GP Care
GP Care is a recognised provider of community based healthcare services including diagnostics,
outpatient and ancillary services to NHS and private patients within Bristol, North Somerset, South
Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, BANES, N.E. Essex and Walsall and is branching out to new CCG
areas across England. In addition it offers a variety of support services to its shareholder base of 100
practices which comprise over 650 GPs who look after approximately 1,000,000 patients. GP Care
services are clinically led, developed to meet patient needs and provide cost and efficiency savings to
the NHS.
Job Purpose
You will be an experienced and qualified audiologist (registered with the RCCP or HCPC) and will
become a member of our bank team, with the opportunity to cover staff shortages due to sickness or
annual leave. As a key part of a rapidly growing team you will work autonomously taking
responsibility for the delivery of community audiology clinics. You will provide a complete adult
hearing rehabilitation service to include hearing aid assessment, hearing aid fitting, follow up and
servicing for all patients referred by GPs to GP Cares direct access service. You will often work
alongside an Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) or Healthcare Assistant (HCA) who will support
community audiology clinics and ensure that clinical and professional standards are maintained at all
times.

Key Responsibilities
General
Work as part of the GP Care team to contribute to the business;
Represent the organisation positively in all contacts both directly to the public and between health
professionals and managers;
Apply your best endeavours at all times to add to the service quality, reputation, influence and
profitability of the organisation;
Provide support to other GP Care team members on their projects where appropriate;
To wear uniform provided and adhere to company uniform policy.

Specific
Audiological assessment of adults with hearing loss, including history taking, evaluation of results
and subsequent appropriate management;
Take responsibility for safe use and maintenance of audiological equipment including
audiometers, tympanometers and computerised assessments. Ensure that clinical equipment is
calibrated and in good working order;
To be responsible for stock and safe keeping and use of stock as discussed with the Audiology
Service Lead;
Taking of aural impressions, including assessing for suitable ear moulds and appropriate
modifications;
Be familiar with all current models of analogue and digital hearing aids in order to select the
correct amplification;
Fitting hearing aids with computerised probe microphone measures to verify and evaluate hearing
aid performance. Additional use of sound field aided gain and speech reception tests as required;
Audiological rehabilitation of adults including the use of questionnaires and other outcome
measures;
Continuing evaluation of hearing aid use;
Maintain full and accurate documentation in line with professional standards to include electronic
and paper systems;
Record evidence of clinical reasoning that justify outcomes;
Make full use of electronic patient management system;
Share relevant information with other professional agencies to facilitate a coordinated multidisciplinary approach and maintain patient confidentiality;
Provide suitable advice on environmental aids and assistive listening devices;
Undertake hearing aid fault finding and provide necessary maintenance and repair;
Audiological assessment and aural rehabilitation of patients with special needs as required;
Undertake domiciliary visits as required;
Supervision of ATO/HCAs within clinics ensuring clinical practice and professional standards are
maintained;
Act as a professional role model to staff;
Use critical analysis to keep abreast of new developments recommending changes to professional
practice as appropriate;
Maintain and handle patient records, reports to patients and GPs in line with Information
Governance requirements;
Ensure patient privacy and dignity and infection control standards are met and that clinical activity
is optimised. Feedback operational issues to relevant admin team;
Undertake audit and report any incidents/issues in line with governance plans;
Manual handling of patients and equipment in line with company policy;
To be able to act in situations of crisis and to be familiar with emergency procedures, including fire
and basic life support;
To be aware of possible hazards within clinic locations to take immediate action and report any
incidents/accidents to the manager;
Take personal responsibility for maintaining professional registration as a Clinical Physiologist with
the Health and Care Professions Council/RCCP.
Communication
Maintain a friendly, helpful, confident and professional manner at all times;
Exercise discretion as to the degree of urgency and confidentiality required in both administrative
functions and clinical activity.

To perform such other tasks as may reasonably be expected to fulfil the duties for which you are
employed.

Confidentiality
In the course of your duties you may have access to confidential material about patients, members of
staff or other health service business. On no account must information relating to identifiable patients
be divulged to anyone other than authorised persons, for example, medical, nursing or other
professional staff, as appropriate, who are concerned directly with the care, diagnosis and /or
treatment of the patient. If you are in any doubt whatsoever as to the authority of a person or body
asking for information of this nature, you must seek advice from your manager. Similarly, no
information of a personal or confidential nature concerning individual members of staff should be
divulged to anyone without the proper authority having first been given. Failure to observe these rules
will be regarded by GP Care as serious or gross misconduct which could result in disciplinary action
being taken against you.
Health and Safety/Security
It is the duty of every employee to work in such a way that accidents to themselves and to others are
avoided, and to co-operate in maintaining their place of work in a tidy and safe condition, thereby
minimising risk. Employees will, therefore, refer any matters of concern through their respective
managers. Similarly, it is each persons responsibility to ensure a secure environment and bring any
breaches of security to the attention of their manager.

All members of staff have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable adults and
children in all relevant areas of their work. This includes attendance at relevant training events and
being aware of GP Cares Safeguarding policy and procedures.

Location
You will be working at various clinic locations in Colchester and Tendring, North East Essex, with
travel between these clinic locations being required. You will report into and occasionally visit GP
Cares Head Office, currently Christchurch Medical Centre, Downend, Bristol, BS16 5SG.
This job description may be reviewed in the light of changing service needs. Any changes will
be fully discussed with the post holder. The post holder may also be required to carry out
other work appropriate to the grade of the post.
