Hymn

Introduction
26 As

they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it
to the disciples, saying, Take this and eat it, for this is my body.

27 And

he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, Each of
you drink from it, 28 for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his
people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.29 Mark my wordsI will not
drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Fathers Kingdom.
30 Then

they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.

Matthew26:26-30 NLT

Day One
Come, thou fount of every blessing
God is the source of every good thing (James 1:7); a good marriage, a good job, a good
standing in society, our good desires. No one is good-only God (Luke 18:19).
Our world is full of people with evil intentions, lying lips, greedy eyes, and people who
deliberately frustrate others plans-dream killers (Proverbs 6:16-18). But from God, we
get acceptance of our works (Psalm 40:5). His marvelous works manifests in our daily
lives (Psalms 92:5). He takes our efforts, our plans, or dreams, and makes them
successful (Proverbs 16:3, Proverbs 3:6). Even our anxieties, discouragements, and cares
of this world, and heavy burdens, are all redeemed for good by him (Philippians 4:6,
Matthew 6:25-34, Matthew 11:28).
So today we bid him to come; to come, thou fount of every blessing.
The one who is good (Psalms 136:1); the one in whom there are no shadows or darkness
in him (James 1:17, 1 John 1:5). He is light (1John 1:5). No darkness is thick enough to
hide the wicked from his eyes (Job 34:22). His eyes (the eyes of the LORD) search the
whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him (2
Chronicles 16:9).
When we turn to him, His light guides our steps (Psalms 37:23); that all things may turn
out for good (Romans 8:28), because our steps are directed by God (Proverbs 20:24). So
today we ask God to come. To come and see our child like faith in his every blessing for
our lives and for his glory; Come, thou fount of every blessing.

Day Two
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Our hearts are the most deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9).
From our hearts, we are known as dishonest, frauds, crafty, double dealing people
(Matthew 15:18). In our hearts we plan how to tear down our loved ones and friends
even though we know God does not like it (Zechariah 8:17). We scheme on how our
colleagues should not get the promotion-hiding our snares before them as we do so
(Psalms 64:5). We pretend to care when we are given wise counsel but continue in our
foolish ways (Proverbs 12:15).
But today we ask God to tune our hearts (Joel 2:13). We trust our hearts will be
disciplined (Proverbs 19:20) when we come to him. Today with tuned hearts, we will
sing about Gods grace; Gods grace that takes hardened hearts and turns them into
hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26).
We delight ourselves in this grace that gives us new hearts (Psalms 37:4); that we may
speak of that which is graceful, beautiful and wholesome from our hearts (Ephesians
4:9).
Today LORD, tune my heart, to sing thy grace.

Day Three
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? (Psalms 130:3)
Gods mercies toward us are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Everyday we
do what we do not want to do (Romans 7:15); but God is patient with us (2 Peter 3:9),
teaching us how to live (Titus 2:11-14). He gives us faith, faith in him (Romans 12:3). It is
by faith that we are justified (Ephesians 2:8); and without faith it is impossible to please
God (Hebrews 11:6). Today we remember His streams of mercies toward us are never
ceasing. Like the Psalmist, we remember;
He forgives all my sins
and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death
and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things.
My youth is renewed like the eagles!
The LORD gives righteousness
and justice to all who are treated unfairly
Psalms 103:3-6 NLT

10

Day Four
call for songs of loudest praise.
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we
are! But the people who belong to this world don't recognize that we are God's children
because they don't know him (1 John 3:1)
To behold what manner of love that God the father has given unto us calls for the
loudest praise (Psalms 98:4); his every blessing, his never ceasing mercies toward us,
and his love that endures forever (Psalms 100:5). The best gift we can give him other
than obedience to him (1samuel 15:22) is our thanksgiving (Psalms 50:14).
We cant buy him stuff to give him (Psalms 51) coz he owns everything (Psalms 24:1)
and prefers a broken and contrite heart (Psalms 51:7). Because Gods love is better than
life, it calls for songs of loudest praise (Psalms 63:3).
Today we sing to the one who sustains all things (Colossians 1:17), the beginning and
the end (Revelation 1:8). Our lives hold together because of you LORD. To you be all
praise and blessings, glory and honour, dominion and power now and forever (Jude
1:25, Revelation 5:13).
Amen

11

Day Five
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
The LORDs light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive. Proverbs
20:27
Two wise words from ancient times; Socrates said that an unexamined life is not worth
living. Solomon said as a man thinks in his heart so is he (Proverbs 23:7).
No one knows the heart of the man except the spirit of the man (1 Corinthians 2:11). In
the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians
2:16). He (the Holy Spirit) is our teacher; our counselor, our comforter, our helper (John
14:26). He teaches us how to worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
When we examine ourselves we see how like the disciples we dont even know how to
pray (Luke 11:1). But the spirit of God makes for us intercession (Romans 8:26). He
helps us in our human weakness to make a melodious sonnet to God (Romans 8:27); to
sing a new song unto God (Psalms 96:1). Let us today set our minds to think of being
taught these praiseworthy things (Philippians 4:8). It is of great value to think about
God (Proverbs 25:2); to be taught at his feet (Luke 10:39). Today, Lord teach me some
melodious sonnet

12

Day Six
sung by flaming tongues above.
I askask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of gloryto make you
intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so
that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do Ephesians 1:18 MSG
We need our eyes of understanding to be opened (Ephesians 1:18).
The troubles and cares of this world often choke our vision of Gods reality (Matthew
13). Sometimes even our ears become dull to hear Gods truth (Matthew 13:15). We see
and hear but do not understand Gods testimony (Mark 4:24).
We need to be apocalyptic; to see and hear all creation testify of Gods goodness
(Psalms 19:1). To have a glimpse of the elders and heavenly hosts singing praise to God
(Revelation 4:10); to hear what the Spirit is saying to us (Mark 4:9, Revelation 3:22).
With this apocalyptic vision, we can hear songs sung by flaming tongues above; a joy
unspeakable (1 Peter 1:8). Today with all creation, we praise the LORD (Psalm 150:6)

13

Day Seven
Praise the mount! Im fixed upon it,
So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work
enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever
useless. 1 Corinthians 15:58 NLT
How we need to be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in good works for the
LORD. For we are Christs workmanship, re-created to do good works that God had
prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10); so we think and do whatsoever
things are pure, noble, praise worthy and any virtue amongst us (Philippians 4:6). All
this we do as if we were doing it unto the lord (Colossians 3:23). We are fixed upon this.
We praise God for we know no good thing abides in our flesh (Romans 7:18). It is God
who works in us (Philippians 2:13). Today we remember to praise the greater one inside
us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4)! This is our solemn resolution.

14

Day Eight
mount of thy redeeming love.
For God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1
Corinthians 6:20
God purchased us with the blood of Christ (Acts 20:28).
It is the blood that redeems for the blood of bulls and sheep could not (Hebrew 10:4).
We overcome the evil one with the blood of the lamb (Revelation 12:11). What can wash
away my sin, nothing but the blood of Jesus!
God says even though our sins are red as blood, he will make us white as milk (Isaiah
1:18). His redeeming love is what we are fixated on (Hebrews 12:2). Nothing can
separate us from his love (Romans 8:31-39). Not death, not life, not things to come, not
things in this world, not angels not demons, nothings above, nothing belownothing
can separate us from Gods redeeming love.

15

Day Nine
Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
In this life, we press forward toward the call that God has on our life (Philippians 3:14).
We conduct ourselves not as people who have arrived but we forget what is behind us
and look to Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith. He is our Ebenezer (1
Samuel 7:12); our very present help in time of need (Psalms 46:1).
Through Christ we learn to be content, in want and in plenty (Philippians 4:11-13). We
consider our afflictions light in view of the joy set before us in Christ our Ebenezer
(Hebrews 12:2, 2 Corinthians 4:17). Not a single hair can fall from our heads without
Christ knowing (Matthew 10:30).
So we count it all joy when various afflictions come upon us (James 1:2). For in this
world we will have many troubles (John 16:33). But we fear not for Christ has overcome
the world. He is our Ebenezer. God is glorified in our plenty and in our wants.

16

Day Ten
hither by thy help Im come;
The God of the valley is still God in the mountain (1 Kings 20:28).
He is the great I AM (Exodus 3:14).
God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). What we
experience today is a gift from the loving hands of God (1 Corinthian 4:7). What is man
that God is so mindful of? (Psalms 8:4) He has made him a little lower than angles and
yet has made him fearfully and wonderfully (Psalms 119:14). His works are known full
well (Psalms 19:1).
Yet in and of ourselves we have no ability to know God except by Gods grace (Romans
12:3). So by his help today, we come to him. His spirit draws us. As we go closer to him,
he comes closer to us (James 4:8).

17

Day Eleven
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
We are pilgrims in this world (1 Peter 2:11).
Our pilgrimage is one of faith (2 Corinthians 5:7); and we are not alone, many others
have gone before us (Hebrews 11:3). In this journey there are three things that remain;
faith, hope and love (1corinthians 13:13). Faith is being sure of things we hope for
(Hebrews 11:1). We hope in Gods good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).
Today, hope in Gods good pleasure. We have not because we ask not (James 4:3). It is
to our Fathers good pleasure to give us all thing asked in the name of Jesus that the son
may be glorified (Luke 12:32). These things are however not our ultimate joyous
rewards. God is our reward (Genesis 15:1). He is our pleasure in who we live and
breathe and have our being (Acts 17:28).
Do not let your heart be sick because of deferred hope (Proverbs 13:12).
Hope in Gods good pleasure.

18

Day Twelve
safely to arrive at home.
To finish well (2 Timothy 4:6-8); to hear God say well done (Matthew 25:23), is our
desire (Psalms 42:1).
We want at the end of our pilgrimage to safely arrive home that we may abide in God
and him in us (1 John 4:16). This is how we will bear much fruit in this world (John
15:4). Fruit that God will say well done, good and faithful servant.
Today, we ask the words (Joshua 1:8) and the person of Christ (Matthew3:7) make their
home in us (Acts 16:31) and we make our home in him (Luke 9:26) that we may safely
arrive home.
To be forever in the safety of the fathers arms (John 14:3).

19

Day Thirteen
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
There is none righteous; none that seeks the Lord (Romans 3:11), everybody has sinned
and fallen short of Gods glory (Romans 6:23).
There is actually more joy in heaven when one sinner repents than ninety nine
righteous people (Luke 15:7). Jesus came to seek and save those who were lost (Luke
19:11). He came not for the well but for the sick, for they are the ones who need a doctor
(Mark 2:17). He died and rose again for the righteous and unrighteous (Acts 24:15).
But this is the good news today, how we know God demonstrates his love toward us,
while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Jesus sought me when a
stranger; when his ways, his promises, his purposes, even his presence was alien to me.
That God so loved you and I that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes
in him would not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
The eyes are the Lord is looking to and fro for those willing to repent and be baptized
for the remission of their sins (Act 2:38). Jesus sought me when a stranger.

20

Day Fourteen
wandering from the fold of God;
We are not to neglect the habit of meeting together as believers (Hebrews 10:25).
It is where two or three are gathered in the name of Christ that Christ is (Matthew
18:20). But how often we wander; deceived by the lust of eyes, the lust of the flesh and
the pride of life (1 John 2:16). We wander while acknowledging God with our lips and
yet our hearts are far from him (Titus 1:16). We become lukewarm; neither hot nor cold
(Revelation 3:16). We believe the empty philosophies of man and grandmother fables (1
Timothy 6:20). We follow ways that seem right to us but in the end lead to death and
destruction (Proverbs 14:12, Proverbs 16:25).
Today we repent of wandering from the fold of God.
We repent and put our trust in Gods infinite wisdom, grace and mercy that rescue us
(Ephesians 2:8). We trust he is slow to get angry with our wandering and has been
waiting for our repentance (Numbers 14:18); he will therefore forgive us (Psalms 86:5).
Amen.

21

Day Fifteen
he, to rescue me from danger,
God rescues us from ourselves (Romans 7:25), sin (Romans 8:2, 1corinthians 15:57), the
world (Romans 12:2) and evil (Revelation 12:11).
He rescues us from danger. The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is life, eternal
life (Romans 6:23). This is the good news today; that Christ has destroyed the works of
Satan (1 John 3:8). We are saved, not by works but by grace (Ephesians 2:8). For we
were eternally condemned, under the wrath of God for our good works is like filthy
rags before God (Isaiah 64:6).
He rescues us to the way of love;
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesnt want what it doesnt have.
Love doesnt strut,
Doesnt have a swelled head,
Doesnt force itself on others,
Isnt always me first,
Doesnt fly off the handle,
Doesnt keep score of the sins of others,
Doesnt revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end;
understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we
say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes
will be canceled.
1 corinthians13MSG

22

Day Sixteen
interposed his precious blood.
Christ gave us his righteousness when he spilled his blood (2 corinthians 5:21).
We are made into the image of Christ because of the blood of Christ (2 Corinthians
3:18). The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin and death (1 john 1:7). We join the
body of the believers through the blood of Christ (Acts 20:28). The blood was shed once
for all (Hebrews 9:12). Because of the blood, we have a high priest who understands us
(Hebrews 4:15). He prays for us (Romans 8:34). He defends us when the devil accuses
us (Revelation 12:7-11). He is an ever present help in time of need (Hebrews 13:5,
Psalm46:1). We have peace beyond understanding because of the blood (John 14:27,
Colossians 3:15). So today we remember the blood in the way the master told us to;
In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, "This cup is the new
covenant between God and his people--an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this
to remember me as often as you drink it." 1corinthians 11:24 NLT

23

Day Seventeen
O to grace how great a debtor
All that we once counted as gain to us we count as loss for knowing Christ (Philippians
3:7-8).
We are now slaves to Christ (1 Corinthians 7:22) and to righteousness (Romans 6:8). We
are crucified with Christ (Galatians 2:20). We no longer live for ourselves but for the
resurrected Christ (2 Corinthians 5:14-16). We bear the marks of Christ (Galatians 6:7).
These marks are our debt to his grace (2 Corinthians 4:10).
Today we are grateful for Gods saving grace.
We consider it pure joy when we face various trials (James 1:2). We know that when our
faith is tested, our endurance has a chance to grow, We let endurance grow, for when
your it is fully developed, we will be perfect and complete, needing nothing (James 1:34).

24

Day Eighteen
daily Im constrained to be!
We die daily (1 Corinthians 15:31)
We are crucified with Christ (Galatians 2:20). We dont therefore live aimlessly
(Matthew 10:16); we discipline our bodies from the pleasures of this world (1
Corinthians 9:27). We love not the world or there things thereof (1 john 2:17-17).
We instead indulge in food that the world does not know of (John 4:32). Our food is to
do the will of the Father (John 4:34).This is the way we constrain ourselves (Matthew
7:13-14). So today, we fight the good fight of faith constraining ourselves to the straight
and narrow path. We fight not as one who beats the air but like a good soldier of Christ
we our shield of faith, breastplate of righteousness, sword of the spirit, which is the
word of God, belt of truth, helmet of salvation and our feet ready with the gospel of
peace (Ephesians 6:10).
For many are called but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14); we are chosen to be are royal
priesthood, a holy people after God (1 Peter 2:9).
So we daily constrain ourselves to the debt of Gods grace toward us to live the life of
faith in him.

25

Day Nineteen
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
When Moses asked God to show him his glory, God told him he will show him his
goodness (Exodus 33:18-19).
Gods goodness endures forever (Psalms 100:5). It draws us to repentance (Romans 2:4).
His goodness keeps us from falling and to present us blameless before him (Jude 1:25).
Today, we restrict ourselves to Gods goodness.
We trust in his loving kindness that endures forever (Psalms 136:18). We handcuff
ourselves to his steadfast love (Lamentations 3:22-23).

26

Day Twenty
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Jesus prayed that we be one as he is one with the father (John 17:21).
How our hearts need to be one with God and with one another; bound with the cords of
love that cannot be broken (Psalms 133:1). It is by love for one another that men will
know we are Jesus disciples (John 13:35). If we dwell in love then God dwells in us (1
John 4:13). For God is love (1 John 4:8). We confess our sins to one another (1John 1:9)
and come back to God who will not reject a broken and contrite heart (Psalms 51:17)
when our hearts wander from the grace of God (Romans 7:20).
Today, we bind our wandering hearts to God who makes a crown of beauty instead of
ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of
despair. That we be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display
of his splendor (Isaiah 61:3).

27

Day Twenty One

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Our conscience either excuses us or accuses us (Romans 12:5).
When we are tempted we should not say God is tempting us (James 1:13). For God does
not tempt us with evil but each of us is tempted by our own lust; we can feel our
wandering heart (James 1:14). Our sin is ever before us (Psalms 51:3). In sin we were
conceived (Psalms 51:5). This sinful nature wages war with our spirit (Galatians 5:7).
Our spirit is willing to serve God but our flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41).
Today, we acknowledge our weakness. For our weakness, Gods strength is made
perfect (2 Corinthians 12:9).

28

Day Twenty Two

prone to leave the God I love;
Against God only have I sinned (Psalms 51:4).
We are prone to crucify Christ a fresh (Hebrews 6:6); prone to unite the body of Christ
with that which prostitutes itself to us in this world (1 Corinthians 6:15).Yet we (should)
know that friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4). Today, we submit
our wills to God (James 4:7). For the things we have repeatedly done that our minds be
reprobate, that we dont feel it is as sin, yet we have departed ways from God (Romans
1:28). We are prone to leave the God we love. But today we submit our wills to him. To
submit to not forget his benefits how he;
He forgives your sinsevery one.
He heals your diseasesevery one.
He redeems you from hellsaves your life!
He crowns you with love and mercya paradise crown.
He wraps you in goodnessbeauty eternal.
He renews your youthyoure always young in his presence.
6-18 GOD makes everything come out right;
he puts victims back on their feet.
He showed Moses how he went about his work,
opened up his plans to all Israel.
GOD is sheer mercy and grace;
not easily angered, hes rich in love.
He doesnt endlessly nag and scold,
nor hold grudges forever.
He doesnt treat us as our sins deserve,
nor pay us back in full for our wrongs.
As high as heaven is over the earth,
so strong is his love to those who fear him.
And as far as sunrise is from sunset,
he has separated us from our sins.
As parents feel for their children,
GOD feels for those who fear him.
He knows us inside and out,
keeps in mind that were made of mud.
29

Men and women dont live very long;

like wildflowers they spring up and blossom,
But a storm snuffs them out just as quickly,
leaving nothing to show they were here.
GODs love, though, is ever and always,
eternally present to all who fear him,
Making everything right for them and their children
as they follow his Covenant ways
and remember to do whatever he said
Psalm 103 MSG

30

Day Twenty Three

heres my heart, O take and seal it,
If Gods people who are called by his name would turn away from evil and seek his
face, he will hear from heaven and heal our land (1 Chronicles 7:14).
He will take our hearts of stone and give us a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26). He will
make us concerned about the things he is concerned about (Colossians 3:2). He will seal
us with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13) and no one can pluck us from his hands (John
10:28).
Today we give our hearts to God.
Arent we to love him with all our passions, prayers and intelligence (Mathew 22:37)?
We are not our own; we have been bought for a price for a high calling (1 Corinthians
6:20).

31

Day Twenty Four

seal it for thy courts above.
In Gods house, there are many mansions (John 14:2).
If it were not so, Christ would have told us. He has gone to prepare a place for us where
moth and rust does not destroy (Matthew 6:20). From our worship here, we wait for the
glorious return our Lord Jesus (Titus 2:13) for us to join him in the courts above (1
Thesalonians 4:17).
Since we are his sheep (Psalms 95:7), though the day will come like a thief (1
Thessalonians 5:2), we shall know his voice (John 10:27).
We do not fear for we are children of love (1 John 4:18).
God himself goes before us, he will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8).

32

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! Im fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Sorrowing I shall be in spirit,

Till released from flesh and sin,
Yet from what I do inherit,
Here Thy praises Ill begin;
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help Ive come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,

Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.

O to grace how great a debtor

Daily Im constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Heres my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

33

O that day when freed from sinning,

I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How Ill sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.
"Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" is a Christian hymn written by the 18th
century pastor and hymnist Robert Robinson. Robert Robinson penned the words at age
22 in the year 1757
