New (letters/sounds/vocabulary) Science P1 Preparation
(T. Andy)
This week in science the students will
start to study materials. We will look around the classroom and discuss the different things we can see and what they are made from (eg: a window is glass, a ruler is plastic, a table is wood etc). The materials that the students will be learning are: glass, wood, plastic, metal and rubber. I will ask the students to identify objects that are made from these materials. We will also discuss the properties of each (eg: rubber is bouncy, metal is strong and shiny, glass is see-through etc). The students will complete a chart where they compare different objects that they feel in a blind test and attempt to identify the material.
Living, non-living, alive, dead, live, die.
Breath, breathing, air. Eat, food, drink, water. Animals, plants and people are living things. Mountains, buildings etc are non-living things.
Grammar
This week in grammar the students will be
studying the difference between there is and there are. They will be taught the difference between singular and plural forms of nouns and which sentence applies to each, and then how to use full sentences to make observations about their environment. We will practice writing sentences in the workbook and in our notebooks, and the students will interpret pictures in the book. We will also use games like 'pass the bomb' to have fun and make observations about our surroundings.
