The B8 Audi S4 (2008+) is the high performance variant of Audis compact executive A4. The S4 comes stock with the same engine as the A6
/ A7, Q5, Q7, and S5. It is a luxury sport sedan that features a supercharged v6 3.0 TFSI engine and Quattro all-wheel drive, fully capable of
pushing 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque without installing any Audi performance parts.

Audi Engine Specs

Technical specifications include:

Six-cylinder engine
Aluminum-alloy engine block and cylinder head
24-valve DOHC with variable valve timing
Induction / Fuel Induction Supercharged TFSI
Audi claims it does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds with a top track speed of 155 mph.
Audi TFSI combines direct injection and forced induction supercharging or turbocharging, resulting in high power output with greater
fuel efficiency.

Furthermore, quick and responsive DSG (dual-clutch automated manual) is available returning 1 mpg more on the highway and the S4 has a
hidden launch control feature for those that want to peel out from the start.

Audi ECU Chiptuning

While this sort of engine may seem more difficult to upgrade than previous engine types, tuners like APR have developed ECU upgrades to
pull out impressive power gains for the 3.0 T. Specifically, an APR Stage 1 tune is said to achieve higher peak numbers of 362 horsepower
and 345 feet/pound of torque, while gaining up to 77 all-wheel horse and 57 ft/lb of torque available throughout the power band. On 100
octane, were looking at an astounding 385 AWHP! This is already a huge improvement, and this is without requiring any type of hardware
installation.
Interested in upgrading hardware? For Audi enthusiasts that want to step it up a notch with their mods list and feel that extra torque, APR has
developed an aftermarket supercharger pulley that will spin the supercharger faster. This increases air flow and doubles the low-end gains of
the stage 1 flash, which equates to increased supercharger speed and boost pressure. S4 drivers can immediately experience torque gains
with an added 80 torque and 109 horse at all four wheels. This would qualify customers for the APR Stage 2+ tuning software upgrade, which
yields 402 AWHP and 383 AWTQ on 100 octane. At this point, only the supercharger pulley kit is required, though installation of a
performance exhaust is recommended.

Taking it a step further, additional mods can include a performance exhaust system, intake system, headers, downpipes and DSG tune. There
are headers on the market that are proven to yield 30 horse and downpipes that add up to 20+. With the Stage 2 tune and a few of Audi S4
performance aftermarket parts, an S4 can maximize optimal air flow and place more power to the ground, yielding 450 to even 500 horse.

Whats next?
Since 2012, there have been rumors of what a stage 3 supercharged engine can do. Were not sure if its still coming, but you can bet there
are still some die hard enthusiasts waiting to make the investment to push the S4 to levels yet to be seen. A rumored stage 3 kit can
potentially reach up to 650 brake horsepower. Of course, this would require a complete engine rebuild to handle these massive gains. It is
also said that they would offer this in two options a low boost output or high boost output kit. This type of power would revolutionize where
this engine can go, its all a matter of when.
