7. SMS Communication
1. Ensure your SIM card is activated with SMS enabled and you have SIM phone number available. If you have
CDMA device ensure data plan includes SMS and you have mobile # available.
2. Place the SIM card into the device. Skip this step if you have CDMA device.
3. Power up the device by connecting device to 12v DC.
4. Ensure device GSM/CDMA LED is blinking based on LED definition.
5. Using your mobile phone or SMS gateway send +XT:1008 command. Example +XT:1008,5555555555 (phone#
or SMS gateway is the # where you want device to reply back too).
6. Successful reply will be $$359134032774006,1008,5555555555##
7. Once you have set SMS to reply to your mobile or gateway, you can now send other commands to device
via SMS per device protocol documentation.

Prior to doing a firmware update on any Xirgo product you will need a FTP server where you can host firmware files.
You will need the following credentials once you setup you FTP server in order to compile a +XT:1004 command:
a. DIR is the subdirectory under which the Firmware files will be stored
b. FUSN is the username used for login into the FTP
c. FPWD is the password used for login into the FTP
d. FIP is an FTP server IP address in the form YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY or a DNS name
3.
4.
Once you have the FTP credentials, compile a 1004 command, Example +XT:1004,/,xirgo3,xirgo1,68.237.174.21
Per example below send a SMS to device phone# with +XT:1004 command as show in step #3
1004 command
sent to device
phone#
Successful
response back
5.
6.
Now the device is ready for Firmware update. The XT-4700 series of device has one main firmware file.
Construct +XT:1006,<bb>, <filename> command to update MAIN FW. Example +XT:1006,1,X001-1111F2
7. Send constructed command via SMS, example #1. Once the SMS is sent #2 is first reply back from device with indication
that device has begun DOTA process. The final response #3 indicates successfully firmware update. This completed process
of updating Main firmware on device.
