Headmasters Corner
We start this week with the whole school congratulating our first scholarship successes of the year. These are wonderful
achievements and are a result of the hard work that the children have put into the studies throughout their time here at
Tockington. They join the illustrious list of scholars on the honours board in the dining hall and whilst they still have plenty
to do here we wish them every future success. Well done to all of you; we are very proud of you!

Swimming News
IAPS
The IAPS team performed brilliantly and achieved 100% Personal Bests from dive starts with 90% of the swims putting
them in the top 30 in the country. Mrs Wakeling and I were very proud of the attitude and behaviour of the whole team.
Abigail Blackwell gave an outstanding performance in the backstroke, swimming an astonishing relay and individual
backstroke time of 15.9 seconds. This monumental effort seemed to inspire the team and give them self belief. Rachel
Shutt went on to post a top sixth time on last years figures. Jake Wakeling, Olivia Banks, Tom Edwards, Olivia Campbell,
Jonathan Baguley and Max Curtis went on to post top 25 swims. The top 12 times generally make the final so we wait to
see the Final team sheet which should be with us in March. Despite some very tough competition from seven other
schools, we managed to secure seven first places. Well done! Many thanks to the parents who kindly helped and
supported; it was much appreciated.
Swimarathon
Please note that the senior team is now full; the target to beat is 157 lengths in 55 minutes. Team members are Tom
Edwards, Ollie Shutt, Olivia Campbell, Alex Gooch, Ellie Parker and Abigail Blackwell. Thanks to Rachel Shutt, Jonathan
Baguley, James Allen and Iona Campbell who are chasing the 144 lengths junior target. There are two spaces left in the
junior team. Please contact Mrs Hinchliffe as soon as possible if you are interested in filling the remaining spaces.

Milkshake Monday Morning

Year 3 Geography

Year 2 had lots of fun at Milkshake

Monday Morning this week with stories
and banana milkshakes in the library.
They listened to two great stories read by
Mrs Edwards - "Snuff" and "The Wish
Cat". What a lovely way to spend some
of their break time! Thank you to Miss
Sheppard, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Baglin,
and, of course, the lovely kitchen staff for
making it all possible!

Year 3 had great fun in Geography this week learning about food that
comes from the rainforest. They found out what types of food come from the
rainforest, how they get from the rainforest to our supermarkets and what
'Fairtrade' means. They had an exciting time performing a taste test of different rainforest food, followed by describing their appearance, smell, texture
and taste.

Cross Country
Good performances from Max Curtis, Alex Grocott, Ellie Parker, Ceredig Jones, Jonathan Baguley and Isabel Browning.
Performances of the week: Ella Howard-Robinson, Adrian Ng, Lewis Burrows and Victoria Benito.
Congratulations to Freddie Cooper on a fabulous 8 minutes 18 seconds, beating his PB by 16 seconds, A great run,
Freddie!
Years 3 & 4 - Outstanding performances from Tilly Jordan, Angel Burrows and Henry Packham.

Bristol Old Vic Theatre School

We had a fantastic hour on Thursday afternoon in the company of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School who performed
Julius Caesar for us in our very own hall. It was fantastic. The children, who had all been made familiar with the story
during the week, were mesmerised by all of the theatrical effects and the clever switching of characters. The setting was
modern but the language was largely Shakespeare's own and the themes of human ambition and corruption were
timeless! The play, adapted for a younger audience by Toby Hulse, was made very accessible and it was great to see
one of the history plays brought to life for such young children.
Five of our own Year 8s joined the Old Vic Theatre Group for the afternoon, treading the boards with the actors and
delivering lines. Perhaps we have some thespians in the making there?
The same Theatre School is putting on The Merchant of Venice and The Heresy of Love. Look for the details online, or
on my door at school, if you fancy a trip to the theatre!
