Tata Steel, which is running a 9.7
mtpa steel plant, is commissioning a new
steel unit in Odisha soon with 3 mtpa
capacity. It also plans to double the capacity of the plant in the next three years.
Essar Steel would rather concentrate on
consolidation than on raising capacity further from 10 mtpa now, a company official
said. A number of firms including JSPL,
Monnet Ispat and Energy and Visa Steel
are also raising their capacities. Posco's
unit in Odisha is also likely to start production much before the 2025 deadline for
reaching the 300 mtpa capacity. "Even as
the industry is facing a lot of problems
now due to issues such as paucity of raw
material, subdued demand and higher
imports, they are raising capacity pinning
hopes of a huge spurt in the domestic
demand," said an industry analyst. "The
consumption of steel is almost set to rise
with the government's thrust on infrastructure. Only thing that may derail the
plans is imports. India needs to check
that," he added.

BJP was speaking of the Modi Tsunami running through the nation, but this time in
Delhi, it ran itself into a Tsunami, entirely built and created by itself. The decimation
of the party at the hands of AAP in the 2015 Delhi election was not so much an
achievement of AAP but a complete failure on part of the BJP that got caught up in its
own hype and perception game. True, Narendra Modi remains a popular leader in the
country and commands the respect of the nation, but in the last nine months, he has
done little for the people of Delhi. The common man has been asking how Modis
achievements in the international arena were impacting his life.
he results are out and Arvind Kejriwalled AAP has broken several records on
the way to claim its stake in forming the next
government in Delhi. This was always a contest between the BJP and AAP, in a so-called
three-cornered fight that had an inconsequential Congress holding the third corner. An
overconfident BJP has been routed in an election, which it was supposed to win outright,
till around December end. Through January,
reality began to set in that perhaps it was
going to be a close contest between the BJP
and AAP.
The results have come as a complete surprise to both the BJP and Congress. The AAP
remained consistent in its belief and the
results validate its claims. So what forced the
oldest political party in India, with two recent
The party vice president was seen campaigning for party candidates on safe seats and the
organizational reshuffle is long overdue. This
humiliating defeat presents a tremendous
opportunity to hand over the reins to a new
leader and give him the freedom to rebuild the
party from the grass-roots level.
The party is too old with great political
heritage to be written off. The Congress only
needs to be reinvented and the party has to
wait for the opposition to reach anti-incumbency level, in order to stage a comeback. The
party also needs to strike a balance between
the old and the new guard within the organizational structure to represent people across
age groups and income groups. Will the party

finds AIB Knockout
roast objectionable
amir Khan yesterday decided
to use his celebrity and position
as an actor and a creative person to support freedom of speech. Or
did he? Khan has not yet seen AIB
Knockout, by his own admission, but
he has seen some clips and like all
good Indians, he does have an opinion on it. Khan says he was deeply
affected by the dialogues and most
disappointed. He felt it was a very
violent event and clarified that
violence is emotional or verbal also.
When you insult someone, you are
perpetuating violence. He believes
everyone has different opinions and
should be allowed to have them.
He believes AIB Knockout was a violent show. He scolded Karan Johar
for taking part in it. You see, he is not
impressed by bad language. He only
likes jokes which dont hurt anyone
and if AIB has indeed broken the
law, then they should face the consequences. But nothing should be
banned. According to Khan, if you
dont like someones work, you should
tell them so in no uncertain terms
and appeal to them not to do such
things again. He also thinks an age
lock should exist, so children dont
see the video (someone point the man
towards the parental control software). In his words As a creative
person do I have the liberty? Yes, I
do. But do I have the responsibility?
Yes, I do. As creative people, we have
freedom of speech, but we have to
know how to use that freedom of
speech.
Enough has been said on AIB
Knockout and AIBs apology to the
Archdiocese. My opinion on the matter is that freedom of speech is
absolute. Should AIB have apologised for any of it? Its easy for everyone to sit on their high horse and
claim disappointment at that as
well, but lets see how many people
when faced with a legal battle and a
criminal case, will not cow down.
Far wiser to say sorry, and just get
back to what they were doing. The
roast itself was very brave, given how
politically correct we are and how
certain Bollywood truths (of having
lovers of the same and opposite sex,
casting couches, having low IQ) are
