Course Synopsis This is a basic management course introducing non-ENM students to
management fundamentals and functions. In addition, students are
introduced to management issues such as business ethics and social
responsibility, and Islamic approaches to the management processes.
Course 1. To expose students to changing management paradigms, managerial
Objectives skills, roles of technology in management, social responsibility and
ethics, and other issues.
2. To familiarize students with techniques of environmental analyses
and management processes including planning, organizing, leading
and controlling.
3. To introduce Islamic approaches to, and viewpoints of management.
4. To introduce students to skills in analyzing management cases.
5. To develop communication skills through presentation of cases, class
discussions and group project.
Learning After finishing this course, the students are expected to be able to:
Outcomes 1. Identify and describe the basic management processes of planning,
organizing, leading and controlling.
2. Use concepts, theories and models to understand and analyze the
dynamics of managing organizations.
3. Apply management techniques in organizational contexts such as
decision making, communication and teamwork.
4. Discuss the essentials of management from the Islamic perspective.
