2009 WORLD SITUATION (written in August

2009)
Reading of the birth chart of the world is
done by placing Lagna (Ascendance) in Aries. The
planets that transit from one zodiac sign to
another are therefore read to be in the Houses in
relation to Aries as the first House.

WORLD ECONOMY
The biggest financial crisis in recent memory
which erupted in 2008 and continued into 2009
was caused by Saturn (7) transit into Leo since
August 2007. Saturn (7) in Leo, the fifth
(Children) House is the Special Position of
Hardship. Leo, the fifth House, is related to fun,
enjoyment, unexpected luck especially from
speculation, and children which can be construed
to be the world’s general population. Hardship in
the fifth House therefore turns enjoyment into
stress and financial losses, as well as raised
caution in spending. The business that suffers the
most is that related to financial speculation and
stock market.
The situation worsened in April 2008 when
Mars (3) transit into Cancer opposite to Rahu (8)
in Capricorn. Mars (3) is the Ruler of the eighth
(Death) House while Rahu (8) is the Ruler of the
eleventh (Luck) House. Death therefore reached
luck and adversely affected luck badly. The
situation was further aggravated by the yearly
Taksa nature of Saturn (7) which will be
explained later. Mars (3) in Cancer is in the fourth
(Home) House. This House is about assets and
real estate. Death therefore reached assets and
financial well being too. All this occurred while
Saturn (7) is in the Special position of Hardship
adding to the injury. Even when Mars (3) later
transit into Leo, Mars (3) itself is also in the
Special Position of Hardship in Leo, making the
matter worse.
The crisis deepened until early 2009. Early in
2009, virtually all economists forecast the crisis
to continue and that the world economy will
scrape the bottom for at least a few years.
However, in astrology, the lowest level was
reached in April 2009. Since April 2008, by way of
yearly Taksa Saturn (7) has no special position.
This changed in April 2009 when it became a
Victory (Tongchai) planet until April 2010. This
lessened the bad aspect of Hardship position.
World economy in 2009 will therefore start
to improve from April 2009 onward. In
September 2009, Saturn (7) will transit into
Virgo, leaving its Special Position of Hardship and
improving the situation.
However, in October 2009, Mars (3) will
transit into Cancer and will be opposite Rahu (8)
in Capricorn again. This will again temporarily
weaken the world economy but the effect
will be light because by that time Saturn (7) will
already be out of the Hardship position. Clear
improvement will be apparent from early
November 2009 onward when Rahu (8) transit
out of Capricorn into Sagittarius.
SUMMARY
World economy in 2009 will start to
improve from April 2009 onward.
World economy will temporarily weaken in
October 2009 but the effect will be light.

(A)-World economy did turn around from mid
2009.
(B)- 26 October 2009, UK announced contrary to
expectation that its third Quarter economy
contracted -0.4% quarter on quarter (-5.2% year
on year).
(C)- 29 October 2009, US Conference Board
released US Consumer Confidence Index for
October at 47.7, a surprising disappointment
against the forecast of 53.1, representing a
significant dip to the second-lowest level since
May 2009.

WORLD POLITICS
There will be no major incident in 2009. In
November 2009, Rahu (8) which is the Rule of
the eleventh (Luck) House will transit into
Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the ninth (Exaltation)
House that is related to holiness, family harmony,
progress, honor and goodness. Not only will world
economy improve, but world politics will also
improve substantially. This is going to be
significant for the USA. USA is considered to be
represented by Leo. If we start from Leo as the
first (Self) House, then Sagittarius is its fifth
(Children) House of fun and enjoyment. It will
make US international relation much more
cordial, especially with North Korea and Iran.

15 November 2009, US President Obama met the
leader of Burma in APEC meeting in Singapore.
12 December 2009, after three day high level
talk with US, North Korea unexpectedly agreed to
resume the six-party talk on nuclear
disarmament.

DISEASES AND NATURAL DISASTERS

The risk of wide spread disease (there was a
H1N1 swine flu outbreak in early 2009) usually
occurs when Uranus (0), the planet of sudden
calamity, is on the cusp of moving from one
zodiac sign to another. The period of maximum
risk is the few months just before it goes out of
one sign, and the few months after it goes into
another sign. This can be compared to a bird
flying in to perch on a small tree branch. Its
weight will make the branch quiver both when it
flies in and flies out.
Uranus (0) transit went from Aquarius into
Pisces in March 2009. The risk of disease was
therefore strongest in the first half of 2009. In
Pisces, Uranus (0) is in the twelfth (Loss) House
that is related to secret plots, underhand dealing
and double cross. This is the nature of a wide
spread disease which goes around the world in
utter silence and without warning. Throughout
2009, the risk of H1N1 flu will be on and off, but
will disappear completely when Jupiter (5) transit
into Pisces in 2010.
Natural disasters are numerous each year,
but the really heavy ones will occur in October
2009 when Mars (3) transit into Cancer opposite
to Rahu (8) in transit in Capricorn. These two
planets are the wind Element pair. Damage
from giant storms and flood will be
especially heavy. There will be major earth
quakes as well, especially in the last week
of October 2009 and the first week of
November 2009 when Rahu (8) transit moves
from Capricorn into Sagittarius. The locations
with the biggest risks are island countries, such
as Japan and Indonesia.

in many decades in Bengal, India with hundreds
of death.
There was no major earth quake in the last week
of October/ first week of November 2009. But El
Salvador was ravaged by a major land slide
caused by storm on 8-9 November 2009.

CELEBRITIES
The biggest tragic event was the death of
Michael Jackson in June 2009. It was indicated by
Mars (3), the Ruler of the eighth (Death) House
during that time being in Aries together with
Venus (6). Venus (6) is the planet of
entertainment and artistry. At that moment,
Saturn (7) was also in Leo, the fifth (Children)
House of youth and entertainment. Saturn (7),
the planet of Hardship was also in trine with,
therefore could reach, Mars (3). These two
planets are the accident pair that indicates
sudden illness, medical operation and accidents.
 Between 3 and 12 October 2009, Mars (3) will
be in Cancer while Saturn (7) will be in Virgo.
