Dear international student, how is the spring term shaping up for you? We have plenty of
exciting opportunities to help you develop the skills necessary to graduate as a professional
and skilled individual.

Careers Network for International Students


Careers Network employs a dedicated international careers consultant working on your behalf
with assistance from a team of International student ambassadors. This year, the team won
the National Union of Students/UK Council for International Student Affairs
Internationalisation Award for best careers support for international students.
The service they provide is designed to support your skills and experiences development
through:

A series of workshops to help you understand the expectations of global recruiters.

Job seeking and assessment centre workshops designed specifically for international
students.

Events on campus including job fairs and employer networking events and
presentations.

Support in developing enterprise, innovation and entrepreneurship skills through our


centre of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Careers Network: College-based advice


Your team will support you with information and advice tailored specifically to your School.
You can sign up for College-based events or book an appointment to see a careers adviser.
Help is also available for CV and application form checking, and practice interviews.

Working during your studies

International students at degree level are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week
during term time, and full time in the vacation period on a temporary contract (not
permanent).

If you are a postgraduate student on a twelve month programme, you are considered
to be in 'term time' until the hand-in date for your dissertation in September.
Therefore you are not free to undertake full time work or a full time internship until
then.

Part time opportunities are available through the JobZone.

Careers in China with Mars

When people think of Mars, most often they think of chocolate and we do make some of the
best loved chocolate in the world. But were much more. We are a privately owned company
with approximately 70,000 Associates. Looking for a graduate training scheme to start in 2016
and speak Mandarin?
Come along on 5 March to find out more from Mandy Wishart, Global Talent Specialist.
Mandy will talk about the unique Mars culture and provide specific details about the Mars
General Management Trainee Program based in Beijing, China. The scheme is designed
specifically for graduates who hope to become general international senior managers, either
to pursue a career in China or to move globally in the future. They are looking for their future
senior leaders. The General Management program offers cross functional placements
including HR, marketing, sales, logistics, commercial, finance, manufacturing, engineering
and R&D over three years.

The Careers Network website has a range of resources to help you to find a job in your
home country. You can also gain free access to Going Global, a huge database of information
on employers, vacancies and industry trends in a wide range of countries. To take up
employment back home, bear in mind that you may also have to meet early closing dates.
Other sections on the international web pages include country profiles, international
employers profiles, and the stories of international alumni giving valuable advice on how to
secure that graduate job.
