NEGATION. Butuanon has three ways of saying no or of negating. This
depends on the ASPECT of the verb, whether the type of action is either
begun or not begun, a request or a command. When the action expressed is
action-not-begun, the negation is Dii and the verbs take the action-notbegun affixes. DII is placed before the verb.
Examples: Dii magluto si Dondon hong isda.
Dondon will not cook fish.
Dii bil-on ni Aivin ang awto mo.
Alvin will not buy your car.
Dii silhigan ni Hudet ang kwarto.
Hudet will not sweep the room.
Dii isalibay hong bata ang basura.
The child will not throw away the
trash.DII attracts the pronouns, meaning, the pronouns are placed before
the verbs after dii.
Examples: Dii ako mokadto ngadto Cebu. I am not going to Cebu.
Dii niya basahon ang libro. He wont read the book.
Dii ko siya hatagan hong kawdaa. I wont give him money.
Dii namo ibilin ang lapis. We wont leave the pencil behind.
DII also attracts the particles.
Examples:
Dii ba nimo siya hatagan hong kawdaa? Are you not going to give him
money? Dii na ba kita magpiknik? Are we not going on a picnic anymore?
DII of course negates NOUNS, PRONOUNS, and ADJECTIVES when these
are the things asked.
Examples:
Si Timi ba ang bil-an nimo hong libro?
Is it Timi for whom you will buy a book?
Dii si Timi ang bil-an nako hong libro.
It is not Timi for whom I will buy a book?
Siya ba ang mokadto ngadto Cebu?
Is he the one going to Cebu?
Dii siya ang mokadto ngadto Cebu.
Its not he who is going to Cebu.
Patsada ba ang gakanta?
Is the one singing beautiful?
Dii patsada ang gakanta.
The one singing is not beautiful.
The other negators used with verbs are waa for action-begun and ayaw for
command or request. These two will be discussed later in more details.

following English opinion essay into Butuanon:
In Asia, the idea of a national language was first enforced by China,
which designated Mandarin as a national language, just before the
Philippines did. After one or two generations the effects had
become quite obvious. Mandarin speakers acquired an elevated
social status compared to Chinas non-Mandarin speakers, affecting
a kind of legalized discrimination against Chinese peoples that did
not speak Mandarin. Recently China has tried to correct this by
treating its non-Mandarin languages as official in their native
regions.
Nevertheless all this was not known then in other countries. In
1935, following the Chinese example, the Con-con of the Philippines
designated Filipino as the national language. Government funds
collected from all provinces of the Philippines were to be used in
