MORALITY IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION; THE
HOW TO APPROACH
Morality in our religious education programs does
not start with rules and regulations, it starts in our
hearts. The love for God and church motivates us to
live a moral life. This moral life needs to be deliberate,
careful and well-structured in our religious education
programs. Many have called morality in our schools
the hidden curriculum, but that sometimes places
too many limits on it. The first place to start building
a Religious Education program that is responding to
morality is to focus on empathy. Empathy is the key
to understanding the beauty of Catholic morality and
the more we practice it the more moral we become.

THE SPIRITUALITY OF CHILDREN PRACTICAL IDEAS THAT FOSTER
FAITH GROWTH

As a Relationship Manager, Ms. Valdez is responsible for

outreach and relationship development to 7 dioceses in
the Southwest region which includes, Colorado Springs,
Denver, Gallup, Pueblo, Phoenix, Santa Fe & Tucson.

The process of faith formation begins when the

person realizes that faith is already present within us.
Grace helps us see, hear, and feel this faith in God.
Children of all ages also have this faith. The challenge
of the catechist is to help people discover that faith.
In this workshop, we will focus on practical ideas
to help children discover and celebrate their faith.
Ready-made and hands on ideas will be discussed
that are ready to implement that will help foster the
growth in faith in your catechetical session.

BUILDING UNITY, HERE, THERE AND

EVERYWHERE
A workshop offering a guide for a new emphasis in
putting the Gospel into practice in daily life. The
charism of unity, a gift of light and love, promotes a
new lifestyle which brings about unity and universal
brotherhood in the world. John Paul II, in his letter
Novo Millennio Ineunte, proposed it to the entire
Catholic Church referring to it as a spirituality of
communion. It is focused on a Gospel-based love
which, when put into practice, revives individuals
and communities, bringing a new spirit to every
expression of life.

MISSIONARY DISCIPLESHIP IN A
CULTURALLY DIVERSE CHURCH: READING
THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES

Rose Loughran & Michael Johnson,

The Focolare Movement, Tucson, Arizona

For Catholics in the United States, Christian

discipleship is lived in a context largely shaped by
cultural diversity and pluralism. How to witness the
truth of the Gospel today? Pope Francis invites us to
respond as missionaries. Yes, missionary disciples
who start with an encounter with the Lord and are
ready to go into the peripheries of Church and
society to share the Good News. This requires not
only understanding our current reality (i.e., reading
the signs of the times), but also developing the
appropriate intercultural competencies to be effective
ministers in our communities. Join an exciting
conversation.

Rose and Michael are members of the Focolare Movement

which is present everywhere in the world and is like a
vast and varied family. This movement began in 1943
during the Second World War and is a current of spiritual
and social renewal, A people born from the Gospel as
described by its founder Chiara Lubich (1920-2008). Its
members work cooperatively, following the inspiration of
Jesus prayer to the Father: May they all be one. They are
committed to building relationships of fraternity - bridges
- among all persons regardless of culture, age, vocation,
religion, or conviction.

JESUS IS YAQUI
This seminar is designed to raise two inquiries: Who
are the Yaqui? Who do they see themselves to be,
and their place in the universe inhabited by Jesus?
Who is Jesus to the Yaqui? What makes Jesus

The seminar does not pretend to give scientific
answers to these questions but merely attempts to
raise possibilities for answering them so that in the
end each one of us would be able to ask ourselves:
Who is Jesus for me?
The seminar gives an overview of the history, culture
