Cooperation is truly one of the most cherished traits of human.

It might be the
most important factor which has propelled human development. The journey from pr
imitive people to today's modern world wouldn't have been possible without coope
ration and our ability to build upon the works of other. The task of a leader is
to guide his/her team towards the desired goal. The traits of effective leaders
hip have been issue of debate for a long time. Neverthless it's true that coopea
tion is one of the important qualities present in a good leader. A good leader l
ends his/her support to the team to ensure that they remain productive towards t
he desired target. It's the task of a leader to solve any issue his/her team mig
ht be facing. If the subordinates think that their leader is cooperative, they a
re more likely to be honest with him regarding any issue which might be affectin
g them and thus the goal. Also it would be easier for them to present their view
s and suggestions even if it is in contrast with their leaders' view. For many j
obs having a broad and diverse perspective to a problem is very crucial and lend
s further valuable insights. Cooperation in the team maximizes the team's produc
tivity and thus its effectiveness in handling any job. Whereas if a leader is pe
rceived to be hostile or strict or too competetive by the subordinates they are
more likely to simulate their agreement with the leader's opinion even if in rea
lity they hold different opinions. If such a leader makes a mistake in some deci
sion, it's unlikely that it would be corrected by the team. Also such a behavio
ur deprives the team of diverse perspectives of various team members and the job
essentially becomes one man show.
Even if hostile competetion is something to be avoided by a good leader, a fair
and healthy competetion is a good quality. It motivates everyone to keep improvi
ng constantly. But it's important that the competetors respect each other, ackno
wledge each-other's strengths and work towards improving their weaknesses. For e
xample if their is a healthy competetive feeling in a team, then everone would l
ike to excel or do better than the others and thus giving their best. But if the
competetion is ill-willed then it might have more negative impacts than positiv
e outcomes. For instance rather than focussing on improving oneself, one might t
ry to create obstacles for other team members to show his/her superiority. Also
this leads to a reduced collaboration between the team members and thus sub-opti
mal performance.
