Drip Off coatings

Drip Off represents an efficient and eye-catching method to achieve

matt/gloss effects or matt/structure effects in a single process with just one
coating unit.
The principle: In the last ink duct a primer is partially used. Out of the coating
unit, a high gloss coating is applied full area. Where primer and high gloss
coating meet, a repellent effect is realised. Where the primer has been left
out, you realise high gloss surfaces. In this way, you can produce fine printing
motives without a spot coating plate.
Additionally, other waterbased and UV based Drip Off systems are available.
The combination of oil based primer and waterbased high gloss coating
achieves pleasant homogeneous matt areas as well as distinctive matt/gloss
differences. All systems provide good drying characteristics as well as a good
scratch and scuff resistance.
For the application of UV Drip Off (also called hybrid coating), both UV based
and oil based primers for the ink duct are available in combination with UV
coatings. Depending on the primer, application amount and the setting of your
printing press (power of UV lamps), you can achieve medium to strong
structures which provide a highly visual and haptical difference compared to
the high gloss coating. The systems are characterised by a very good scratch
and scuff resistance.
Great quality print products are becoming more and more popular in the
printing industry. A incessantly escalating requirement for surface finishing
procedures has become noticeable within the last few years. You need an
gorgeous design and top-quality printing and finishing to distinguish yourself
away from the competition! Elegant print products create a winning

make.
Enhancements in the technological options held up by presses, including inline
surface finishing in a single pass, are also fueling this progress. Improvement
has been specially evident in the line of coatings. There are now a large
number of special, user-friendly coatings with new attributes. They create all
manner of effects, giving designers ever better choice of expression.
Cold

Foil

Finishing

Cold foil is an astounding innovative print technology that allows you to utilize

metallic foil, in-line, at press speed, in an unlimited spectrum of colors. Cold

Foil Finishing can be applied using two conventional offset printing units. The
first unit uses its inking unit and an offset printing plate to apply glue either as
a
spot
application
or
to
the
full
sheet.
The second, actual cold foil unit characteristics take-up and take-off units for
putting on the foil. Right with the sheet, the foil is fed into the nip between the
blanket and the impression cylinders and utilized by pressure to the areas of
the printing stock coated with glue. When the backing is taken away, the
metal layer remains on the sheet. The remaining printing units are used to
overprint the sheet. CMYK and spot colors can be printed on the surface of the
sheet and over the foil. The result is an awesome foil effect.

Drip-off

and

Hybrid

Coatings

Drip-of
Conventional offset inks are used for the process colors. A special-effect print
varnish is applied in the final printing unit to the sections that should have a
matt appearance. After that, the coating unit is used to utilize a conventional
full-area high-gloss coating that drips off the parts previously given a matt
coating. This maintains the matt effect of these places and gives the
remaining spots a gloss surface.

Hybrid
Hybrid or UV inks are being used for the process colors. A further printing unit
is used to apply a UV special-effect print gloss to the regions of the image that
are to have a matt visual appeal. Next, the coating unit is used to apply a fullarea UV high-gloss coating. Because a UV high-gloss coating is used for hybrid
applications, a greater gloss intensity may be achieved compared to a drip-off
application produced by using a conventional, water-based high-gloss coating.
With hybrid applications, however, the structure of the matt effect is much
stronger
compared
to
drip-off
applications.
Hybrid and UV Spot Coatings

Hybrid
UV inks are being used for the process colors. A further printing unit applies a
hybrid special-effect print varnish to the areas of the picture that will have to
have a matt appearance. After that, the coating unit is utilized to apply a fullarea UV high-gloss coating. The matt effect is generated exactly where the
gloss
coating
\sinks\
directly
into
special-effect
print
varnish.

UV
UV inks spot-coated with a UV matt varnish in a added printing unit are used
for the process colors. Next, the coating unit is used to apply a UV high-gloss
coating as a second spot coating. This evidently differentiates the matt and
gloss parts. As a UV high-gloss coating is used for the hybrid application, the
gloss level is similar to that reached with the UV application. The matt effect in
the hybrid application, however, has a surface which is less smooth than with
the UV application, otherwise known as a hybrid effect.

OFFSET PRINTING
Offset sheet printing is one of the three main modern printing techniques. This is a classic
method, efficient to the maximum for printing over coated, low-coated and uncoated
cardboard and paper. Offset method produces prints of excellent quality, with perfect colour
reproduction and reproduction of small image elements. Besides primary colours (MYK) it is
possible to use additional palette (pantone) and varnishes. All kinds of post-printed finishing
are applicable to offset printed products: foil stamping, relief stamping, spot UV varnishing
and lamination, die cutting, folding, gluing etc. Due to its ease such printing method is used in
the majority of modern printing plants. The quality of prints depends on the skills of press
operators and technical condition of equipment. Our plant guarantees high quality of offset
printing due to new equipment and skilled personnel with the average work experience of
more than 15 years.

OFFSET PRINTING WITH UV INKS

Sheet printing with UV polymerization inks. This method is relatively young but very
promising. It is possible to print with UV inks over difficult-to-print, non-absorbent substrates,
such as metalized board and paper, plastics, synthetic paper and film, self-adhesive and
transparent materials (lenticular lenses for stereo variable effects). Due to their
chemicophysical nature the UV inks demonstrate excellent adhesion to hard-to-print
substrates and are easy to finish at the consequent stages of production. These inks are

resistant to direct sunlight, so UV-inks are perfect for printing outdoor advertisement items.
The range of UV printable substrates is very wide from generic coated paper and cardboard
to synthetics.

DRIP-OFF PRINTING METHOD

Drip-off inks for sheet printing combine the best qualities of conventional inks that have been
in use for decades and advanced UV printing inks. Such inks make it possible to put UV
varnish over printed substrates in wet-on-wet mode, online, without additional varnish
primer. But the main advantage of this technique is combination of drip-off inks and so called
effect coating. This combination produces unique texture effects, which are impossible to
achieve with any other offset printing method or materials.
The specialist of our plant developed a unique method that allows printing with permanent
excellent quality on polymer materials, including metalized boards, achieving truly one and
only texturing effects.
Drip-off printing expands the boundaries of what is possible. It can emphasize details with a
gloss or combine them with matt and relief elements.
Special attention should be devoted to the drip-off printing on metalized board. In comparison
with traditional printing the drip-off technique makes it possible to combine relief texturing
that imitates plastic with high-gloss and volume effects.

PRINTING ON METALIZED BOARD

Metalized board is a special type of cardboard laminated with metalized films. This substrate is
widely used today for various types of folding cartons. Popularity of such technique is growing
day by day. This substrate is often used for premium cartons for confectionary, cosmetics,
toiletries, alcohol, greeting cards etc. Printing on metalized board requires UV inks and UV
curing.

The base board is, usually, cellulose or recycled cardboard of different weights. Metalized
board is manufactured by laminating the board with various films matt, mirror, holographic
or colour.
The adhesion of inks to the substrate is of paramount importance for printing on metalized
board. All factors, such as the right choice of inks, dampening solution and substrate play
important parts. Substrates need to be corona treated in order to enhance surface tension and
adhesion.

UV SILK PRINTING
UV screen printing method is based on materials cured by UV radiation. Curing of inks or
varnish coating takes a seconds fraction and due to this fact UV materials do not require long
time for drying, which is common for traditional printing with solvent-based and other inks
used in screen printing.
The screen printing is mainly used for refinement finishing of the offset printed products at our
plant. Our specialists command such techniques as spot coating with gloss and/or matt
varnishes, application of special coatings: glitter, blister and high-viscosity (Braille). Due to
combination of various UV materials and printed substrates the screen printing becomes a real
find for graphic art designers. Now they are able to implement their creative ideas in reality.
It is an excellent tool for production of premium grade packaging cartons that bring your
product to a higher level of quality.

APPLICATION OF SPECIAL EFFECTS COATINGS

Special effects coatings are varnishes with special physical or decorative properties. They are
used for high-end elite cartons. Due to UV screen printing there are practically no restrictions
on the type of substrates to be printed: cardboard, synthetics, plastics and metalized
substrates.

Glitter coating a type of transparent glossy UV varnish for screen printing. The coating
contains tiny particles of glitter, golden or of other colour, like very small shiny flakes. It is
widely used for greeting cards, spectacularly emphasizing design elements. Glitter coating
adds brightness and festivity to the product. It comes in various fractions and hues: golden,
silver,
holographic,
acid,
iris.
Iriodin coating a transparent varnish containing iriodin, a special substance. This coating has
a very nice pearl or mother-pearl reflex. It is used as proven way to add noble and composed
look to a printed product. Depending on their formula, iriodin coatings come in various hues:
mother-of-pearl and white, pearly-golden, with different coloured reflexes red, blue, green
etc.
3D (Braille) coating glossy varnishes with high viscosity and low fluidity, able to imitate relief
stamping. The main ornamental property of such coating, which is also called Braille coating
(by analogy with Braille print that can be read by blind people with their fingertips), is its relief.
It looks very attractive with small size ornamental fonts and/or design elements, where relief
stamping
is
not
possible.
Also we can apply special effects coating according to your specifications. For instance, a
coating with one-way sliding effect or an anti-sliding varnish, a satin matt varnish or a
fragranced varnish, or varnishes with UV luminosity used for protection from counterfeiting.

FLEXO PRINTING
Our plant is the only printing enterprise in Ukraine that has mastered production of tea tags.
To this end it was equipped with an 8-colour Mark Andy web-fed flexo press and special
options. During one pass it prints both the face and back sides. As a result, Vesna plant is the
absolute leader on the Ukrainian market of tea tags.

DIE CUTTING

Die cutting is the methods of finishing that provides the needed shape for a printed product.
Die cutting equipment cuts blanks of any needed shape from a cardboard, plastic or paper
sheet. This blank may be in need of further processing. Combination of die cutting, creasing
and grooving results in a great variety of forms.

STAMPING AND EMBOSSING

Stamping and embossing are post-printing finishing techniques. It is done on special semi- and
automatic presses. Techniques are based on relief embossing or hot foil stamping various
types of foil or film can be used, metalized and coloured, sprayed etc. This method makes
printed products more attractive and is used in packaging cartons production and
advertisement. There are several widely spread types of this technique: foil stamping, blind
embossing, relief stamping with or without foil, stamping with holographic foils and texturing.
