FOR MATERIAL PROFIT!

The Three Holy Hierarchs

Our Holy Fathers among the Saints St Basil the Great, St Gregory the
Theologian and St John Chrysostom are known as The Three Holy
Hierarchs due to their extraordinary leadership of Christs Holy
Church.
They share a Feast Day on 30 January because, during the 11th Century,
fierce disputes raged amongst the people of Constantinople with
regard to the which of these three Holy Hierarchs was the most
important and most greatest of all.
These debates were growing out of control and threatening the Unity of
the Holy Church especially when it began to affect even the notable
and virtuous Christians, some of whom preferred St Basil, others
preferred St Gregory and yet others, preferred St John Chrysostom.
Furthermore various factions were evolving with each assuming the
name of their favourite Saint calling themselves Basilians,
Gregorians or Joannites.
Finally, in 1084, by the Divine Grace of our Most Benevolent and Loving
God, a most Pious and Faithful Monk, St John Mavropous (Blackfoot)
who was the Bishop of Euchaita was granted a Holy Vision whereby all
three Hierarchs appeared before him and told him that they were all
equal in the Divine Presence of the Almighty Lord our God: There is
no division among us and no opposition to one another!
Consequently, 30 January Commemorates all three Holy Church Fathers
who have left us such a wonderful legacy of the Orthodox Faith and
we celebrate their Holy Festal Service with the Hymns that were
composed, according to the Will of God and His Holy Hierarchs, by St
John of Euchaita.
May their memories be Eternal and may these our Holy Hierarchs
continue to Intercede with Christ for the Eternal Salvation of our soul.
