Note: Kaal and Chakra Dashaa are two independent Dashaa systems
and have nothing to do with Kaal Chakra Dashaa.
This is another diagnostic tool for astrologers. Kaal Chakra Dashaa to be
applied if the Moon's Navaansh Lord is strong. (Kaal Chakra
Dasagneyam Chandraanshese Balanvite). In other cases Udu Dasa can be
applied. (Sada Nakshatra Margena Dashaa balavatee smritah). This tool is
followed by some experts. When the Moon's Navaansh Lord is more
powerful this Dashaa should be applied intoto to get the correct prognosis.
[BPHS, Ch. 46]
52-53. Maharshi Paraashar said - "O Brahmin! Now, after making obedience
to Lord Shiva, I shall describe the Kaal Chakra Dashaa. Whatever was
related by Lord Shiva to Goddess Paarvatee, is being explained by me for
the use of sages to be utilized for the welfare of the people.
54-55. By drawing vertical and horizontal lines, prepare 2 Kundalees, Savya
and Apsavya, of 12 apartments (Koshthas) each. From the second Koshtha in
each Kundali fix the Raashis Mesh, Vrishabh, Mithun, Kark, Sinh, Kanyaa,
Tulaa, Vrischik, Dhanu, Makar, Kumbh, Meen. Then Nakshatra may be
incorporated in the manner, indicated hereafter. These Kundalees, indicative
of the 12 Raashis, are called Kaal Chakra.
56-58. Write Ashwinee, Bharanee and Krittikaa in the Savya Chakra and
Rohinee, Mrigashiraa, Aardraa in the Apsavya Cgakra. Then incorporate the
three following Nakshatra - Punarvasu, Pushya and Aslesha in the Savya and
Maghaa, P-phaalgunee and U-phaalgunee in the Apsavya. Then incorporate
the three following Nakshatra, Hast, Chitraa and Swaati in the Savya Chakra
and Vishaakhaa, Anuraadhaa and Jyeshthaa in the Apasavya Chakra. Then
incorporate Mool, P-Aashaadhaa and U-Aashaadhaa in the Savya Chakra and
Shravan, Dhanishthaa and Shatabhishaa in the Apsavya Chakra. Finally
incorporate the last three Nakshatra - P-Bhaadrapad, U-Bhaadrapad and
Revatee in the Savya Chakra. Now there will be 15 Nakshatra in the Savya
Chakra and 12 Nakshatra in the Apasavya Chakra, (because for the 12 Raashi
there are 12 Pad of 3 Nakshatra, the Navaansh). The Pad of Ashwinee,
Punarvasu, Hast, Mool, P-Bhadrapada, Krittikaa, Aashleshaa, Swaati, U-
68. In the 3rd Pad of Bharanee, Tulaa is Deha and Kanyaa is Jeev and Lords
of the Raashi Tulaa, Vrishchik, Dhanu, Makar, Kumbh, Meen, Vrishchik, Tulaa
and Kanyaa are the Dashaa Lords in this order.
69. In the 4th Pad of Bharanee, Kark is Deha and Kumbh is Jeeva and the
Lords of the Raashi Kark, Sinh, Mithun, Vrishabh, Mesh, Meen, Kumbh,
Makar and Dhanu are the Dasha Lords in this order.
[Rohinee, Maghaa, Vishaakhaa, Shravan]
71-72. O Brahmin! I have thus given you the description of Savya Chakra.
Now I shall give the description of Apsavya Chakra. Prepare a similar chart
of 12 apartments and from the 2nd apartment onwards place the Raashi
from Vrishchik onwards in the reverse order. In this chart Deha and Jeev
would be the same for Rohinee, Maghaa, Vishaakhaa and Shravan, as for
Rohinee.
73-76. In the first Pad of Rohinee, Karka is Deh and Dhanu is Jeev. The
Lords of the Raashi Dhanu, Makar, Kumbh, Meen, Mesh, Vrishabh, Mithun,
Sinh and Tulaa will be the Dashaa Lords in this order.
In the 2nd Pad of Rohinee, Tulaa will be Deha and Kanyaa the Jeev and the
Lords of the Raashi Kanyaa, Tulaa, Vrishik, Meen, Kumbh, Makar, Dhanu,
Vrishchik and Vrishchik will be the Dashaa Lords.
In the 3rd Pad of Rohinee Kumbh will be Deha and Kanya Jeeva. The Lords of
the Raashi Kanyaa, Sinh, Kark, Mithun, Vrishabh, Mesh, Dhanu, Makar and
Kumbh will be the Dashaa Lords. In the 4th Vrishchik will be Deha and Meen
Jeev and the Lords of the Raashi Meen, Mesh, Vrishabh, Mithun, Sinh, Kark,
Kanyaa, Tulaa and Vrishik will be the Lords.
[Mrigashiraa, Aardraa, P-Phaalgunee, U-Phaalgunee, Anuraadhaa, Jyesthaa,
Dhanisthaa, Shatabhishaa]
77. In the 4 Pad of the Apasavya Nakshatra, Mrigashiraa, Aardra, PPhaalgunee, U-Phaalgunee, Anuraadhaa, Jyeshthaa, Dhanishthaa and
Shatabhishaa the Deha and Jeev and the Dashaa Lords will be the same, as
for Mrigashiraa.
78-81. In the first Pad of Mrigashiraa Kark is Deha and Meen is Jeev and
the Lords of the Raashi Meen, Kumbh, Makar, Dhanu, Vrishchik, Tulaa,
Kanyaa, Sinh and Kark will be the Dashaa Lords in this order.
In the 2nd Pad of Mrigshiraa, Vrishabh is Deha and Mithun is Jeev and the
Lords of the Raashi Mithun, Vrishabh, Mesh, Dhanu, Makar, Kumbh, Meen,
Mesh and Vrishabh will be the Dashaa Lords.
In the 3rd Pad of Mrigshiraa, Makar is Deha and Mithun is Jeev and the
Lords of the Raashi Mithun, Sinh, Kark, Kanyaa, Tulaa, Vrishchik, Meen,
Kumbh and Makar will be the Dashaa Lords.
In the 4th Pad of Mrigshiraa, Mesh will be Deha and Dhanu Jeev and the
Lords of the Raashi Dhanu, Vrishik, Tulaa, Kanyaa, Sinh, Kark, Mithun,
Vrishabh and Mesh will be the Dashaa Lords.
82. Maharishi Paraashar said. O Braahman! The description of the Deha and
Jeeva of the Pad of the Apasavya Nakshatra and the Dashaa Lords is the
same, as narrated by Lord Mahaadev to Goddess Paarvatee.
Calculation of Dashaa
87-88. According to this principle, we should be acquainted with the Pad of
the Nakshatra. Now I shall tell you, how the calculations are made, according
to the proportion of the Pad of a Nakshatra. The number of Ashwinee etc,
whichever may be the past Nakshatra, should be divided by 3. Thereafter
the remainder should be multiplied by 4. To the figure so made available the
Pada of the present Nakshatra should be added. The product will be the
Navaansh from Mesh onwards.
89. The number of years (Poorn Aayu) are, as under. For the Amsa in Mesh
100 years, in Vrishabh 85 years, in Mithun 83 years, in Kark 86 years. The
number of years will be the same for Raashi, situated the 5th and 9th to
them.
90-91. Multiply the past Ghatikaa, Pal etc. of the Pad of the Nakshatra, in
which a person is born, by the existing Dashaa years and divide it by 15. The
result will indicate the expired period of the Dashaa in years, months etc. By
deducting it from the total number of years allotted, we get the balance of
Dashaa at birth. The Dashaa should be taken, as commencing from that
Raashi.
92. Multiply the past Ghatikaa, Pal etc. of the present Pad of the Nakshatra
by the number of years and divide the product by the fourth part of
Bhabhog. The years etc. so obtained may then be deducted from the total
Dashaa period. The result will be the balance of Dashaa at birth in years,
months etc.
93. The past Kalaa (minutes) of the Navaansh, in which Chandra may be
placed, should be multiplied by the years, allotted to the Dashaa and the
product should be divided by 200. The resulting years etc. will be the
expired portion of the Dashaa. By deducting them from the total number of
years the balance of the Dashaa at birth is obtained.

Note by Revati:
According to Mantreswara, the first Maha Dashaa of Kaal Chakra Dashaa is
directly started from the Navaansh in which Moon is posited and its Lord.
Kaal Chakra Dashaa is based on the Navaansh in natal chart in which the
Moon is placed in and follows very special and complicated rules. It is a very
complexly calculated Dashaaa with a very particular sequence of Mahaa
Dashaas and Antar-Dashaas (main and sub planetary periods.) There is
discussion about the correct calculation of Kaal Chakra Dashaa, and JHora
offers six options to use - but only one is correct.
Kaal Chakra is the 'wheel of time'. It is part of the three most important
Dashaas - Mool, Vimshottaree and Kaal Chakra Dashaa - and very time
sensitive: One minute in birth time variation results in three months in
Mahaa Dashaa cycle! This means, only 20 seconds variation in birth time
results in one month in MD cycle, 5 seconds in one week. Therefore Kaal
Chakra Dashaa is very suited for final birth time rectification.
Note: Next important Dashaa are Conditional Dashaa (and one CD is always
applicable!) , Naaraayan or Chara Dashaa and Kaal Dashaa. Varnad and
Niraayan Shool Dashaa are Aayur-Dashaa, related to longevity in general and
endings/problems of all kinds in particular.
Use
Kaal Chakra Dashaa - as based on Navaansh - is closely connected to 9th
Bhaav themes. It is the Dashaa of our Dharm, our life purpose and goals we
have to achieve. It points at new experiences we have to make in order to
fulfill our Dharma. This way it shows chances and problems, opportunities
and obstacles.
Kaal Chakra Dashaa shows the evolution of our Self, our personality and
individuality and the development of our hidden potential due to our Dharma.
It shows evolution of your hidden potential and experiences enabling it, the
development of your personality - it shows opportunities and fortunes, but
dangers and problems as well, - you have to look at first in your D-9 chart,
then in your D-1 to make correct predictions.
Kaal Chakra Dashaa - a highly reliable Dashaa - in fact indicates nothing but
the evolution of your Dharma in this incarnation! See next paragraph for
more indications of 9th Bhaav, Navaansh and resulting thereof for Kaal
Chakra Dashaa.
D-9 Navaansh
A Navaamsh of a Rashi comprises of 320', Navaamsh Varg follows a regular
mapping to signs throughout the whole zodiac.
Navaansh are identical with Nakshatra Pad, which divide a lunar mansion
(Nakshatra) into four equal parts. Therefore they have a particular
relationship with the Nakshatra they divide and are generally related to the
Bhaav Kaarak of the 9th Bhaava, Jupiter.
All indications from 9th Bhaav can be derived from Graha's placements in
Navaansh: Dharm (life goals, life purpose), fortunes, growth in life, success,
potential, hidden forces and strengths (of Graha), unconscious disposition
and direction of the mind (with regard to one's own Dharm, potential, which
normally is more unconscious than conscious), spirituality and religiosity,
philosophy of life.
A planet posited in a particular Amsa of D-9 (Nav-ansh) hints at our future
and points at the direction of the planet in which he wants to go. It is a
traffic sign indicating us the direction where to go - and this for each single
planet, regarding his natural and functional significations.
A planet placed in the same Raashi in D-1 and D-9 is called Vargottam and is
comparable with a Graha in Swasth Avasthaa - very strong, confident and
happy. Extending this rule, all planets in same Raashis (or even exalted) in D1 and a particular Varg are endowed with strengths and quality with regard
to the topic of this Varg.
Bharanee etc, 4th Pad: Deha Cancer, Jeev Sagittarius (Aquarius, see note)
Dashaa Sequence: Lords of Cancer (Deha), Leo, Gemini, Taurus, Aries, Pisces,
Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius (Jeev)
(Note: In Sl. 69 in BPHS Parashara gives Aquarius as Jeev for Bharanee 4th Pad, but in the
following Dashaa sequence Sagittarius - and not Aquarius - is Jeev. Following the sequence
Sagittarius must be the the correct one.)
The initial Mahaa Dashaa of a period (a native's life) belongs to the lord of
the sign owning the Nakshatra Pad occupied by the Moon at the time of
birth, being so much of the sign Mahaa Dashaa as corresponds to the
Ghatikaa that yet remain of the Nakshatra Pad and the order of Mahaa
Dashaa follows the natural order of the Nakshatra Pad reckoned from the
aforesaid one. This is the opinion, say the sages, held by some learned in
Astrology.
Calculation and Sequence of Antar-Dashaa
Antar-Dashaas of Mahaa Dashaa follows the same sequence as given above
for Mahaa Dashaa, with all its irregularities.
This means: Antar-Dashaa in KCD does not start with Mahaa Dashaa Lord (as
in all other Nakshatra Dashaa, called 'Udu Dashaa') but with the particular
Lord/ Navaansh Sign as explained above. I will post related effects ofAntarDasa periods in BPHS, there you'll see each Antar-Dashaa sequence for each
Mahaa Dashaa.
BPHS in Ch. 46, 49, 50 and 65 gives examples of correct Antar-Dashaa cycle
for each Mahaa Dashaa (and each Mahaa Dashaa has another Antar-Dashaa
cycle!), which proves that Antar-Dashaas in Kaal Chakra Dasa do *not* start
with Mahaa Dashaa Lord, as generally usual in Dashaa.
BPHS, Ch. 46, 49 (especially this one!), 50, 65, Effects of Aquarius/Kumbh
Dashaa
'In Kumbh in the Dashaa of
... Vrishabh Ansh there will be financial gains,
Mesh - diseases of the eyes,
Meen - journeys to distant places,
Kumbh - increase in wealth,
Makar - success in all kinds of ventures,
Dhanu - more enemies,
Mesh - loss of happiness and enjoyment,
Vrishabh - death,
Mithun - well being.
Dashaa of Kumbh Ansh.
Shukra - many kinds of educational attainments, gains of property,
happiness from wife and children, sound health and increase in wealth.
... Mangal - fevers, danger from fire and from enemies, distress from
enemies and mental agony.
... Shani - danger of troubles from wind, bile and phlegm, quarrels, foreign
journey, danger of suffering from tuberculosis.
... Guru - freedom from ill health, happiness, honors from the king and joy.
... Budh - happiness from wife, children and wealth, joy, increase in good
fortune.
Kumbh Ansh
Vrishabh - increase in wealth,
Mesh - eye troubles,
Meen - travels to distant lands,
Kumbh - increase in wealth,
Makar - success in all ventures,
Dhanu - increase in knowledge and learning,
Mesh - loss of happiness,
Vrishabh - danger of death,
Mithun - gains of property, happiness.'
Therefore, taking Aquarius (Kumbh) as an example, "the only correct
sequence of AD for Aquarius/ Kumbh MD" can be:
[Aquarius/Kumbh MD:] Taurus/Vrishabh - Aries/Mesh - Pisces/Meen Aquarius/Kumbh - Capricorn/Makar - Sagittarius/Dhanu - Aries/Mesh
(Sinhaavalokan Gati, 'lion's leap', and change of direction to forward!) Taurus/Vrishabh - Gemini/Mithun
means the last Dashaa period in KCD is called 'Jeev' (life) in Savya cycle and
'Deha' (body) in Apasavya cycle.
Explanation:
Deha means 'body' and Jeev means life or spirit. The Raashi becoming Deha
is closely related to our body and obtains therefore Lagna qualities, the
Raashi becoming Jeev is related to our mind and obtains therefore Moon
qualities.
Sub-periods (Antar-Dashaa, Pratyantar Dashaa, Sooksm Dashaa) and
transits of Benefics provide positive influences, sub-periods and transits of
Malefics are generally bad influences.
Quoting PVR Narasinh Rao (Astrology - an integrated approach): "Deh Raashi
shows body and Jeev Raashi shows the spirit. Benefics and Malefics
transiting in them affect them positively and negatively (respectively) . If
Jupiter, Mercury and Venus are transiting in one's Jeev Raashi, one may
exhibit a positive spirit and be cheerful. If Mars, Sun, Saturn and Raahu are
transiting in one's Jeev Raashi, one may be without any enthusiasm. If Mars,
Sun, Saturn and Raahu are transiting in one's Deh Raashi, one may face
accidents or death."
and/or Jeev Raashi will cause premature death. Four Malefics in the Deha
and Jeev Raashi will cause definite death. If both the Deha and Jeev Raashi
are occupied by Malefics, there will be fear from king and thieves and death
of the native. If Soorya is in the Deha, or Jeev Raashi, there will be danger
from fire. If Chandra is in the Deha, or Jeev Raashi will cause danger from
water. If Mangal is in the Deh or Jeev Raashi there is fear from weapons. If
Budh is ion Deha or Jeev Raashi, there is fear from windy troubles. If Shani
is in Deha or Jheev Raashi, there is fear from Gulma (a disease). If there
are Rahu and Ketu in Deh or Jeev Raashi, there is fear from poison. If the
Deha, or Jeev Raashi are occupied by Budh, Guru and Shukra, the native will
be wealthy, will enjoy all kinds of comforts and will have good health. Mixed
results may be expected, if the Deha and Jeev Raashi are occupied by both
Benefics and Malefics.
129-130. In the Dashaa of the Raashi, owned by Malefics, the body and soul
will be in distress. The effects will be favorable in the Dashaa of the Raashi,
owned by Benefics. If a Malefic Raashi is occupied by a Benefic Graha, or, if
a Benefic Rashi is occupied by a Malefic Graha, the effects will be of a
mixed nature.
Gati (movements)
We have seen in the Mahaa Dashaa paragraph the irregular movements of
Navaansh Signs. These movements have their specific meaning and are of
course not due to mere coincidence.
The three main Gati are:
(1) Mandooki Gati (frog's leap): Movement of one Raashi by jumping over one
Raashi
Example 1 - Movement from Virgo to Cancer: natal Moon in Ashwinee (etc.),
2nd Pad: Deha Capricorn, Jeev Gemini,
Dashaa Sequence: Lords of Capricorn (Deha), Aquarius, Pisces, Scorpio,
Libra, *Virgo, Cancer*, Leo, Gemini (Jeev)
Example 2 - Movement from Leo to Gemini: natal Moon in Bharanee etc., 1st
Pad: Deha Scorpio, Jeev Pisces
Dashaa Sequence: Lords of Scorpio (Deha), Libra, Virgo, Cancer, *Leo,
Gemini*, Taurus, Aries, Pisces (Jeev)
[BPHS, Ch. 46]
'101-102. The effects of the Dashaa of the Raashi with Mandookee Gati in the Savya
Chakra are distress to friends, relations, parents and elders and there is likely to be cause
for trouble from poison, weapons, thieves and enemies. In the Mandookee Dasha of the
Gati of a Raashi from Sinh to Mithun there is the likelihood of the death of the mother, or
self, trouble from Government and possibility of brain fever.
106-108. In the Dashaa of the Raashi with the Mandooki Gati in the
Apasavya Chakra the effects will be distress to wife and conditions, loss of
children, possibility of feverish conditions and loss of position.
In both above mentioned examples these results are to be expected in
Cancer and Gemini period.
(2) Markatee Ghati (monkey's leap): Backward movement to the previous
Raashi
Example - Movement from Leo to Cancer: Natal Moon in Rohinee etc., 3rd
Pad: Deha Aquarius, Jeev Virgo
Dashaa Sequence: Lords of Virgo (Jeev), *Leo, Cancer*, Gemini, Taurus,
Aries, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius (Deha)
[BPHS, Ch. 46]
'103. The effects of the Dashaa of Raashi with Markatee Gati in the Savya
Chakra are loss of wealth, agricultural products and animals, death of
father, or an elderly close relation and feeling of lethargy.
In the Dasha of the Raashi with the Markatee Gati there may be danger
from watery places, loss of position, distress from father, punishment from
Government and wandering in the forests; with the Sinhaavalokan there may
be destruction of the dwelling and death of father etc.'
In above mentioned example these results are to be expected in Cancer
period.
(3) Sinhaavalokan Gati (lion's leap): Movement of a Raashi to the 5th and 9th
Raashi
Example 1 - Movement from Pisces to Scorpio: Natal Moon in Bharanee etc.,
3rd Pad: Deha Libra, Jeev Virgo
Dashaa Sequence: Lords of Libra (Deha), Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn,
Aquarius, *Pisces, Scorpio*, Libra, Virgo (Jeev)
Example 2 - Movement from Sagittarius to Pisces: Natal Moon in Bharanee
etc., 2nd Pad: Deha Aquarius, Jeev Virgo
'104-105. The effects of the Dashaa of the Raashi with Sinhaavalokan Gati
in the Savya Chakra are possibility of injury from animals, loss of amity with
friends, distress to near relations, drowning in a well, fall from animals,
possibility of harm from poison, weapons and diseases and destruction of
residential dwelling.
In both above mentioned examples these results are to be expected in
Scorpio and Pisces period.
Description of the Effects of Gati (movements):
[BPHS, Ch. 46]
109-111. If the movement is from Meen to Vrishchik, the native may suffer
from fever; if from Kanyaa to Kark, there may be loss of brothers and
kinsmen; if from Sinh to Mithun, there may be ill health of the wife; if from
Sinh to Kark, the native may die; if from Dhanu to Mesh, there may be death
of uncles and similar relations. If the Raashi is Yuti with a malefic, adverse
conditions may be expected in the Dashaa of the Raashi. Favorable effects
will be felt in its Dashaa, if the Rashi is Yuti with a Benefic.
112-113. O Brahmin! In the Kaal Chakra Dashaa favorable and unfavorable
effects may be predicted, after taking into account the directions of the
Raashi and Graha.
114-119. If the movement is from Kanyaa to Kark, good results are realized
in places, located in the East and at that time journeys to the places in the
North prove fruitful. Unfavorable effects will be felt in places, located in
the West and the South. It will be advisable not to undertake journeys in
those directions in the Dashaa of these Raashi. If the movement is from
Sinh to Mithun, no journey should be undertaken to places, located in the
East. However, the journeys to the South-West will prove fruitful in the
Dasha of those Raashi. If the movement is from Kark to Sinh, journeys
during that period to the South will prove unfavorable and result in loss and
the native has to return from the South to the West. If the movement is
from Meen to Vrishchik, there will distress, if the native goes to the North.
The same would happen, if the movement is from Dhanu to Makar. There may
Dashaa of a sign just after the above 3 jumps usually results in important
often bad) changes in life.'
Chakra Dashaa
Chakra Dasa is described in BPHS, Ch. 46, Sl. 50-51. It is a very easy to
calculate Dashaa (at least the Mahaa Dashaa of it):
1. If the birth is at night, the Dashaa will commence from Lagna Rashi.
2. If the birth is during the day, the Dashaa will start from the Raashi, in
which the Lord of Lagna is placed.
3. If the birth is during Sandhyaa, the Dashaa will begin from the Raashi of
the second Bhaav.
The Dashaa of each Raashi is 10 years. As it is the Dashaa system of the 12
Raashi in the Zodiac, it has been named, as Chakra Dashaa.
Sandhyaa is the time span when Sun is ascending (we can track this verifying
if Sun is posited in the first Bhaav in Chalit Chakra) or descending (Sun in
7th Bhaav in Chalit Chakra). The time span of Sandhyaa is 5 Ghatikaa or two
hours.
This Dashaa isn't included in any software, nevertheless Paraashar mentions
in at a very early chapter in BPHS and therefore we can assume that it is a
very fundamental and important Dashaa - in fact he rejects all other Rashi
Dasa systems ('not appropriate' ) except Varnada, Niraayan Shool and
Chakra Dashaa (this includes most known and used Chara Dashaa as well!). He
really denotes Chakra Dashaa as the Dashaa system of the 12 Raashi in the
Zodiac'! (Varnad and Niraayan Shool Dashaa are Aayur-Dashaa indicating
longevity, death or at least severe problems.)
Each Raashi period is of 10 years leads to a total sum of 120 years, the
maximum life span of human beings in Kali Yug, like in Vinshottaree Dashaa.
Lagna is related to night births, Lagna Lord to day births. This is logical
because planets are carrying activities with regard to the Raashi/Bhaav they
are lording, *they* are the active energies and principles. Sandhyaa is a time
of transition and transformation: The Sun is wandering from day into night
(from the upper half - the bright half of the day above the Ascendant - into
the lower half - the dark half of the day below the ascendant). Starting
Mahaa Dashaa for natives born during Sandhyaa time are started from 2nd
Bhaav/Lagna.
Note: This principle could be referred to two conditional Dashaa as well,
Shodashottaree Dashaa and Shat Trinsh Sama Dashaa. I do not use them even if applicable - when the native is born during Sandhyaa.
