WOODROW HONORED
AT SUPER BOWL XLV EVENT
Woodrow Wilson High School was honored with a plaque acknowledging its status
as the first high school in the country to produce two Heisman Trophy winners,
Davey O'Brien and Tim Brown, at the Super Bowl XLV "Century in the Making"
event last Tuesday afternoon. The Century in the Making program, is an
opportunity for the public to vote for the top 100 greatest moments in the history of
football. A panel of current and retired sports journalists in the area put together
the 250 items on the ballot, broken down by high school, college, pros and “great
moments and unforgettable achievements." Votes can be cast online at
David O'Brien, son of Davey O'Brien, and Tim Brown

WOODROW TO HOST
HIGH SCHOOL REDESIGN SHOWCASE
A major component of Dallas Achieves! is providing parents with a choice when it comes to selecting their child’s secondary
school. Career pathways will be offered at nine redesigned high schools to eighth-graders who will enter the ninth grade in
the 2010-2011 school year.

The career pathways are open to all current eighth-graders and have no academic requirements. If a student is accepted into
one of the career pathways, that school will become the student’s new home school. Because of a limited number of spaces at
each school, acceptance will be determined through a lottery. The district will not provide transportation for students who
are accepted. More information on the participating schools and the career pathways offered will be available in January
2010.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR

"FINANCIAL AID FOR THE FUTURE" AT SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL
The Dallas Regional Chamber and Dallas ISD are partnering to provide a service to the community
entitled, "Financial Aid for the Future". Our purpose is to assist senior students and their parents in
completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so they can apply to college. We
need community volunteers to assist in this completion process. Volunteers must attend one of the
trainings February 20 at 11am-1pm (lunch provided) at the Bill J. Priest Center. Some volunteers will
work registration and show people to their rooms--you can volunteer and not actually be working on
the FAFSA--though you still must attend the training.

Please call Susan Odeski ASAP if you can help at 972.502.4420 or email her at sodeski@dallasisd.org
