3 Present Continuous

am/is/are + talking/playing/leaving
Usamos o Present Continuous para falar de:
aes que esto a decorrer no momento em que se fala:
I cant go out now. Its raining a lot.
(No posso sair agora. Est a chover muito.)

coisas que esto a acontecer por um perodo de tempo curto:


Where are you staying this week? In a hotel.
(Onde que ests hospedado esta semana? Num hotel.)

planos pessoais num futuro prximo:


Hes going to England next month.
(Ele vai para a Inglaterra no prximo ms.)

+ consoante dobram a consoante.

Verbos polissilbicos com a ltima slaba acentuada que


terminam em vogal + consoante dobram a consoante.

Em ingls britnico o l dobra sempre, mesmo quando a


ltima slaba no acentuada.

Nota: o y e o w nunca dobram.

Usamos o Present Simple para


falar de hbitos, rotinas, situaes
permanentes, horrios e verdades
universais.

Usamos o Present Continuous para falar


de aes que esto a decorrer no momento
em que se fala, situaes temporrias ou
planos pessoais num futuro prximo.

Jane never goes to school by bus.

Jane is doing her homework now.

(A Jane nunca vai para a escola de


autocarro.)

(Agora a Jane est a fazer o trabalho de casa.)

She lives in Dublin.

(O Alan est a dar aulas em Portugal este ano.)

Alan is teaching in Portugal this year.

(Ela vive em Dublin.)

The school year starts in September.

Paul is coming round to see me this


afternoon.

(O ano escolar comea em setembro.)

(O Paul vem ver-me esta tarde.)
