In the Security Council (SC) terrorism is one of the main topics, due to the
alteration of the SCs main goals, which are peace and security. On the 24
September 2014, the Security Council arrived to a resolution1 that called
upon all nations to take action against terrorism. This resolution addresses
the International Community to realize that by taking preventive measures
and following a set of guidelines and rules, terrorism can be eradicated or
diminished: all of this without recurring into brutal force.

Terrorism does not exclude any country; every one of the members inside
the International Community has a role to play. Nevertheless, there
are countries that have taken an important part on this topic. Middle
EEastMMember States are the ones known to be relate with terrorism
(Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Qatar,
Saudi Arabia, Syrian Arab Republic, United Arab Emirates and Yemen),
but not all of them are interconnected with it2. The United States, the
United Kingdom, France, Germany and many others have been victims of
terrorist acts; andHaving also taken actions in order to counter terrorism.
The United States deployed troops to Iraq and Afghanistan as a reaction
to the terrorist acts they have suffered. North Atlantic Treaty Organization
(NATO) has also been of great importance regarding terrorist attacks.
After the 9/11 incidents, it took action and deployed troops in order to
make comply with Article 5 of the NATO charter3.
Terrorist Groups in the Middle East are often referred to as Jihadist groups;
being the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and Al-Qaeda the most
prominent subversive groups in the region. Jihadist groups often perform
violent attacks that affect not only the people inside their country, but
the international community as well. One of the most recent cases of an
attack performed to a country outside the Middle East by Jihadist groups
was ISILs attack on the Canadian capital state of Ottawa, where an ISIL
gunman attacked the Canadian Parliament but was successfully taken
down by Canadian forces. The most famous attack performed by Jihadist
groups, in this case, Al-Qaeda, was to the Twin Towers located in the city
of Manhattan, New York, where approximately2977 people lost their lives.
The Middle East has suffered a destabilization of their international
relationships between countries inside the region in the last years due
to armed conflicts. These armed conflicts are fought generally between
groups who profess different modalities of Islam. The most recent armed
conflict fought in the Middle East regarding terrorist groups is the current
war against the Islamic State of Iraq Levant, who has taken control over
territories of Iraq and Syria in the search of establishing their own nation.
This subversive group has been involved in numerous terrorist attacks and
constitute a very strong front and menace to the Middle Easts stability.
International efforts to tackle this problem have been madeiThere were
signs of international cooperation between Russia and the United States
allies, which signals and improvement in international relationships
between the two sides. Also, the Security Council has made various
resolutions to address this problematic like the Resolution 2178 achieved
on September 24, 2014.
