Smile Revolution

- Mukesh Regmi
When I was a child there was an innocent smile on my face clearly seeming to have come
directly from the soul but now when I am grown up that authentic smile has become a banal one
and just momentary. As a child I used to cry from my heart whenever I was not satisfied with
anyone, anything or any situation but now due to the fear that what others would say I suppress
my cry and hesitate to show my emotions. Even the guardians, relatives, pals group, chit chat
friend circle are pushing us to a platform of what is called seriousness. If someone comes home
excitingly, banging the door and dancing with joy then people may think that he has become
lunatic, if one smiles with joy all the time then someone or the other will be calling him insane.
If the inner bliss makes anyone connected within oneself then there is a possibility of calling him
nuts by most of the people and so called definition of nerd by most of todays youth is the one
who talks about spirituality and wants to share the peace of mind and bliss of soul to others.
If we surf the net for finding the definition of smile through Wikipedia, a popular
searching tool its first sentence goes like this- a smile is a facial expression formed by flexing
the muscles near both ends of the mouth. Oh my god! This lame definition of smile made me
smile sounding ha ha for a couple of seconds and mind it this smile of mine was not in accord to
this definition. It could be said the other way this definition did not portray my smile, this was
not just a facial expression formed by flexing muscles but it was a pleasure, joy happiness
coming from within me.
Smile is something natural to all of us. Kabirs stanza for smile goes like this
!!
True smile comes when one becomes completely satisfied. Kabirs stanza gives us a clear
picture of inner smile. According to him an authentic smile comes when one person thinks
another as his own soul. When two people smile their body is in harmony, the four eyes comes in
contact, sixty four teeth jest with each other. Similarly the twenty fingers are joined, the seven
crores hairs tremble with intense satisfaction and Goosebumps occurs in the whole body.
It is not that we have to forcefully smile but it is sure that if we do not think each creature
as your own soul, as our brothers and sisters then smile do not come naturally. In our holy
scripture Bhagawat Geeta lord Krishna has said Mamaibamso jibaloke jiwabhoota sanatana

So only if we think we all creatures are the substratum of the ultimate god which is called
Rama , Krishna, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed according to ones faith, then natural smile comes
as we see it reflected on the childs face.
Everyone in the entire universe wants to be happy. Everyone is seeking for smile. So
smile is natural. It can be proven the other way also. One cannot remain for the whole life crying
and becoming angry but it is sure that one can remain for the whole life smiling and making
others smile. No one can deny the fact that Lord Buddha, Shankaracharya, Mahaveer had inner
smile reflected on their face for their whole life. We can clearly look at the life history of the
sages like Khaptad Baba, Shyam Chetan Baba, Yogi Naraharinath, Yogananda Swamiji,
Maharshi Raman, Aurobindo, Osho, Mahesh Yogiji who smiled for the whole life. Even today
the life of saints like Ramananda Swamiji, Chandresh Swamiji, Sri Sri Ravishankarji can be
defined by a single word called smile. So smile is our true nature and we should at all the time
smile.
Though smile is our nature but we must also admit that it has become momentary in our
life. It may be because of the growth of ours. As we grow up we see different people, visit many
places and deal with many situations. While confronting those, we grow up with the layers of
prejudice. So due to years of this kind of growth of ours, our personal smile, our personal
callings are deeply buried on our soul. Our nature smile is there within but has just become
invisible. We need to evoke it.
In order to evoke it, firstly we must unleash our feelings that we are this and that. The
feeling that I am a doctor, I am an engineer, I am a CA, I am from a high class family, I am poor ,
I am an intelligent guy, I am dull, I am male, I am female and so on should be cleared up. It is
very difficult to remove this title so more simple method is replacing the title of bla. bla with
the title of the peaceful and blissful soul such that I am bla.. bla.. by I am apeaceful and
blissful soul.
Well begun is half done. As soon as this tag of the peaceful and blissful soul deepens in
our heart then I bet no one can stop us from smiling. The smile can be made permanent by not
seeking happiness from any kind of object, person or situation. Object, person and situation are
always changing. So as we seek pleasure and joy from them there is the possibility that pleasure
changes into distress and joy into affliction.
We must accept the object, people and situation in order to make our-self swim in the
ocean of bliss. Change in the object, people and situation is the nature of the world but accepting
the change makes our smile unchanging. We have no control towards the changing world but we
do have the tie or cord of control of our mind and control of our response towards the changing
situations. If we do not like any person and if he or she comes in front of us then he or she will
not be suffering but we will be suffering but if we accept the person as a peaceful and blissful
soul we will be in peace and joy. Newtons third law of motion that, to every action there is

equal and opposite reaction is not only applied for material entities but can be truly applicable
for emotions too. We become the same as we think of others. Nowadays it is a common problem
of blaming others. It is more conspicuous in public places especially when we are commuting in
a micro or a bus. In traffic jam the passenger are more likely to be opening up their adams apple
blaming someone or the other. People are commonly seen blaming the government, relatives,
friends and so on. These blaming has no meaning and instead of blaming others if one can dare
to smile and recite OMKARA then tension like situation cant have an audacity to hover around
us.
Accepting the situation does not mean remaining passive and not take a rationale action.
By the term accepting the situation, I do not mean for example to hand over our wallet and
everything if dacoit tries to snatch those from us. But yeah instead of crying and loosing balance
of mind we can think and act on that situation. Accepting the situation let us cool down and all of
us know that a rationale decision is the deed of the cool people only. Moreover bearing of
responsibility gives us an authentic smile. This is because grace follows service. There confronts
a situation where it seems like the task is going to become impossible but then a simple click of
grace makes that task become possible. This gives us an inner joy and authentic smile.
We do not need to forcefully smile. That banal smile has no meaning and that smile
doesnt give us pleasure. If smile doesnt come in our grasp then we have to look into the depth
of any beings eye where we can see our own soul, the source of smile. Also smile does not
reside where fear dwells. So we must leave the fear of what others would say, what others would
perceive, what would their perspective towards us would be. Doing what our heart says is the
ultimate key towards our smile because it never speaks lie. We need to take a rationale action
from our cool mind and smile from our inner being.
Last but not least instead saying hi or hello let us just greet all beings with our folded
hands. Let us look into the inner depth of the eyes of those we are attending and give an
authentic smile considering him or her as our own brother and sister. Let us do smile revolution
giving love and having compassion towards everyone. Let us join hands and make this world a
peaceful and blissful garden.
