In this manual, you will learn the following:

How to connect and configure a WIFI router to the internet?

How to change the WIFI router password?

How to configure the wireless security feature of your WIFI router?

How to setup the WIFI router as an access point?

How to connect and configure a WIFI router to the internet?


STEPS:
1) Disable the Wi-Fi in your computer.
2) Enable your Ethernet LAN, as shown:

3) Crimp a straight-through cable using a CAT5 LAN cable and two (2) UTP connectors.

*Note: Straight-through is used when connecting:


1) one (1) PC and one (1) WIFI router, and;
2) one (1) DSL modem and one (1) WIFI router
3) it is also use when configuring a WIFI router

4) Connect each end-points of the LAN cable to your PC and the WIFI router. Note:
Do not connect the LAN cable to the Internet port of the WIFI router. LAN cable connected to the WIFI router should be connected to Ethernet Port nos. 1 through 4 ONLY. Both LAN led light of your PC and the WIFI router is assumed to have lighted by
now. If its not lighting, then something is wrong with the crimping of a straight-through
LAN cabling. Please refer to STEP NO. 3 on how to crimp a straight-through LAN cable. Another one is that, you should enable the Ethernet LAN in your network Connections setting in your PC.

5) Configure the WIFI router. Open a web browser. By default, the WIFI routers IP address connection is 192.168.1.1, press enter:

6) Do not click the Click here to install Cisco Connect. You must click the Continue
with an open and unsecured network.
Note: Yes, its not recommended to configure in this setting but it can be configured
with a secured network as we configure the WIFI routers SSID and password later.

7) Check the I understand that my network is currently open and not secure. I would like to manually configure my router's security settings . Then press the Continue button.

8) By default, the User Name of the WIFI router is admin. And the Password is admin too. Press
the Ok button to enter the settings of the WIFI router.
User Name: admin
Password: admin

9) Ignore this warning. Check the Do not show me this again, then click OK button to continue.

10) Under the Internet Setup, internet connection type must be PPPoE. Leave the Host Name & Domain Name blank. Under the Network Setup, IP address is as is and the Router Name is PLDT.

11) Again, under the Network Setup, under the DHCP Server Setting, the DHCP Server must be enabled to distribute the IP address of internet to computers automatically. Under the Time Setting, set
the time zone to China, Hongkong, Australla Western. Then click Save Settings.

CONGRATULATIONS! You
have save the initial settings
of your WIFI router. Youre
way to go to connect to the
internet.

12) Test your initial setting. Close the browser. Open again a browser and type the username and
password for the WIFI router. Press the OK button.

13) Change the password of your WIFI router. Go to Administration tab.

How to change the WIFI router password?


14) How to change the WIFI router password? For purposes of demonstration, under the Router Access, change the Router Password to: @80*23)!19+-!abc$!@
, re-enter to confirm: @80*23)!19+-!abc$!@ *Remember to keep the password in a safe place.
Follow the the other encircled settings. Then press the Save Settings button to save the new password and other settings.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have save the new Administration settings of your WIFI router.

15) Click Continue button, then enter the WIFI router setting with your username and NEW password. Remmber, your new password is now: @80*23)!19+-!abc$!@

How to configure the wireless security feature of your WIFI router?


16) How to configure the wireless security feature of your WIFI router? Under the Wireless tab, select Manual radio button.

17) Disable the 5 GHz wireless settings, enable the 2.4 GHz wireless settings. Follow this configuration: the network Mode must be Mixed, Network name or SSID is PLDTwireless, Channel Width is
Auto 20MHz or 40MHz, Channel is Auto, and SSID broadcast must be enabled, as shown below.
Then click the Save Settings.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have save the new basic wireless settings for the wireless
security of your WIFI router.

18) Going further, again, under the Wireless, press the Wireless Security. Follow the following as
configured. And again, disable the Security Mode of the 5GHz, enable the 2.4 GHz wireless security. Under the 2.4 GHz, set the Security Mode to WPA2 Personal. For purposes of demo, the passphrase or password for the WIFI is 7281thequick@$81# and save the settings.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have save the new Wireless Security settings for the wireless security of your WIFI router.

19) Test the connectivity of your WIFI router and your PC. Remove the straight-through LAN cable
connected in your PC. Under the Network Connections in your PC, disable the Ethernet icon, and
enable the Wi-Fi icon.

20) Then connect to PLDTwireless. Check the connect automatically, then press Connect.

21) Type the passphrase or the password for the WIFI router, then click the Next button.

22) Press the Yes, turn on sharing and connect to devices

CONGRATULATIONS, you are connected to the WIFI router! Now you are
ready to browse the internet.

How to setup the WIFI router as an access point?


STEPS:
1) Follow Steps 1 to 9 of the How to connect and configure a WIFI router to the internet. Your LAN
cable connection to and from the other WIFI router must be cross-over cable type.

*Note: Cross-over cable is used when connecting:


1) two (2) WIFI routers at the same time, and;
2) one (1) WIFI router and one (1) network hub at the same time.

2) By this time, your WIFI router is called WIFI access point because you are connecting to the internet at the same time with the WIFI router. Enter the WIFI access point using the User Name and
Password below:
Username: admin
Password: admin

3) Upon entering the WIFI access point, go directly to Administration tab. Again, for purposes of
demonstration, change the password of the access point to: @80*23)!19+-!abc$!@, , re-enter to
confirm: @80*23)!19+-!abc$!@ *Remember to keep the password in a safe place. Follow the
other encircled settings. Then press the Save Settings button to save the new password and the
other settings.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have save the new Administration settings of your WIFI access point.

4) Configure the wireless security feature of your WIFI access point. Under the Wireless tab, select
Manual radio button.

5) Disable the 5 GHz wireless settings, enable the 2.4 GHz wireless settings. Follow this configuration: the network Mode must be Mixed, Network name or SSID is cisco2, Channel Width is Auto
20MHz or 40MHz, Channel is Auto, and SSID broadcast must be enabled, as shown below. Then
click the Save Settings.

CONGRATULATIONS, you have configured the basic wireless settings of your WIFI access pt.

6) Going further, again, under the Wireless tab, press the Wireless Security. Follow the following
as configured. And again, disable the Security Mode of the 5GHz, enable the 2.4 GHz wireless security. Under the 2.4 GHz, set the Security Mode to WPA2 Personal. The passphrase or password
for the WIFI is castaneda100. Save the settings.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have save the new Wireless Security settings of your WIFI
access point.

7) Go back to Setup tab of your WIFI access point. Under the basic setup tab, follow the following:
4.1) Under the Internet Connection Type, choose Automatic Configuration-DHCP
4.2) Leave the Host Name & Domain Name blank, MTU as is.
4.3) Set the WIFI access points IP address to: 192.168.2.1.
Note: this is possible and working if you are using two (2) WIFI router in the same network. The other
WIFI routers IP address is set to 192.168.1.1, and your WIFI access point must be set to 192.168.2.1 to
obtain connection and avoid IP addresses conflict.

4.4) Set the subnet mask as is. Change the router name to: cisco2
4.5) Under the DHCP Server Setting, disable the DHCP Server.
4.6) Set the time zone to China, Hongkong, Australla Western.
4.7) Save the settings.

CONGRATULATIONS, youre way to go to connect your WIFI access point to the internet.

8) Connect your PC to the new WIFI access point.

CONGRATULATIONS, you are now connected to the internet.
