about spiritual journey of self-enlightenment of the poet. During this journey as captured in the poem,
the poet rids himself from all of the trappings and social bindings.

The very first verse (missing) is:
Chal Bhulleya, chal oathay chaliay, Jithay saaray Annaiy
Na Koi saadi zaat pachaanay, te naa koi saanu Mannay
Translation:
I want to go where people do not care about (or seemingly blind to) my social status. No one cares
what my caste is, (nor my tribe), and people will not bow to me just because I come from a privileged
background.
then the rest of the poem makes sense as it focuses on personal quest and poet's search for
enlightenment.

Translation:
T1: Bhulleah Shah, I am searching, I am looking within my soul, Who am I in reality,
(in this search of self enlightenment)
T2: I don't want to pretend to be a pious Mullah in the mosque
T3: I don't care what people say about Non-Muslim traditions and customs
T4: Nor I pretend to be the purest while looking down at others and unclean
T5: I don't want to be Moses (prophet of Israelis) nor I want to be Pharaoh (who enslaved the same
Israelis)
T6: Oh Bulleh Shah, I am still in search of self-enlightenment,
The the same theme repeats over and over and Bhulleh shah tries to break away and break open all
of the superficial standards of being pure and being good.

Bulla Ki Janna, a kafi written by Sufi Saint Bulleh Shah (1680 to 1758), from Kasur, (now in
Pakistan), is a great aesthetic, spiritual and metaphysical composition.
This is a great, inspirational kafi which has always indulged a divine thought in me. I have always
looked for its good translation and tried to translate it, but could not do it better. Recently I found
it and I am pasting it after a bit of pruning.

[Nor am I the believer in mosque]

Na main rehnda phaang sharaban
[Nor am I present in intoxicants]
Na main rehnda mast kharaban
[Nor am I lost nor the corrupt]

[Nor am I union nor grief]

[Nor am I intrinsic in the pure/impure]
Na main aaabi na main khaki
[Nor am I of the water nor of the land]
