that they are installed and positioned correctly.
Close the tank drain valves along the lower front of the machine.
Open the water supply valves. Check for leaks and take corrective action as required.
Open the steam supply valves (if applicable). Check for leaks and take corrective
action if required.
Turn the main power on at the breaker panel or fused disconnect switch.
Machine main power
Electric booster main power (if applicable)
Flip the Power Switch on the front of the Control Cabinet to the "ON" position.
The Red power on light will illuminate.
The machine will begin to fill with water.
Allow the machine to completely fill with water.
The water will shut off automatically.
43
Initial Start-up
Move the conveyor shut-off shelf located at the end of the unload section toward the
machine. This resets the automatic conveyor stop system.
When an object on the conveyor contacts the shut-off shelf, the conveyor stops.
Press the GREEN start button on the front of the control cabinet.
Check the direction of rotation of the conveyor belt by observing the direction
arrow decal on the large conveyor drive sprocket. The sprocket is located on the
side of the unload section.
If rotation direction is incorrect, reverse wires L1 and L2 on the disconnect switch
side of the main electrical connection terminal block located inside the control
cabinet.
Adjust the conveyor belt drive clutch. The clutch is located on the large conveyor
drive sprocket on the side of the unload section.
To adjust:
Tighten the clutch nut on the center of the drive sprocket until the conveyor begins
to move.
Have a person of average build (about 185 lbs.) hold the belt with
both hands and pull against the direction of travel.
Continue tightening the clutch nut until maximum effort against the
direction of travel is required to stop the belt.
CHECK AND ADJUST CLUTCH MONTHLY.
Check the alignment of the conveyor belt. Adjust the take-up assemblies so that
Conveyor Rollers (A) track evenly on Conveyor Sprockets (B).
Check the Energy Sentinel (idle pump shut-off) by placing a tray or dish on the
moving conveyor belt.
The pumps will start as the object enters the tunnel of the machine.
The optional econo-rinse pump starts with the final rinse.

Utilities _____________________
Plumbing, Steam, Condensate, Drain
Refer to the utility summary below before you begin troubleshooting a condition.
Shut-off valves
1.
Installed in the incoming steam supply lines as close to the machine as possible.
3/4" NPT 110F. Flow pressure 20-22 PSI, for built-in 70F rise steam/electric booster
3.
3/4" NPT 180F. Flow pressure 20-22 PSI, without built-in booster
Cold Water
1. 1/2" NPT 65F tempering cold water connection, for prewash with cold water thermostat.
Steam Supply
1. Refer to the P&E Connections Drawing or consult the factory.
Steam Condensate
1. 1/2" NPT with no back pressure.
IMPORTANT !
The steam condensate line CANNOT BE HIGHER than the lowest steam trap.
A condensate pump, (by others) , must be installed in the condensate line if
the installation requires the line to be higher than the lowest steam trap.
Drain
1. 1-1/2" NPT for main drain line.
2.

______________________ Utilities
Electrical and Ventilation
Electrical
1.
Electrical and grounding connections must comply with Local Electrical Codes
or the National Electrical Code in the absence of local codes.
2.
A qualified electrician must compare the electrical power supply with the machine electrical
specifications stamped on the MACHINE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION PLATE located inside
the control cabinet before connecting to the incoming service
at a fused disconnect switch.
3.
Motor rotation was checked at the factory; but there is 50% chance that the
incoming power to the dishwasher is out of phase with the dishwasher.
4.
5.
6.
7.
Correct rotation for the pump motors is CW as viewed from the rear of the motor.
8.
9.
A built-in electric booster or an electric blower dryer requires a separate electric service.
10.
A fused disconnect switch or circuit breaker (supplied by others) is required to protect each
power supply circuit.
Ventilation
MODELS:
EUCC
LOAD END
EUCCW
EUCCW-WS
UNLOAD END*
1.
2.
Duct connections must be made to the inside of the machine vent stacks.
3.
Exhaust air must not be vented into a wall, ceiling, or concealed space of the building.
4.
With an optional Blower dryer, increase room ventilation by 600 CFM at 1/4" S.P.
at the unload end.
5.
A minimum of six (6) air changes per hour (provided by building ventilation system) is
recommended for the warewashing area.
195
1. Machine Condition:
196
_________________Basic Service
Electrical Service
The Wash Heater Contactors (HC1, HC2) are energized through the normally open 3CR contacts and the
tank heaters are energized. The Wash Tank Heaters are now controlled by the tank heat thermostat and
the tank heat high limit thermostat.
The Prewash Fill Valve is energized through the normally closed contacts on the Prewash Fill Switch Relay
(2CR). The Prewash Fill Valve opens and Prewash Tank starts to fill. As the Prewash Tank fills the lower
float on the Prewash Tank Float Switch rises and closes its switch. When the Prewash Tank is full the
upper float rises and closes its switch. This energizes 2CR and the relay contacts change state
deenergizing Prewash Fill Valve.
2. Machine Condition:
Starting Sequence:
Start the machine by pressing the Green Start button. This energizes the Hold In Relay (CR). If the
Conveyor Switch (CVSW) is closed the drive motor will start and the conveyor belt move. When CR is
energized the normally open CR contacts close. The CR contact in parallel with the start button
maintains the CR relay energized. The CR contacts in the booster heat circuit transfer control of the
booster heaters form the Econo Rinse Fill Switch to the CR relay. The third set of CR contacts close to
provide a machine running signal.
If the conveyor switch opens the Conveyor Switch Relay (6CR) will deenergize interrupting power to the
Drive Motor Contactor. This stops the Drive Motor. Closing the Conveyor Switch reenergizes 6CR and
the Drive Motor starts.
If the Stop Button is pressed the CR relay is deenergized. This opens the normally open CR contacts.
The Drive Motor contactor is deenergized stopping the drive motor. The machine running signal
contacts open. The booster heater contactor control reverts back to the 5CR relay.
3. Machine Condition:
Timer Operation:
Place soiled ware on the moving conveyor. As the ware enters the machine the Electric Eye is
triggered and the Electric Eye Relay (EER) is energized. The EER relay is energized only while an
object passes through the Electric Eye. When the EER normally open contact is closed the Pump
Timer and Rinse Timer are triggered. The Pump Timer output changes state and the following
components start or become energized: Prewash Motor, Wash Motor, Rinse Motor, Flushing Valve,
Detergent Signal, Blower Motor, and Heat.

4. Machine Condition:
Abnormal Operation:
If a door is opened the 1CR relay deenergizes. The CR relay is deenergized and the machine stops.
Tank heaters are deenergized. The Booster Heater continues to operate. Closing the door allows the
tank heaters to operate. Pressing the start button restarts the machine. The drive motor and pumps
restart. The timers resume counting where they left off.
If the conveyor Switch is opened the Drive motor and pumps stop. The Tank Heaters and Booster
heaters continue to operate. When the conveyor Switch is closed the Drive motor and pumps restart.
The timers resume counting where they left off.
Pressing the Stop button deenergizes the CR relay. The Drive motor and pumps stop. The Tank Heaters
and Booster heaters continue to operate. When the Start button is pressed the CR relay is reenergized
and the Drive motor and pumps restart. The timers resume counting where they left off.
5. The following applies to any tank at any time after initial fill is complete:
Tank Level Control:
If the tank level falls and the upper float switch opens nothing will happen. If the tank level continues to
fall and the lower float switch opens the associated fill switch relay is deenergized and the tank heaters
contactors are deenergized. The tank fill valve opens.
As the tank refills and the lower float switch is closed nothing will happen. When the tank is full the upper
float switch closes and the fill switch relay is energized. The fill valve deenergizes and closes. The tank
heater contactors are now controlled by the thermostat.

Schematics
Champion places an electrical schematic in the control cabinet of every machine before it is shipped.
Schematics are included at the back of this manual as well. Be aware that these schematics include
options that may not apply to your machine. Options are enclosed in dashed lines with the words
(IF USED) next to them on the schematic. Disregard any options that appear on the schematics that
are not a part of your machine.
Tools
All electrical repairs can be made with: Standard set of hand tools Volt/Ohm Meter (VOM) Clip-on AC
current tester
Circuit Tests
Use a clip-on AC current tester to check the 3-phase motors and electric heaters. Use a VOM to test
the 120VAC and the 24VAC control circuits and their associated components. Do not use chassis
ground to perform voltage tests.
PERFORM VOLTAGE CHECKS BY READING FROM THE HOT SIDE OF THE
120VAC LINE AND ANY WHITE OR #2 WIRE.
WARNING !
Electric shock may cause injury or death.
DO NOT WORK ON AN ENERGIZED CIRCUIT.
Turn off the main power service disconnect switch.
Attach a label indicating that work is being made
on the electrical circuit.
200
Motor Overloads
Overloads are located inside the control cabinet. Each 3-phase motor has an overload and
an auxiliary switch that breaks the 120VAC power to its associated motor contactor.

Circuit Explanation:
Bottom Float and Reed Switch:
1.
2.
When the bottom float is up, the bottom reed switch is Normally
Closed (NC).
2.
When the top float is down, the top reed switch is Normally Open
(NO).
3.
When the top float is up, the top reed switch is Normally Closed
(NC).
When the tank is completely empty, the top float is down and its reed switch is NO.
2.
3.
The fill valve for the tank is energized and the tank begins to fill with water.
4.
As the water level in the tank rises, the bottom float begins to move up.
5.
When the bottom float is completely up, its NO reed switch contacts close.
6.
This prepares the heat circuit, but the heat Does Not energize at this time.
7.
The tank continues to fill until the top float is completely up.
8.
The top floats NO reed switch contacts close. Its control relay energizes.
The fill valve de-energizes.
9.
The heat circuit energizes through the NC contacts of the bottom float and the contacts of the
control relay.

Note:
The Power Rinse Tank dual float controls the heat circuit of the OPTIONAL Champion
built-in booster (Steam or Electric). 120VAC Booster Control Voltage is supplied from
the rinse tank heat control thermostat to the booster heat control thermostat.
