SMALL GROUP WORKSHOPS ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS: Term 2

Examples of previous workshops include: thesis proposal writing, paraphrasing, selecting and remembering vocabulary, the language of CVs. There are 15 places for each
workshop so booking is essential. Information on the topics and how to book is provided on CANVAS.

Free individual help and advice all year round

You can book a 30 minute individual tutorial with a member of EISU staff. The aim is to teach and advise you so that you can improve your spoken or written English. Bring
something that you are currently working on, eg 2/3 pages from your essay, dissertation or thesis. We can look at grammar, vocabulary, academic style, organisation, etc.
This is a very popular service so please:
book at least 2 weeks in advance
tell us if you cannot attend so that another student can have your place
remember that our aim is to teach you skills rather than correct your work
Contact: Angela a.stewart@bham.ac.uk or Saroj s.watton@bham.ac.uk 0121 414 7150 or visit the EISU office, Priorsfield, Edgbaston Park Road (G18 on the campus map)

CANVAS

On Canvas you will find more information about the support EISU offer https://birmingham.instructure.com/enroll/DMTTY3 This includes the hand-outs for EISU
open access classes which you should download and print and bring to the classes you attend or can look at if you are not able to attend the English classes.
You will also find extra self-study materials on Canvas.
Email Service: Term 2
Are you puzzled about an aspect of English language or culture that you would like someone to explain to you? Email your question to us on
eisuquickq@contacts.bham.ac.uk
This answer service is for short, specific, non-urgent queries where we can provide a short answer and/or send a hand-out. You can also ask us about resource
recommendations for study skills, academic writing, etc.
Examples:

Why can I write: I am considering it but not I am liking it?

What is wrong with this sentence: The articles were written by Lawson give us a better insight into this.?
Is they have immensely researched a correct combination?

This service runs term-time only, in terms 1 and 2. The time taken to reply will depend on availability of staff.
If you are not sure whether your question can be answered quickly, please make a half an hour appointment to see a tutor instead (see above for info).
