Description

Reporting to the Director of Transportation and Logistics, individual will be a point of


expertise for import practices and legislation across the Supply Chain.
Liaison with shipping lines and freight agents is a daily part of this role,
Review import procedures, reporting and advising on these, making recommendations for
improvement where appropriate.
As well as review and analysis, this will also include the engagement of stakeholders at
many levels and across divisions within the business and with our partners.
Responsible for the tendering and management of Import freight rates for the business
and for reviewing and approving any exceptional costs incurred through importing
products. While not directly responsible for duty classifications, a good knowledge of this
subject is also important for the role.

Job Responsibilities:

Establish new and maintain existing procedures necessary to remain in compliance with
US Customs legal requirements
Interface with US Customs brokers and forwarders on compliance issues and continuous
process improvement
Manage and develop import SOPs and corporate compliance policies
Conduct internal regulatory audits and training; assist in the maintenance of record
keeping procedures
Work on other assignments and special projects relating to logistical issues as assigned
by the Manager, Import/Export/Traffic
Manage the movement of products/equipment/materials in and/or out of the country in
accordance with organizational policy and procedure, and to comply with relevant local,
country and international law and process.
Manage the necessary documentation and online forms for the efficient, cost-effective and
lawful execution of all import activities.
Maintain and share with colleagues as appropriate, personal knowledge of all relevant
import/export law and procedures; tariffs and duties; licenses and restrictions.
Anticipate research and report on future changes in import/export laws and in relevant
local territory practices, and ensure such knowledge is factored into the planning of the
department's own strategy, resources and procedures.
Plan and implement import strategy and activities consistent with overall aims and
requirements of the organization.
Manage all staff reporting to the position so as to effectively recruit, train, evaluate,
motivate, delegate and monitor their activities.
Liaise with other departments in order to establish and maintain effective and relevant /import
activities and support in relation to the organization's sales, purchasing, materials management,
production and overall operating functions.
Monitor record, analyses and report on activities, trends, results and recommendations relating to
import activities.

Investigate, plan and implement strategically effective and relevant transport methods, which
meet optimally the needs of the organization and its suppliers and customers.
Manage language and communications translation issues and activities as necessary to enable
effective relations, distribution and integration of imported/exported material, product, equipment
within the supply chain of importer and exporter, (for example handling instructions, operating
manuals, product training, etc.).
Travel required approximately 25%.

Preferred Skills:

It is essential that the individual have an extensive knowledge of the Import Industry. Strong
analytical skills with good Excel knowledge are also important, as youll frequently produce both
routine and ad-hoc reports and analysis, making recommendations to ensure the best approach
is adopted at all times to satisfy both commercial and operational requirements.
Some knowledge SQL and Access would be advantageous.
Duty Drawback experience

Experience Required:

BS/BA degree or 5+ years of US Customs and regulatory compliance experience


C-TPAT, AES/ISF, binding rulings, deem export, encryption technology background/experience a
plus
Must be a team player
Continuous process improvement focused
Must be able to communicate well in both oral and written form
Must be multi-task oriented and flexible to assist in a variety of tasks
Knowledge of import/export documentation, procedures and regulations
