BODY AND MIND

Whether consciously aware or not, as a human being, each of us experiences body-mind

connection every day.

According to Greene and Goodrich-Dunn (2001), mind and body

are both inter-connected to each other. They further explained that whatever goes on in the
mind is reflected in the mind, vice versa and the system will go on until the end of our life.
Several guidelines are proposed in order to achieve a healthier body and mind. It
goes back to the old saying: We are what we eat. As stated by Perry (2013), our nutritional
intake is somehow affecting the body systems, which both positive and negative terms are
counted in. Based on the recent evidence, Mental Health Foundation (2013) suggested that
good nutrition is vital for our mental health. It is also believed that the food we consumed daily
plays an important role in the development, management and prevention of specific
mental illness including depression, schizophrenia and Alzheimer. A balance mood and
feelings of wellbeing can be protected by ensuring that we take the best nutritious food
for our body that consist adequate amount of carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, essential fats
and of course lot of plain water.
Another way to improve body and mind health is to do physical exercises
regularly. Previous study on the association between physical exercise and psychological
wellbeing done in Finland suggested that those who exercised frequently in a week
experienced less depression, anger, cynical distrust and stress in a significantly manner
than those who do not (Hassmen, Koivula and Uutela, 2000). Another interesting yet
important finding done by Moore, et al
(2012) showed that people who engaged in leisure time physical activities regularly had
a potential to gain his or her life longevity by as much as 4.5 years. This study was done on
65
0000 adults which mostly with the age of 40 and above in order to evaluate various aspect of
cancer risks. The similar findings derived from Reynolds (2012) article on How Exercise
could lead to a Better Brain. Based on the research done by a group of researchers from
Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Illinois revealed that
with only a simple walking activity, a person have a chance to regain two years or more
of hippocampal youth.

Managing our stress effectively and efficiently will lead happier and healthier lives
especially for our mental health. Even though one might seen some stress as a positive trigger in
their life but majority seen it in other way.Several ways to keep stress at bay is creating
a healthy relationship with other people. This can be applied to family and friends. When you
are feeling the effect of stress, remember that you are not alone. Share your feelings,
thoughts or even problems with the close one, be it family, friend or even colleague. A
daily dose of friendship is after all an extraordinary medicine to reduce the stress level
(American Heart Association, 2011). Another effective way to control our stress level is to
get enough rest and sleep (McCulloh, 2013; Smith & Segal, 2013; Katz, 2012). With an
adequate sleep, it will helps our body to recover from stressful event and fuels up our mind as
well as our body to the rational condition.
It is very important for us to keep on track our body and mind health conditions every
day. Ignorance of this matter will somehow lead to another severe phase of your life. You only
have one body so it is very important to keep it at the best shape possible.
