ANURAG KUMAR BURMAN
QUANTITATIVE METHODS

I have completed my four year bachelor of engineering

program from Shri ram institute of technology Jabalpur which is one
of the finest private college of Madhya Pradesh. I was graduated in
June 2012 with a degree in electrical and electronics engineering.
Many of my courses and research activities in final year were in the
field of electrical engineering application with new technology with
a strong focus on wireless transmission of electricity. I am applying
for

admission

to

the

fellow

programme

in

management

in

quantitative methods at IIM Ahmadabad.

I was introduced to mathematics and physical sciences while
at school and it was in high school that I considered career in this
area. The strongness in mathematics and desire to study electrical
engineering prompted me to take GATE exam for admission into
M.Tech and FPM courses from reputed institution. I was ranked
3548 in GATE exam in about 200000 students. Due to the ability of
deep thinking i decided to focus on FPM course rather than M.Tech.
My undergraduate education has not only given me a certain
set of skills but also helped me to understand my fields of interests
and my academic strengths and weakness. This understanding has
made me realize that though the applied physical science appeal to
me, my strengths lie in applied mathematics and in abstraction in
reality. In particular I am interested in the managerial aspects of
quantitative methods. I am having efficient managing quality so that
by research in quantitative methods I can innovate new ideas for
betterment of it. In my final year project I was the team leader and
looked after of the circuitry part and report management part of our
project. Due to good communication, writing ability and managing
quality i was able to manage all these aspects of our project.

I believe that I have the qualities to be a good researcher and

teacher. Whenever I get free time, I used to research for some
practical things and innovate new ideas to solve mathematical
problems. I am a creative person and often think in a competitive
way about various issues of practical importance. Being able to
identify patterns and relationship that are not obvious to others is
perhaps my greatest strength. This will prove very valuable because
an integral part of being a researcher is to perceive the balance
between theory and practice, analytical rigor and intuition. My
communication skills are good and I like expressing ideas and
concepts both in oral and written form- an ideal platform for
dissemination of knowledge in my chosen field of specialization. At
college level I had seminars of quantum computer and sixth sense
device which shows mixture of both good communication skills and
having ideas of new technologies and innovation. I have keen
interest towards playing chess which shows i have good foresight. I
attained first position in regional level chess competition and
selected for the national game. I am adventurous too and attained
height of 13000 feet in a trek program managed my Explore
Himalayas.
The IIM Ahmadabad management school is one of the best
schools of management in INDIA with a strong orientation towards
research.

The

diversity

of

research

interests

in

quantitative

methods is particular interests to me. The eminent faculty and the

individualized nature of doctoral programme will definitely bring out
the best in me. I would like to reiterate that I possess the
background, ability and the motivation to make a significant
contribution to quantitative methods. I hope you will take a
favourable decision regarding my admission to the FPM programme
and I look forward to join the IIM Ahmadabad school of management
as soon as possible.
