Information about the class


There are 20 teenage learners in the class. They have two fifty minutes lessons every
week as part of their school curriculum. I have been teaching them for nearly a year.
They use Pathway to English: English News & Views as their English course
book.
Main Aim
By the end of the lesson the learners will have practised vocabulary related to
physical appearance.
Subsidiary Aim
By the end of the lesson the learners will have practised describing people.
Personal Aim
To reduce teacher language in whole class activities and provide more learners
interaction.
Materials (including source)
Course book (Pathway to English: English News & Views), blackboard, chalk,
pictures ( SHE magazine- UK Edition)
Assumptions
Learners will know some of the vocabulary and they will be interested in enriching
their vocabulary.
Anticipated difficulties with tasks
Solutions
Learners will not use the new vocabulary in I will monitor the groups to make sure
their description.

Procedure
Ask learners to remember what they did the last
time (describing a colleague). Tell learners we
will focus on describing appearances.
Ask learners to open their books at page 175 and
explain exercise I.1. In pairs ask learners to
solve the exercise.
Learners read the descriptions containing the
new vocabulary and match them to their
corresponding picture.
Check the answers with the learners in open
class and write down the answers on the
blackboard.
In groups ask learners to describe a picture from
a magazine using the new vocabulary.
