Shabbat and the Return

The Connection Between the Shabbat, the Judgment,
and the True Repentance that Brings a Return to hwhy
by Craig Wm. Peters

Come, and let us return unto hwhy: for He has torn, and He will heal us;
He has smitten, and He will bind us up. 2 After two days He will revive us:
in the third day, He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight. 3 Then we
will know; we will follow on to know hwhy: His going forth is prepared
as the morning; and He will come to us like the rain:
as the latter and former rain to the earth.
Hoshea/Hosea 6:1-3

a This study is about the profound and light-filled Shabbat of hwhy; across the
pages of this meditation, we pray readers will find direct information about the
ever-increasing meaning and importance of the Seventh Day. This work will also
show how the Set Apart Time of Shabbat relates to the obedience of the faith1 for
New Covenant believers. One would think such a Daya Day which is set apart
to meet with hwhy and to walk in His lightwould be embraced by all those who
believe in the inspiration of Scripture. Yet this is not the case. Even Yisrael of old
failed to appreciate the awesome Light and Presence of hwhy which He has forever
placed within His Shabbat. Yet when Yisrael turned away from hwhy, He turned
away from them.2 The record shows their profaning of the Shabbat was a major
reason cited by hwhy for delivering the nation over to judgment and captivity. And
the only thing which would result in their return to the Land was their authentic
return to hwhy: what we call repentance.3

In Hebrew thought, repentance is turning towards Elohimreturning back to Him

with all ones heart and nephesh/being.4 For decades, even centuries, sincere
ministers of the Word have preached repentance toward Elohim. During His brief
time on the earth, the Mashiach (Messiah) taught people will die in their sins apart
from true and full repentance;5 and the writer to the Hebrews was clear that
repentance toward Elohim was absolutely foundational to being in a proper

relationship with the Almighty.6 In the opening text (above), we see the words of
hwhy given through the prophet Hoshea; and this prophecy shows a true return, a
true repentance, will bring forth the Latter Rain of the Ruach/Spirit.7 This study
presents an amazing connection between true repentance and upholding the
Shabbat. The prophesied Latter Rain will be an authentic outpouring of the Spirit,
and when it occurs, the recipients will be the people of hwhy who are returning to
Him with a whole heart by upholding the Seventh Day.
The Shabbat of hwhy is the Seventh Daythe Day that memorializes the Six Days
of Creation.8 In the increase of the Messiahs Government,9 the Shabbat later
came to be a celebration of Yisraels rest via our forefathers deliverance from
bondage in Egypt.10 Yisrael of old was delivered from bondage and brought into
the Land of Canaan to fulfill the promise of hwhy to the three patriarchs
Abraham, Yistchak/Isaac, and Yaacov/Jacob. So in addition to memorializing
Creation, observing the Seventh Day had now taken on still more meaning and
importance:
Keeping Shabbat became part of recognizing our
deliverance from Egpyta lawless and bondage-inducing
nation which (for New Covenant believers) was/is analogous
to the bondage thrust upon mankind by sin and the world.
The death and resurrection of the Messiahand the power of the Spirit He now
givesreleases us from such bondage.11
Under the leadership of Mosheh, Aharon, and Yehoshua, our forefathers were
directed to uphold the Shabbat as a key element of walking in the footsteps of
Abraham, Yistchak, and Yaacovmen who upheld the Torah and who clearly
observed the Seventh Day.12 Upon being freed from Egypt, Yisrael was early
warned by hwhy and His prophets that, should they turn away from Him and
forsake the Shabbatif they began walking in continual disobedience to the
Torahthey would most certainly be carried away into captivity. Violating the
Shabbat would result in Yisrael being banished from the Land of Promise. Since
the Land had been promised to those who did obey (Abraham, Yistchak, and

Yaacov), it could also be justly taken from those unfaithful descendants who
rejected the obedience which had already been seen and established in their
forefathers. The Shabbat was, is, and always will be pivotal to the authentic
obedience that emanates from a love-driven belief.13
So after long ignoring the warnings of Isaiah and Jeremiah to turn their feet from
profaning the Shabbat, a terrible judgment of wrath and carnage eventually came
upon Yisrael of old: We will visit and consider those prophetic warnings
warnings which made it clear that Shabbat observance is not optional for those
who worship the Elohim of Yisrael, even in the New Covenant Era. Beyond the
terrible carnage that came upon our nation in that ancient time of the prophets,
many were carried away into distant lands as captives who would never return.
Multitudes of others were delivered into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of
Babel/Babylon, and they were punished with a 70-year captivity in said foreign
country. What is revealed to us through the events surrounding the return to hwhy
(and to the Land) at the end of those seventy years? And what is the connection
between Yisrael profaning the Shabbat and the shame of face which Daniel said
had, thus, come upon the nation? And even after many of these Babylonian
captives were allowed to return to Eretz Yisrael, the Land of Promise, what did
Nehemiah warn the inhabitants of Jerusalem about profaning the Shabbat and the
wrath of hwhy which could still overtake them? And how does all of this apply to
following the Messiah and worshipping hwhy as the Creator in our days?
Accompanied by direct statements of Scripture, this study incorporates the use of
the inspired, Hebrew letters, words, and numbers to draw many relevant
conclusions which we pray will edify those who are seeking to obtain a reward and
an inheritance in the Millennial Kingdom. The Shabbat will be a deciding and
pivotal factor between believers who will overcome sin and the world (believers
who will inherit the Kingdom), and believers who will suffer the loss of reward,
failing to enter with splendor and honor, and failing to be accounted worthy14 to
attain to the Great Rewardthe resurrection of the body in the First Resurrection.

religious pomp of the scribes and Pharisees in the days of the Messiah.

The Forefathers Kept Shabbat

The Land of Yisrael was promised to our forefathers because of their obedience.15
Abraham, Yistchak, and Yaacov upheld the Torah, and clear evidence indicates
they kept the Seventh Day Shabbat.16 So much so, that many centuries later, hwhy
held forth a conditional promise to Yisrael that they, too, would ride on the high
places of the earth, if they upheld the Shabbat; Yisrael was promised the same
reward which hwhy had given to Yaacov for his obedience in honoring the set
apart Shabbat:
13 If you will turn away your foot from the Shabbat, from doing
your pleasure on My set apart day; and call the Shabbat a
delight, the set apart of hwhy, honorable; and will honor Him,
not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor
speaking words: 14 Then you will delight yourself in hwhy; and I
will cause you to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed
you with the heritage of Yaacov your father: for the mouth of
hwhy has spoken. Isaiah 58:13-14
This Scripture tells us the heritage of Yaacov (a promise to inherit the Land17)
came upon him because of his reverence for the Presence/Spirit of hwhy within the
Seventh Day. For it is by His Presencethe Indwelling of His Spirit that fills the
Daythat Elohim has forever set apart the Shabbat. Abraham, Yitschak, and
Yaacov honored hwhy by upholding the Shabbat. And this better explains the
punishment that hwhy brought upon Yisrael for profaning the Light of His Presence
which He has permanently placed in the Seventh Day. The disobedience that
caused Yisrael to be cast out of the Land also defines the obedience that resulted in
Abraham, Yitschak, and Yaacov being promised this Perpetual Possession in the
first place. Conversely, we may also say the following:
If the Land had been promised to the forefathers because
of their obedience18obedience which is shown to have included
their upholding of the Shabbatthen the disobedience of their descendants
over the Seventh Day required hwhy to expel Yisrael in their staunch
refusal to guard the sanctity of this Set Apart Time.
Said differently, it would be senseless and unjust to promise the Land to Abraham,
Yistchak, and Yaacov for their upholding of the Torah and the Shabbat,19 and then

to allow Yisrael20 to remain there, even though they were walking in abject
disobedience to those very Teachings. Yisrael remaining in the Land was
conditional,21 and that blessing was based on their obediencecentral to which
was the nation guarding the sanctity of the Seventh Day. When lawlessness
overran the country, the multitudes of Yisrael were carried off into captivity.22
Considering more about the walk of the patriarchs, Yaacov not only kept the
Shabbat, but the record shows he did so because he had been instructed in the truth
of the matter by his fathers, Abraham and Yitschak. For hwhy had said this about
Abraham commanding his sons and his household after him:
17 And hwhy said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I
do; 18 seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and
mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in
him? 19 For I know him, that he will command his children and
his household after him, and they will keep the way of hwhy, to
do righteousness and judgment; that hwhy may bring upon
Abraham that which He has spoken of him. Genesis 18:17-19
Seeking Elohim for the favor and wisdom to teach his children the way of hwhy is
what made Abraham a truly great man. And the Word of hwhy through Isaiah
(seen above) tells us Yaacov was greatly blessed for upholding the Shabbat; yet
this third generation patriarch could not have done so unless he had been properly
taught by his forbears of the previous two generations. And Elohim had clearly
spoken:
hwhy knew Abraham would
teach his children after him.
But if Abraham upheld the Shabbat (and he did), the implications are inescapable
for New Covenant believers:
Shaul wrote those who are of the faith of Abraham
are heirs according to the promise.23 If the faith of Abraham
led him to learn of hwhy and to uphold the Shabbat,24 then
all who hope to enter the Kingdom with reward
and inheritance must do likewise.

This means Shabbat observance is incumbent upon all those who (as the Messiah
said) do the works of Abraham.25 Shabbat observance is essential for all those who
believe in the Seed of Abraham, the Mashiach (Messiah); it is a key element of
walking in the light as He is in the light.26
eSwhy tells us no portion of the Torah or the Prophets will fail across the great
expanse of human history,27 so the Shabbat is a perpetual ordinance that will
remain in place to bless all nations across all eons of time to a Thousand
Generations.28 And the Spirit gives us a weighty and instructive connection
between the Qadosh Name (hwhy), the Shabbat (tbS), and Adam (Mda):
The Last Adam,29 the Messiah, declared Himself
to be the Sovereign Ruler over the Shabbat,30 and
He was hwhy in the form of man/Adam.31
It is remarkable to see the Hebrew misparim/numbers connect Adam/man with the
Shabbat, and even with hwhy Himself. Using the various Hebrew numbering
systems,32 the Name of hwhy, the word Shabbat/tbS, and the word
Adam/Mda, may all be shown to have an equivalency of 45:
The misparim value33 of Adam is 45:

(pv)

45 = (40) M + (4) d + (1) a = Mda/Adam/man

The place value (pv) of Shabbat is 45:

(pv)

45 = (22) t + (2) b + (21) S = tbS/Shabbat/Sabbath

And the place value milui (pvm) of hwhy, the Qadosh Name, also equals 45: 34

(pvm) 45

= (6) h + (13) w + (6) h + (20) y = hwhy/YHWH

26

Words with the same number values may invariably be shown to be connected in a
significant, inspired, and often instructive and edifying relationship. So when hwhy
(45) became a Man/Adam (45), He fully identified with the Shabbat (45)the
Sanctuary in Time which He Himself had created35 for all peoples to walk in the
fullness of His Light. While very few seem to realize this, the Presence of hwhy is
absolutely the greatest human need. (Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for
His awesome Presence.) And because He has placed the Light of His
Spirit/Presence within the Seventh Day, making Himself that much more available,
we are able to seek and find Him yet more and more at this Special Time. Because
the Shabbat is filled with His Presence (mans greatest need!), eSwhy the Messiah
could say:
The Shabbat was made for man/Adam,
and not man for the Shabbat; so that the Son of
Adam is Sovereign even of the Shabbat.
Mark 2:27
The Messiah is Sovereign over all that He created. So instead of abolishing the
Shabbat, these words of the unchanging Mashiach/Messiah36 tell us He will remain
the Sovereign over the Shabbat for all eons of time. Thus, the Shabbat is not
optional and, as this study progresses, we will see clear and direct evidence that
Yisrael was severely punished and expelled from the Land of Promise for their
continued disobedience surrounding the Seventh Day. Of equal importance, we
will ponder the amazing evidence that hwhy has placed the Light of His Presence
within the Seventh Day; so that those who uphold Shabbat obtain exceedingly
more light from His Word; and their understanding of His ways grows far beyond
what they would have otherwise attained to in this lifetime. While we can study
and obtain revelation in the Spirit any day of the week, the Light of hwhy shines on
His Word ever more brightly within the Seventh Day; and the result is as the
psalmist has spoken:
For with You is the fountain of life:
in Your light we will see light.
Tehillim/Psalm 36:9
We wonder that there is any believer who would want to ignore this light and, thus,
fail to receive the immense blessings of hwhy that accompany resting for a Day in
His radiant splendor, gaining a richer and fuller insight into His Word, and
obtaining the much needed physical rest which energizes us to excel in the coming
work week.

Yisrael was Delivered From Bondage to Uphold the Shabbat

The Shabbat of hwhy is the Seventh Day, the Day that memorializes the Six Days
of Creation.37 Yet we are told Of the increase of His Government and of peace,
there shall be no end.38 Such is the case with all of His ways:
As the ages unfold, the plans and purposes of hwhy reveal
the prophetic Torah growing into something which emanates
forth with yet more and more of His Name and greatness.
Though originally a Memorial of Creation (and so it remains), the Shabbat later
came to be a celebration of Yisraels rest via our forefathers deliverance from
Egyptian bondage:
12 Observe the Shabbat Day, to keep it qadosh, as hwhy your
Elohim commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor, and do all
your work; 14 but the Seventh Day is a Shabbat to hwhy your
Elohim: you shall not do any work: you, nor your son, nor your
daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor
your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your
stranger that is within your gates; that your man servant and
your maid servant may rest as well as you. 15 And you shall
remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and hwhy
your Elohim brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by
an outstretched arm: therefore hwhy your Elohim commanded
you to guard the Shabbat Day. Debarim/Deuteronomy 5:12-15
Yisrael of old was delivered from bondage and brought into the Land of Canaan to
fulfill the promise of hwhy to the three patriarchsAbraham, Yistchak/Isaac, and
Yaacov/Jacob. The Shabbat is a Day of rest and further symbolizes the rest we
have in Him, from Him, and because of Him. Now freed from bondage, Elohim
enjoined Yisrael to uphold the Seventh Day as a token of our deliverance from
bondage; Shabbat signifies the rest which had been given to us from the Hand of
hwhy. Entering/inheriting the Land of Yisrael was even called a Rest by hwhy.39
So it is fitting that the Shabbat would further be/become a remembrance of
deliverance from Egypt into the Rest we had/have/will have in the Land of
Inheritance. In addition to memorializing Creation, keeping Shabbat has become
part of recognizing our deliverance from Egpyt and into Rest. And for New
Covenant believers, Egypt represents a lawless, bondage-inducing nation which
was/is analogous to the bondage thrust upon us by sin and the world. The death

and resurrection of the Messiahand the power of the Spirit He now gives
releases us from such bondage and gives us rest from sin.40 So the meaning and
significance of the Seventh Dayand the rest therein celebratedhas only grown
since the beginning.41 But this could not be the case if the Shabbat has been
done away with (as is erroneously taught in these modern times). Of the
increase of His Government and of peace, there shall be no end.42 This is
manifestly the case with the Shabbat as the Kingdom of hwhy surrounding
observance of the Seventh Day has only grown in its richness and prophetic
meaning/import.

The Solemn Warnings: Profaning the Shabbat Would Lead to Expulsion

We arrive at the place in our discourse where we must ponder the warnings of the
prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah. These are warnings which they spoke to all Yisrael
concerning the Shabbat. These prophetic warnings were stern and somber
becauseif they were to go unheededthe resulting judgments would be severe,
long-lasting, and staggering in their scope and finality.
We begin with the prophet Yeshayahu / Isaiah and the teachings recorded in the
book that bears his name. Through Yeshayahu, hwhy rebuked Yisrael for acting
like a nation that had done righteousness, all the while they were rejecting His
Shabbat ordinance:
1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up your voice like a trumpet, and
declare unto My people their transgression, and to the house of
Yaacov their sins. 2 Yet they seek Me daily, and delight to know
my ways: as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the
ordinance of their Elohim: they ask of Me righteous judgments;
they delight to draw near to Elohim. Yeshayahu / Isaiah 58:1-2
hwhy tells Isaiah to rebuke Yisrael for acting like a nation who had done
righteousness, even though they had forsaken the ordinance of Elohim. But what
ordinance had they forsaken? The context shows the ordinance Yisrael had
forsaken was that of the Shabbat (and that this forsaking of the Seventh Day led to
further darkness43 and complete apostasy44). As long as they were walking in
darkness against the Shabbat, their fasting was of no avail45 because they were not

truly seeking hwhy.46 Becoming a restorer of the paths to dwell in,47 being a light
to all the nations,48 required showing compassion to the poor49 and honoring the
Shabbat of hwhy:
13 If you will turn away your foot from the Shabbat, from doing
your pleasure on My set apart day; and call the Shabbat a
delight, the set apart of hwhy, honorable; and will honor Him,
not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor
speaking words: 14 Then you will delight yourself in hwhy; and I
will cause you to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed
you with the heritage of Yaacov your father: for the mouth of
hwhy has spoken. Isaiah 58:13-14
The teachings of Isaiah make it clear that Shabbat is an age-enduring ordinance;
because the Seventh Day is a part of Creation itself,50 it will remain a permanent
fixture in the Kingdom of hwhy. Thus, we are not surprised to see the Shabbat will
still be in force, even after the new heavens and the new earth emerge from the fire
of hwhy that He will use to purge and renew51 all that has been defiled and polluted
from mans sin and rebellion:52
22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make,
shall remain before Me, says hwhy, so shall your seed and your
name remain. 23 And it will come to pass, that from one new
moon to another, and from one Shabbat to another, shall all flesh
come to worship before Me, says hwhy. 24 And they shall go
forth, and look upon the dead bodies of the men that have
transgressed against Me: for their worm shall not die, neither
shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring to all
flesh. Isaiah 66:22-24

This was, and remains, the Elohim-given mission of Yisrael: Deuteronomy 4:6-7, Psalm 67:1-2, 6-7. hwhy did
not merely exalt Yisrael to be the head over all nations simply so they could bask in their preeminence
(Deuteronomy 26:17-19, 28:1-2; 1Chronicles 14:17, 2Chronicles 32:20-23); His intent was/is to shine His splendor
upon Yisrael and to use their example to bless all nations (Genesis 18:18, 22:18, 26:4, 1Kings 4:30-34, Psalm 86:9)

This long-range prophecy tells us the Shabbat is, has been, and always will be the

Light of Eternity placed within finite time.

We have pondered significant portions of the Word of hwhy through Isaiah

regarding the Shabbat; what about the prophet Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah? Yirmeyahu
was instructed to warn all Yahudah/Judah over the consequences of ignoring the
Shabbatthe Day that had been established from the beginning, being written by
hwhy into the very fabric of Creation. This warning came with a promise of
blessings, if Yisrael upheld the Shabbat, and with the dread of impending
judgment, if the Set Apart Day was ignored:
19 Thus said hwhy to me: Go, and stand in the gate of the
children of the people, whereby the kings of Yahudah come in,
and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Yerushalayim /
Jerusalem; 20 and say to them, Hear the word of hwhy, you
kings of Yahudah, and all Yahudah, and all the inhabitants of
Yerushalayim, that enter in by these gates: 21 Thus says hwhy,
Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the Shabbat day,
nor bring it in by the gates of Yerushalayim; 22 neither carry
forth a burden out of your houses on the Shabbat day, neither do
any work: but set apart the Shabbat day, as I commanded your
fathers. 23 But they hearkened not, neither inclined their ear, but
made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, and might not
receive instruction. 24 And it will come to pass, if you diligently
hearken to Me, says hwhy, to bring in no burden through the
gates of this city on the Shabbat day, but to set apart the Shabbat
day, to do no work therein; 25 then shall there enter in by the
gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of
David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes,
the men of Yahudah, and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim; and
this city shall remain for ever. 26 And they shall come from the
cities of Yahudah, and from the places round about
Yerushalayim, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the
lowland, and from the hillcountry, and from the South, bringing
burntofferings, and sacrifices, and mealofferings, and
frankincense, and bringing thanksgiving to the house of hwhy. 27
But if you will not hearken to Me to set apart the Shabbat day,

53

(from the beginning, Genesis 1:14)

11

and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of

Yerushalayim on the Shabbat day; then I will kindle a fire in the
gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Yerushalayim,
and it shall not be quenched. Jeremiah 17:19-27
Many centuries earlier, hwhy had warned Yisrael not to kindle a fire on the
Shabbat.54 This commandment to be far more than merely literal, as there are
many other fires that people kindle on this Day: fires of idolatry/false worship,55
fires of anger,56 fires of lust,57 and fires of greed/covetousness.58 And in the
warning which hwhy spoke through Yirmeyahu, He was effectively saying to the
nation that, should Yisrael continue to profane the Shabbat, kindling a fire of
idolatry by refusing to guard the sanctity of the Day, then He would kindle a fire of
judgment that would decimate the city and the Land. Yisrael went onward, failing
to heed the warnings of Yirmeyahu.
So after long ignoring the warnings of all the prophets,59 warnings that they should
turn their feet from profaning the Shabbat, a terrible judgment of wrath and
carnage eventually came upon Yisrael of old. Beyond the terrible massacre that
came upon our nation, many were carried away captive never to return.60
Multitudes of others were delivered into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of
Babel/Babylon, and they were punished with a 70-year captivity in that foreign
land. hwhy did not take lightly the profaning of the Shabbat, and when His
judgment at long last fell, it was swift, severe, and of long continuance.
We now proceed to ponder what is revealed to us through the events that
surrounding the repentance/return that hwhy required before He could return
Yisrael to the Land. In particular, we will study the account of Daniela prophet

Profaning Shabbat Leads to Punishment, Captivity, Defeat, and Shame

Daniel begins his prophecies by showing it was the sovereignty of hwhy that had
delivered Yisrael into the hand of King Nebuchadnezzar:
1 In the third year of the reign of Yehoiakim, king of Yahudah,
Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came to Yerushalayim, and
besieged it. 2 And the Sovereign gave Yehoiakim, king of
Yahudah, into his hand, with part of the vessels of the House of
Elohim; and he carried them into the land of Shinar, to the house
of his god: and he brought the vessels into the treasurehouse of
his god. Daniel 1:1-2
This is a great and needful lesson in our own days, as it can often appear that hwhy
is detached from who becomes king, or who wins an election (at any level).
Besides what is seen just above, many other places in the account of Daniel show
us the Sovereign Hand of the Ultimate King wields sway over all things, even over
world rulers who are little more than carnal, unjust, and power-hungry murderers.61
Of this fact, we must be strongly assured in these Last Days since wars have been
determined: Warring rulers and their minions will bring much judgment from on
High and militant armies will surely claim what looks to be millions of lives.62
While it is not within the scope of this study to ponder the historical details, across
many years, Daniel was exalted to a position of great authority in this heathen
nation of Babel/Babylon. And the prophet even remained in power when the kings
he served were deposed. hwhy had exalted Daniel for a purpose, and he used his
power (and freedom) for the ultimate good:
It is a riveting account when we consider
that, somehow, Daniel had access to the Hebrew
scrolls of Yirmeyahu, the prophet Jeremiah.
When we understand Daniels perspective on the prophecies of Jeremiah, we are
also blessed to better understand the connection between many things:
Seeking the Face of Elohim by prayer and fasting;
true/authentic repentance; the circumcision/humbling
of heart Elohim requires to bring about a return
to hwhy (and subsequently a return to the Land).

Daniel 4:17, 25, 32, 5:21. Many historical rulers may be cited in this regards: Nebuchadnezzar, Nero, Hitler, and
many others who have operated in the realm of opposition to hwhy and His Messiah

13

One of my favorite Scriptures is seen in the lines of Jeremiah 29:13. It is suspected

that many others have also found this magnificent promise to be a great blessing of
personal edification whenever it is read, or pondered, during times of prayer and
meditation:
And you shall seek Me, and find Me, when you
shall search for Me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13
Even when seen outside of its fullest context (as it is shown above), this is a very
moving and powerful promise. Yet it becomes even more meaningful when we
behold the setting over which this Scripture speaks and the occasions in Yisraels
history over which this text is prophetic. Many centuries earlier, hwhy had foretold
of Yisraels captivity in Babylon, and He had clearly indicated in the Torah what
would be required to bring an end to that bondage:
26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that
you shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto you
pass over the Yarden63 to possess: you shall not prolong your
days on it, but shall be utterly destroyed. 27 And hwhy will
scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left a small
company among the nations to which hwhy will lead you. 28 And
there you shall serve elohim, the work of mens hands, wood and
stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. 29 And
from there you shall seek hwhy your Elohim, and you shall find
Him, if you shall seek Him with your whole heart, and with
your whole being. Deuteronomy 4:26-29
The context here is captivity-related, and the tenor in the last part of this text
sounds very similar to the Word of hwhy which He would later speak through the
prophet Jeremiah (29:13). To be released from captivityand to be restored to the
Land of Promisesomeone in Yisrael would have to seek hwhy with his/her whole
heart. Yet we need to know the particulars of what constitutes such wholehearted
seeking. When we see the context surrounding that later promise of deliverance
(the promise given through Jeremiah), it is apparent that this is also related to
Yisrael seeking and finding hwhy while still in captivity. And what was the
promised result? They would be delivered from bondage and they would further
procure a return to the Land of Yisrael:

63

(translated Jordan)
14

4 Thus says hwhy of hosts, the Elohim of Yisrael, to all the

captivity whom I have caused to be carried away from
Yerushalayim to Babel: 5 Build houses, and dwell in them, and
plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them. 6 Take wives, and beget
sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your
daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters;
and multiply there, and be not diminished. 7 And seek the peace
of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive,
and pray to hwhy for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have
peace. 8 For thus says hwhy of Hosts, the Elohim of Yisrael: Let
not your prophets that are in your midst, nor your diviners
deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams, which you like to
dream. 9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in My Name: I have
not sent them, says hwhy. 10 For thus says hwhy: When seventy
years shall be accomplished for Babel, I will visit you, and
perform My good word toward you, in bringing you back to this
place. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says
hwhy, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you in your latter
end a hope. 12 And you shall call upon Me, and you shall go and
pray to Me, and I will hearken to you; 13 and you shall seek Me
and find me, when you shall search for Me with all your heart,
14 and I will be found of you, says hwhy. And I will turn your
captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all
the places where I have driven you, says hwhy; and I will bring
you again into the place from where I have caused you to be
carried away captive. Jeremiah 29:4-14
So the full context of the promise to seek and find hwhy related to Yisrael being
delivered from captivity and returned to the Land of Promise. An authentic return
to hwhy also brought a return to the Land. In still another place, hwhy said He
would first require Yisraels proud, uncircumcised hearts to be humbled before our
nations captivity would end and a return to the Land could occur:
38 And you shall perish among the nations, and the land of your
enemies shall eat you up. 39 And they that are left of you shall
pine away in their iniquity in your enemies lands; and also in
the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them. 40
And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their
fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and
also that, because they walked contrary to Me, 41 I also walked
contrary to them, and brought them into the land of their

15

enemies. If, then, their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and

they then accept the punishment of their iniquity; 42 then I will
remember My covenant with Yaacov; and also My covenant
with Yitzchak, and also My covenant with Abraham I will
remember; and I will remember the Land. Leviticus 26:38-42
In another study, we pondered many issues surrounding the relationship between
fasting, prayer, and possessing/maintaining a circumcised hearta heart that is
humble before hwhy Most High. Yet more confirmation over this matter was
recently revealed in the Spirit. The record indicates that approved men of faith
would sometimes rend their garments at the outset of a time set apart for fasting,
prayer, and humility.64 This rending of the garment was an outward sign of what
hwhy desires to see inwardly:65 the rending of ones heart before Him. Elohim
spoke of this humility through the prophet Yoel/Joel:
12 Yet even now, says hwhy, return you unto Me with all your
heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
13 and rend your heart (Mkbbl werqw), and not your
garments, and return to hwhy your Elohim; for He is gracious
and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in chesed/kindness,
and He repents of the evil. Joel 2:12-13
We will consider more about the phrase And rend your heart, momentarily. But
first, some of the Hebrew numbers around the word lwm/mol/circumcise(-d) are
established:

(pv) 31

= (12) l + (6) w + (13) m = lwm = mol = circumcise(-d)

(mv) 76

= (30) l + (6) w + (40) m = lwm = mol = circumcise(-d)

========

(fv) 107
Presently, we will only consider the full value (fv) of lwm/mol/circumcise(-d): the
number 107. In a previous study, we saw how this value of 107 related Psalm 107
to circumcision of heart and BOOK FIVE, the Debarim, or Deuteronomy Book of
Tehillm/Psalms.66 Many proofs show that an uncircumcised heart is proud and
lifted up while a circumcised heart is continually humbled before the Almighty.

This is what the apostle Kepha/Peter meant when he wrote of humbling ourselves
under the mighty Hand of Elohim.67 That the humility of fasting and prayer are
critical to this aspect of True Worship becomes yet more evident when we study
the place value (pv) for the phrase And rend your heart:

Mkbbl werqw
lebav-kem
of your hearts

vkir-oo
And rend you

To fuel our awe and amazement before the Most High, this phrase has a place
value (pv) of 107a number identical to the full value of the word lwm / mol /
circumcise:

= Mkbbl werqw

67

= (6) w + (16) e + (20) r + (19) q + (6) w

40

= (13) M + (11) k + (2) b + (2) b + (12) l

=========

(pv) 107
Once more, Ruach haQodesh teaches us of the connection between a circumcised
heart and fasting-derived humility. This more clearly reveals what it means to
seek hwhy with the whole heart:
Another of the many spiritual
ironies in the Kingdom of Elohim is
that brokenness results in wholeness.
So the relationship between fasting, humility, and seeking hwhy with a whole,
circumcised heart is only confirmed by this marvelously inspired number
connection. Blessed be His Name.
s r q u p e o n m l k y j x z w h d g b a

Yet all of these things are of such great significance because it was the prophet
Daniel who fulfilled the requirements seen in the above Scriptures: it was his heart
that was humbled and circumcised before hwhy by prayer and fasting; it was his
praying that confessed the punishment of captivity had come upon Yisrael because
of their disobedience. And hwhy was found of Daniel because the prophet met the
requirement of seeking the Most High with the whole heart:

1Peter 5:6

1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the
Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans, 2 in the
first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood by the books that the
number of the years, whereof the Word of hwhy came to Jeremiah the
prophet, for the accomplishment of the desolations of Yerushalayim,
was seventy years. 3 And I set my face to the Sovereign hwhy, to seek by
prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes; 4
and I prayed to hwhy my Elohim, and made my confession, and said,
Alas Sovereign! The great and awesome El, keeping covenant and
chesed/lovingkindness with those that love Him, and that keep His
commandments: 5 we have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and
have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even turning aside from Your
commandments and from Your ordinances. 6 And we have not
hearkened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your Name to
our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the

all the countries where You have driven them, because of their
unfaithfulness in which they have been unfaithful against You. 8

Psalm 95:6-11. The ministry-service of the prophets was to teach Yisrael to hear the Voice of hwhy, the Voice of
His Spirit revealed in the Torah (Psalm 95:6-11). And the record shows that the prophets of hwhy kept, taught, and
upheld all of the following: The Shabbat (Isaiah 52:6, 56:6, 58:1-13, 66:23-24, Jeremiah 17:19-27, Ezekiel 22:2326, Amos 8:4-7, Nehemiah 10:31), the Feasts (Nahum 1:15, Zechariah 14:16-19), the laws of clean and unclean
animal flesh (Isaiah 65:2-7, 66:3, Ezekiel 22:23-26), the Year of Release (Jeremiah 34:8-21, Nehemiah 10:31), and
other injunctions from the Ten Words/Commandments (Jeremiah 7:9-15, Hoshea 4:1-6). And the prophets
warned Yisrael of the evil that would come upon them for failing to obey the Voice of hwhy given through His
Torah. Jeremiah 17:19-27, Nehemiah 13:15-18

against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil; so
that there has not been done under the whole heaven as has been done
upon Yerushalayim. 13 As it is written in the Law of Mosheh, all this
evil has come upon us; yet we have not besought hwhy our Elohim, that
we might turn from our iniquities, and understand Your truth. 14 And
hwhy has watched over the evil, and brought it upon us; for hwhy our
Elohim is righteous in all His works which He has done; and we have
not hearkened to His Voice.71 15 And now, hwhy our Elohim, who
brought Your people forth out of the land of Egypt with a strong hand,
and has made You a Name, as it is this day, we have sinned, we have
done wickedly. 16 Sovereign, according to all Your righteousnesses, I
beseech Your, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your
city Yerushalayim, Your qadosh mountain; for because of our sins, and
because of the iniquities of our fathers, Yerushalayim and Your people
are a reproach to all around us. 17 And now, our Elohim, hearken to
the prayer of Your servant, and to his supplications, and cause Your
face to shine upon Your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Sovereigns
sake. 18 Incline Your ear, my Elohim, and hear; open Your eyes and
behold our desolations, and the city that is called by Your Name: for we
do not present our supplications before thee because of our
righteousnesses, but because of Your manifold mercies. 19 Sovereign,
hear; Sovereign, forgive; Sovereign, hearken and do! Defer not, for
Your own sake, my Elohim! For Your city and Your people are called
by Your Name. 20 And while I was speaking, and praying, and
confessing my sin and the sin of my people Yisrael, and presenting my
supplication before hwhy my Elohim for the qadosh mountain of my
Elohim; 21 while I was yet speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom
I had seen in the vision at the beginning, flying swiftly, touched me
about the time of the evening offering. 22 And he informed me, and
talked with me, and said, Daniel, I am now come forth to make you
skillful of understanding. 23 At the beginning of your supplications the
word went forth, and I am come to declare it; for you are greatly
beloved. Therefore consider the word, and have understanding in the
vision Daniel 9:1-23
hwhy had long-since stated His requirement that Yisrael would have to seek Him
with a whole heart before He would be moved to release them from captivity and

71

Psalm 95:6-11
19

to bring them back to the Land of Promise.72 So it is most noteworthy to see that
when Daniel sought hwhy with all his heart, he did so by prayer and fasting:
And I set my face to the Sovereign hwhy,
to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting,
and sackcloth, and ashes
Daniel 9:3
This gives us a much fuller and far more complete context for the Jeremiah 29:13
promisethat we would seek and find hwhy when doing so wholeheartedly.
Daniel fully understood this requirement from the Word of hwhy through the
prophet Jeremiah and we see his love-and-belief response. Daniels example
teaches us that to seek and find hwhy with a whole heart requires prayer with
Spirit-led times of fasting and humility. Anything less than humbling ourselves
before Elohim with prayer and fasting would not constitute seeking hwhy with a
whole heart (nor would it constitute what hwhy regards to be true humility). And
what it means to seek hwhy wholeheartedly is still so very relevant in our own
days, at this critical time in world history.
Given the infinite inspiration of the Hebrew Scriptures, we also believe that
Daniels prayer of repentance in Babel/Babylon not only connects the Shabbat with
the judgment of captivity, but it also relates it to the return (to return to hwhy and
then to the Land). In particular, Daniel spoke of the shame of face that belonged
to Yisrael because they had violated the Word of hwhy, and we will we give special
attention to at least one of the Hebrew words in that phrase:
4 And I prayed to hwhy my Elohim, and made confession, and
said, Adonai, the great and dreadful Elohim, who keeps covenant
and chesed with those that love Him and keep his
commandments: 5 We have sinned, and have dealt perversely,
and have done lawlessly, and have rebelled, even turning aside
from Your precepts and from Your ordinances; 6 neither have we
hearkened to Your servants the prophets, that spoke in Your
Name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the
people of the land. 7 hwhy, righteousness belongs to You, but to
us shame/tSb of face, as at this day; to the men of Yahudah,
and to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and to all Yisrael, that
are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither
thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have
trespassed against thee. 8 Adonai, to us belongs shame/tSb of

20

face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we

have sinned against You. 9 To hwhy our Elohim belong mercies
and forgiveness; for we have rebelled against Him; 10 neither
have we obeyed the voice of hwhy our Elohim, to walk in his
laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets. Daniel
9:4-10
We see the word tSb/boshet/shame (in verses 7 and 8 above) has the very same
letters as the word for tbS/Shabbat. Of course, the letters are not in the same
order, but the same three are used in both words. This same-letter connection
shows us these two words are quite relatedperhaps in many hidden ways as well
as in ways that are rather obvious. That these two words (tbS/Shabbat and
tSb/boshet/shame) are directly and immediately connected is obvious. For (as we
have seen) this was the exact warning given to all Yisrael by the prophets:
Continue profaning the Shabbat and
a terrible judgment of defeat and captivity would
soon follow. Blatantly violating tbS/Shabbat would
most assuredly lead to tSb/shame of face.
When Yisrael walked in the idolatry surrounding the violation of Shabbat, the
shame of captivity soon followed. hwhy had warned them that casting aside the
Shabbat would result in judgment and captivity. hwhy had promised Yisrael they
would be expelled from the Land, if they did not uphold the Shabbat (tbS); they
were subsequently expelled and bore their shame (tSb). And this is not merely an
issue that faced the forefathers in Yisrael many thousands of years ago:
Unless America repents of profaning
the Shabbat, this writer believes we, too, will
see an End-Time captivity73 that results in our nation being
judged with widespread carnage and an imposed bondage
that will subsequently carry away survivors
into the remotest regions of the earth.

Shabbat and the Return

The Spirit of hwhy has inspired the Hebrew letters to further establish/emphasize
the connection between the Shabbat and true repentancewhat it means to truly
return to hwhy. In Hebrew, the word for return is bwS / shuwb. This is the
word which means repent in Hebrew. bwS/shuwb/return is the word translated
as return in our opening text:
Come, and let us return unto hwhy: for He has torn,
and He will heal us; He has smitten, and He will bind us up.
2 After two days He will revive us: in the third day, He will
raise us up, and we shall live in His sight. 3 Then we will know;
we will follow on to know hwhy: His going forth is prepared as
the morning; and He will come to us like the rain:
as the latter and former rain to the earth.
Hoshea/Hosea 6:1-3
This word bwS/shuwb/return is used in the same manner in many other
Scriptures.74 We see how Daniel returned to hwhy and we give thanks the Spirit
has revealed many things about the nature of his authentic repentance / turning /
return. We saw Daniels reaction to the words of Jeremiah and, very possibly, his
response to a similar word of hwhy that had been spoken through Mosheh. For
even in his days, the prophet Mosheh spoke forth a warning of terrible captivity as
well as the promise of a prophesied return. This is the captivity and return that
hwhy prophesied:
27 And hwhy will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be
left few in number among the nations, where hwhy shall lead you
away. 28 And there you will serve elohim, the work of mens
hands: wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor
smell. 29 But from there, you shall seek hwhy your Elohim, and
you will find Him, when you search after Him with all your heart
and with all your nephesh. 30 When you are in tribulation, and
all these things have come upon you in the latter days and you
shall return ( tbsw ) to hwhy your Elohim, and hearken to His
voice: 31 for hwhy your Elohim is a merciful Elohim; He will not
fail you, neither destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your
fathers which He swore unto them. Debarim/Deuteronomy 4:2731
Notice the phrase translated and you shall return is just one word in Hebrew:

74

1Samuel 7:3, 2Chronicles 30:6,9, Jeremiah 18:11, Malachi 3:7

22

tbSw = vshuv-tah
Parsing the word into its prefix, root, and suffix, we get this literal meaning (with a
translation directly beneath):

t bS w
you

return

and

and you return

The root word used here is seen in the middle two letters, and it is a form of the
word bwS/shuwb/return (a form of the word in which the VAV [ w ], the central
letter, has been removed). Yet, we cannot help but notice: This phrase that
indicates a return to hwhy (who Himself will bring about a return to the Land) also
contains the very three letters for tbS/Shabbat, and that in the precise order as
seen in the word for the Seventh Day. Below we compare tbSw / vshuv-tah and
tbS/Shabbat:

(Debarim 4:30)

tbSw = vshuv-tah = and you return

tbS = Shabbat
So while we have direct revelation indicating the Shabbat is quite related to
judgment, captivity, and shame (and Daniel shows us how this shame can be
transformed into repentance and the start of a return), what is seen just above (in
tbsw / vshuv-tah) might be called encoded evidence concerning the Return:
The desire to uphold the Shabbat
a Light-Filled Day by which we progress in our
learning the Torah and upholding itis so closely related
to a Return to hwhy and a Return to the Land.
Yet we have still more in the way of direct evidence regarding this matter, and that
verification is provided through the example and words of Nehemiah.
s r q u p e o n m l k y j x z w h d g b a

Did Nehemiah know and teach there was a connection between the Shabbat, the
return to hwhy, and then a return to the Land? And did Nehemiah connect the
Shabbat to Yisrael remaining in the Land, once they had returned? After the return
from 70 years of captivity in Babylon, Nehemiah clearly warned the inhabitants of
Yahudah that the judgment and wrath of hwhy had come upon Yisrael because they
profaned the Shabbat (precisely what the nation had been warned through Jeremiah
and the other prophets). This disobedience-induced wrath led to a terrible

23

judgment of carnage (human slaughtering), physical destruction (as in the walls of

Jerusalem and the Temple), and the Babylonian captivity of such a long duration.
The connection between the Shabbat, the return to hwhy, and then a return to the
Land becomes very apparent in the words of Nehemiah as he rebuked those who
profaned the Shabbat with their Canaanite commerce on the Set Apart Day:
15 In those days, I saw in Yahudah some treading winepresses on
the Shabbat, and bringing in sheaves, and lading them on
donkeys; as also wine, grapes and figs, and all manner of
burdens; and they brought them into Yerushalayim on the
Shabbat Day; and I protested in the day on which they sold the
victuals. 16 Men of Tyre also dwelt therein, who brought fish and
all manner of ware, and sold it on the Shabbat to the children of
Yahudah, and in Yerushalayim. 17 And I contended with the
nobles of Yahudah, and said to them, What evil thing is this
which you do, profaning the Shabbat Day? 18 Did not your
fathers thus, and did not our Elohim bring all this evil upon us
and upon this city? Yet you will bring more wrath upon Yisrael
by profaning the Shabbat! Nehemiah 13:15-18
The words of Nehemiah are clear: the evils of judgment, carnage, destruction, and
captivity had come upon our forefathers because they profaned the Shabbat. And
not unlike the prophets who were before him, Nehemiah further warned the nation:
Yet more wrath would fall upon Yisrael,
if they refused to honor the Shabbat.
In the days of Nehemiah, Yisrael was at a crossroads. Yet many nations of the
earth are now at the very same place of critical decision:
The United States and Yisraelalong with
many other nations who house a great majority of Abrahams
descendantsnow face a pending judgment for refusing to uphold
the Shabbat of hwhy which He set in place from Creation.
hwhy regards the refusal to recognize His Presence within the Shabbat as idolatry,
and the seed of Abraham will be punished for failing to uphold the sanctity of this
Day. The curse of lawlessness is already polluting and devouring the earth, and
apart from turning/repentance, the fire of judgment will soon be greatly kindled:
3 The earth shall be utterly emptied, and utterly laid waste, for
hwhy has spoken this word. 4 The earth mourns and fades away,
the world languishes and fades away, the lofty people of the
earth do languish. 5 The earth also is polluted under the

24

inhabitants thereof, because they have transgressed the laws,

violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. 6
Therefore, the curse has devoured the earth, and they that dwell
therein are found guilty: therefore, the inhabitants of the earth
are burned, and few men left. Isaiah 24:3-6

For New Covenant Believers: The Lampstand Warning

In this section, we will ponder the Light of hwhy which He has placed within the
Shabbat. And we will consider why that light still abides. We begin with a simple
question:
What believer would not want the blessings
of more light when studying the Word of hwhy?
Everyone who understands spiritual principles also realizes the light which comes
forth from the Inspired Word of Elohim feeds our innermost being with invaluable
spiritual nourishment.75 And while we can receive revelation in the Spirit on any
day of the week, the Light that hwhy has placed within the Shabbat (via having
placed His Presence within the Time) gives those who honor that Light an
understanding of the Word which they would not otherwise obtain. And it is in
observing His Shabbat that hwhy promises to set apart His people for all
generations.76 So let us ponder this great Light which has been placed within the
Seventh Day.

The Light of the First Day Culminates in the Light of the Seventh Day
The first words spoken by Elohim to bring forth this creation were Yuhee ohr!
In English, this sentence is usually translated, Let there be light.77 In Hebrew,
the word for light is rwa/ohr, and it has a misparim value (mv) of 207:

(mv)

207 = (200) r + (6) w + (1) a = rwa/ohr/light

During each of the first Six Days, Elohim brought forth various elements within
the Creation. All that He formed within these Six Days reflected (and still reflects)
many wonderful aspects of His light and splendor. And on the Seventh Day, the
light that had broken forth on the First Day reached its awesome crescendo with
the Shabbat:

75

Psalm 119:20, 1Peter 2:1-2, John 6:68

Exodus 31:12-13
77
Breshit/Genesis 1:3
76

25

The light of the First Day culminated

in the light of the Seventh Day.
But how do we assert such a thing? Elohim blessed the Shabbat and set it apart:78
He placed His Spirit/Presence upon/within this Appointed Feast Day. His
Presence illumines this Day far above the light which is seen in any of the other six
days of the week. So it is not a coincidence that the misparim value (mv) for
Shabbat is 702the exact reversal, the mirror image, of rwa/ohr/light/207:

(mv)

702 = (400) t + (2) b + (300) S = tbS/Shabbat/Sabbath

rwa/ohr/light (207) culminated in tbS/Shabbat (702). Because of the light which

hwhy has placed within the Shabbat, those who set apart this Day receive continual
blessings from the Most High. One such major blessing is the remarkable spiritual
insight that comes from honoring the Light of His Presence placed within the
Sanctuary in Time which hwhy calls Shabbat. As we uphold the Shabbat, the
Spirit of hwhy advances our understanding79 beyond anything we could have ever
asked or thought.80 In His light, we see light.81 We pray all those who believe in
the Messiah will desire to benefit from acknowledging and walking in the Light of
the Shabbat, even the Light of His Spirit/Presence.
The Removal of the Lampstand: Losing the Light of the Seventh Day
All of this explains whywhen Yisrael had forsaken the Shabbatthey needed
both healing and light. Darkness was already setting in upon the nation, as is
evidenced from the Word of hwhy through Isaiah. Their need was one of true
repentance, and if that return/turning came, Yisrael was promised the restoration of
light:
8 Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your
healing shall spring forth speedily; and your righteousness shall
go before you; the splendor of hwhy will be your rearguard. 9
Then you will call, and hwhy will answer; you will cry, and He
will say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of you the
yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking lawlessly; 10
and if you draw out your nephesh to the hungry, and satisfy the
afflicted nephesh: then your light will arise in darkness, and
your obscurity be as the noonday; 11 and hwhy will guide you
continually, and satisfy your nephesh in dry places, and make

strong your bones; and you will be like a watered garden, and
like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. Isaiah 58:12
This restoration of light would also lead to Yisrael being restored as a light-bearer
to the nations of the earth (for that has always been the intent of hwhy for our
nation82):
And they that shall be of you will build
the old waste places; you will raise up the foundations
of many generations; and you will be called The Repairer of
the Breach, The Restorer of Paths to Dwell in.
Isaiah 58:12
But (as we have already seen) this restoration of light would require Yisrael to
uphold the sanctity of the Shabbat:
13 If you will turn away your foot from the Shabbat, from doing
your pleasure on My set apart day; and call the Shabbat a
delight, the set apart of hwhy, honorable; and will honor Him,
not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor
speaking words: 14 Then you will delight yourself in hwhy; and I
will cause you to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed
you with the heritage of Yaacov your father: for the mouth of
hwhy has spoken. Isaiah 58:13-14
So when Yisrael forsook the ordinance of his Elohim (i.e., the Shabbat), the
darkness of apostasy83 had already begun setting in upon our forefathers. Apart
from truly turning back to hwhy, the apostasy would continue and captivity would
be the result. Our study has already set forth the unfortunate outcome in that
regard.

So how do these things apply to believers in the New Covenant Era? Shaul stated
that whatever was written in earlier times was written for instruction so that
through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might obtain
hope.84 It is unthinkable that hwhy would so severely punish ancient Yisrael for
spurning the Shabbat and then make this age-abiding ordinance multiple choice

82

This was, and remains, the Elohim-given mission of Yisrael: Deuteronomy 4:6-7, Psalm 67:1-2, 6-7. hwhy did
not merely exalt Yisrael to be the head over all nations simply so they could bask in their preeminence (see
Deuteronomy 26:17-19, 28:1-2; 1Chronicles 14:17, 2Chronicles 32:20-23); His intent was/is to shine His splendor
upon Yisrael and to use their example to bless all nations (Genesis 18:18, 22:18, 26:4, 1Kings 4:30-34, Psalm 86:9)
with the true knowledge of the One, True Elohim and to fill all the earth with His splendor. Psalm 102:14-16, Isaiah
60:1-3, Numbers 14:21, 1Chronicles 16:24, Psalm 72:19, Habakkuk 2:14

in our days. No Scripture has ever relaxed, or changed, the Seventh Day Shabbat
and no Scripture has ever ended its age-enduring importance for all believers. The
Shabbat will remain in force across all 1000 generations85 of mans history (and
presently, we have only spanned some 120 of the 1000 generations prophesied).
The Presence of hwhy placed within the Shabbat is a significant source of light for
those who seek Him. eSwhy the Messiah warned all those who believed on Him to
walk in the light while they had the light, lest the darkness should come upon
them.86 This would certainly apply to the Light which has been placed within the
Shabbat by hwhy having set it apart with His Presence. Speaking from the
heavens, eSwhy would later warn all the assemblies that their lampstand could be
removed (that it would be removed!), if they failed to walk in love-derived
obedience:
4 But I have against you, that you have left your first love.
5 Remember, therefore, from where you are fallen, and repent
and do the first works; or else I come to you, and will remove
your lampstand out of its place, except you repent.
Revelation 2:5
Once more, we refer back to the teachings of Isaiahwho spoke of the darkness
that had set in upon Yisrael due to their open rejection of the Shabbat.87 Shaul
also warned that ancient Yisrael had turned aside into the depths of apostasy
because their foolish hearts had been darkened through Elohim-opposing
idolatry.88 Yisrael failed to uphold Shabbat by worshipping hwhy for the works of
His hands89 (the Creation); so they turned aside to worshipping the works of their
own hands.90 When the lampstand is removed from an assembly (or a nation), the
darkness of apostasy91 and the fearful expectation of judgment92 move to the
forefront. While upholding the Shabbat will remain a miraculous source of light
for all who obey hwhy, those who turn away from the Set Apart Day are in grave
danger of fading into the darkness.

A Final Word
We have seen the tbS/Shabbat is not only a Memorial of Creation, but it is also a
Day that was made so mankind could pursue and attain yet more of the Light and
the Presence of hwhy. We have seen the relationship between the tbS/Shabbat
and the freedom from bondage of which it speaks. We have seen the solemn
warnings of terrible judgment which were spoken to ancient Yisrael over the
Seventh Day and we have seen what occurred when those exhortations went
unheeded. The tSb/bo-shet/shame of defeat and captivity subsequently came
upon the disobedient forefathers because they had spurned the Shabbat.
When the Mashiach came, He was not only hwhy (45) in human flesh, He was the
Last Adam (45) and He declared Himself to the Sovereign of the Shabbat (45). (He
is Sovereign of all!93) That we have Hebrew numbers relating these threeall
equaling 45, in some formis by no means a mere coincidence. Far from
abolishing the Seventh Day, the Messiah was the Shabbat made Flesh. Everything
about Him epitomized what hwhy desired, including His honoring of the Shabbat.
Far from being abolished, the Seventh Day is a very part of the Creation. As the
Government of the Messiah increases, the meaning and significance of the Shabbat
has only grown across mans brief history of nearly 6,000 years. And such growth
will only continue. The Shabbat is prophetic of the coming Millennium as well.94
The words by which hwhy spoke to bless the Shabbat,95 setting it apart, have placed
a permanent blessing of His Light and Presence within the Seventh Day.96 This
explains why those who honor hwhy by honoring the Shabbat are recipients of His
great and abiding Light. One would expect all believers should long for more of
His Light, Love, and Presence in these days of increasing darkness. Whether
through life, or through death, those who uphold Shabbat will receive the heritage
of Yaacov: they will inherit the Land,97 Eretz Yisrael, and they will inherit the
Kingdom98 for all time. The Promise of hwhy will not fail to the three obedient
patriarchs,99 nor will it fail to any who follow in their steps by honoring Elohim as
the Sovereign of the Shabbat: all who overcome will inherit the Throne of
Splendor.100 t
