Author's Introduction
Any one familiar with my guides will know that Harvest Moon is my area of
expertise. I do not pretend to be an expert in matters relating to Survival
Kids or Lost in Blue. I wish I were because these games are amazing. They
have much in common with Harvest Moon and yet are very different in other
ways. The most fundamental difference is that you can die in Lost in Blue and
its predecessors. In Harvest Moon, you are given (or buy) a derelict farm.
Life is a struggle at the beginning but death never threatens you. In Lost in
Blue, you are the victim of a shipwreck and find yourself cast ashore on a
desert island. You discover another survivor. In the first Lost in Blue
game, you had to play the boy first and complete the game successfully with
him before you could play the girl. Lost in Blue 2 differs in that you can
choose to play either the girl or the boy from the beginning. Furthermore,
the girl is not half as helpless as she was in the original game. In the
first version of Lost in Blue, when the boy finds the girl initially, he
accidentally steps on her eyeglasses and breaks them. This makes the girl
virtually blind. She is unable to go anywhere unless she holds the boy's
hand! In Lost in Blue 2, if you play the boy, you actually can send the girl
out to forage for firewood and food, something she never could have done in
the original.
I am writing this guide for the beginner rather than the expert. Games like
Lost in Blue and Harvest Moon can be rather daunting to players who are
unfamiliar with them. Sometimes, they can be so difficult that they are not
much fun to play. With a basic guide, however, the player can enjoy the game
without feeling overwhelmed by it.
The experts may not like a guide with 'spoilers' but for the beginner, a
walkthrough that gives some idea about the future provides the player with
hope and incentive to continue.
There are a number of different successful endings to this game and there is a
section that gives details about all possible endings. You basically can
choose your ending by allowing the preliminary events for every ending to
occur. There are specific requirements for succeeding in each scenario.
Please note that, although this guide is in the form of a walkthrough, there
are some events that can be experienced in a different order and items often
can be acquired sooner. The Table of Contents should help any player to
organise his/her game to some extent, if he/she wishes to perform actions in a
different order. Some events are predicated upon earlier events, however, and
cannot be experienced at an earlier point in the game.
Essentially, your first mission in this game is simply to survive. You have
no tools, no form of shelter and no food or water. If you do not find
shelter, food and water, you both will die within a day or so. Fortunately,
the problem of shelter is solved rather easily. There is a cave in the face
of a rock wall to the north of the beach where you wash ashore. Water and
freshwater fish can be found in a little alcove to the southeast of the cave.
Until you find a stick, however, you will be unable to catch any fish. This
limits your food supply on the first day to anything you can forage from the
ground.
Format of this Guide
My Guides tend to follow one of two formats. My Harvest Moon Guides follow
one format, giving information in sections that deal with specific aspects of
the game, such as farming, mining and fishing, as well as sections that list
the items sold at shops and so on. The other format is that used in my guide
for Sims 2 for the DS. That format is more like a Walkthrough, and
information about a specific aspect of the game is interspersed
with 'Walkthrough' sections. This second format is the one I have followed in
this guide. As new aspects of the game are introduced as the plot progresses,
I include them in the guide after that section of the Walkthrough. For this
reason, I have divided the Recipes into three separate Sections, giving the
easiest Recipes earliest, the intermediate Recipes in a later section and
finally giving the Recipes that require the rarest ingredients in a third
Section. Each Recipe is given twice, however, as the Picturebook section will
give every Recipe in the order in which it appears in the Recipe section of
the Picturebook. For the player who wishes to read every Recipe at once, the
Picturebook section will provide access to the complete list.
Basic Walkthrough
This first walkthrough is from the boy's game. It is easier to play as a boy,
and it is suggested that you do so until you have completed the game once.
Shipwreck
The game begins on the ship. A storm is in progress. You have a choice to
take something with you.
Search tabletop
Search suitcase
Search closet
Despite these choices, I never have found anything on the ship.
You have to find the girl before you can do anything. Go to the right to find
her. You then will be taught how to hold hands. As you walk with her, you
will find seaweed on the shore. Pick it up with the stylus or by using
the 'A' button. You can pick up items while holding hands with the girl. Go
up the hill and the boy will eat the first mushroom he sees, a rather foolish
mistake as it will make him ill.
Go the right to find the water to drink before you do anything else. The boy
will discover fish there but you have no means by which to catch anything at
this point.
If you are playing the boy, the girl automatically will find the cave now as
the boy begins to feel the effects of the bad mushroom.
Make Item
This option is the one you use whenever you wish to make a tool. In order to
make a tool, all components for the tool must be in your rucksack. If they
are on the Shelf, your partner's rucksack or the floor, you must transfer them
into your own rucksack before you will be able to use them.
In your rucksack, all items that can be used to make the specific tool will be
displayed with a lit background. Choose the items that you want to use, then
press 'X' or tap 'Make' with your stylus. As you find new items, new tool
options will appear.
Obviously, in terms of space conservation, it is better to make items into
tools than to keep them in your rucksack as 'raw materials'. A spear made
with a stick and sharpened stone takes up less space than the stone and the
stick would. Bamboo and vines are the exception as you can stack them against
the wall to be used in any future project.
Picturebook
The Picturebook is where the items that you have discovered or made will be
collected. A brief description of the item and its uses will appear when an
item is added to your Picturebook. The Picturebook contains all tools,
weapons and raw materials that you have discovered or made. It contains all
successful Recipes as well.
The different categories in the Piecturebook are as follows:
Tools
Materials
Fish
Animals
Plants
Furniture
Recipes
Other
A complete list of all items in the Picturebook will be added to this guide as
time permits.
Quicksave
The Quicksave option is particularly useful in any game that allows only a
single save file. Although Lost in Blue 2 has two save slots, they cannot be
used for the same game. There is only one way to keep two different save
positions in any specific game, and that is by using the 'Quicksave' option.
The reason this gives you two separate save positions is that the 'Quicksave'
can be used at any point during the day, but the 'Save' option appears only
when you go to Sleep. You can save your game when you go to sleep but, if you
do not like the results, return to the last Quicksave position instead. In
the same fashion, you can Quicksave your game but, if something really
negative occurs, you can go back to the 'Save' file instead, ignoring the last
Quicksave position.
Having explored the Menu, it is time now to cook your first meal in the cave.
Cooking
When you stand next to the Cooking Stone, you will see an icon at the top
right of the screen with the label 'Cook'. Tap this icon or press A now to
open the Cooking Menu.
Select a cooking method
At this point in the game, you will have two methods:
Cut
Grill
As you collect specific items that will enable you to use other methods, those
methods will become available. For now, you either can cut or grill your food.
All cooking methods involve the Touchscreen and use of the stylus. Each
cooking method is a different mini-game. Some are more difficult than
others.
When you cut food into a salad, you only need to use the stylus to slice
vertically through each item placed on the cooking stone. When you have
sliced through the last item, the dish will be finished. There is a time
limit on all cooking methods.
When you grill food, all items will be cut and placed on the cooking stone.
Each item is cut into two pieces; if you have four items, you will have eight
pieces of food on the cooking stone. You need to use the stylus in a circling
motion on each item to 'turn' it to the other side. When all pieces have been
turned, the dish will be cooked.
Spices
You can cook up to four items at a time and use up to two spices with them.
Spices improve the quality of your cooking, and better dishes raise your
energy levels higher. To acquire spices, simply go outside and choose
the 'Search' option by hitting it with your stylus or pressing the A button.
Spices are random and can be found anywhere outside. The type of spice you
find obviously depends upon the location. Rock salt is found only at the
shore, When you have created a fishing rod and used it once, you will be
able to find worms to use as bait in the same manner.
Recipes in this game are not created whenever you cook a dish successfully.
Recipes are specific combinations of ingredients and spices, prepared in a
specific fashion that are added to your Picturebook. At the start of the
game, you probably will not be able to make any true Recipes but as you
continue to acquire ingredients, spices and more cooking methods, you will
begin to complete the Recipe section of the Picturebook.
The first true Recipe that you can make is Seaweed Salad. It requires Seaweed
If you choose: 'I have something for you', you will open another sub-menu with
new prompts:
Give.
Eat this.
For you.
It's nothing.
Give
The option to 'Give' is a two-way street. It can open either your rucksack or
Amy's rucksack. If you highlight an item in your rucksack to 'give' to her,
the item will go into her rucksack. If you choose the option to 'Switch',
Amy's rucksack will open and you can highlight items there to place in your
own rucksack. Whenever Amy goes out to find food or firewood for you, she
will be able to give them to you automatically only if there are empty slots
in your own rucksack. If not, they will remain in her rucksack until you
choose the 'Give' option and then transfer them to your own.
Until you have the largest Shelf, Amy's rucksack will be your only other
storage option. Whenever you go out alone to explore, you need to remember to
transfer all unnecessary items to the shelf or to Amy's rucksack in order to
free space in your own rucksack.
When you give an item to Amy, she will not eat it automatically. You can
stash food and bottles of water in Amy's rucksack when you go out alone, but
there is no guarantee that she will find or eat the food, even if she is
starving! The description of some of the spears as 'not the sharpest tool in
the shed' could be applied to Amy in terms of her intelligence and
initiative. Her behaviour often can be extremely exasperating.
Eat this.
It is only when you choose 'Eat this' that Amy obediently will consume the
item you give to her. If you intend to leave her alone in the cave for any
length of time, it is best to satisfy her hunger and thirst before you leave
rather than trusting her to use the supplies that you leave in the cave wisely.
For you.
The next option is 'For you'. This is the option to use whenever you have a
special gift for her. The option to make 'Accessories' will be added to your
Tool Making menu after you step on a shell at Beach 2. This option allows
you to make shells that you have collected into pieces of jewelry. The
aesthetic quality of the jewelry is not as significant as the fact of giving
it to her. The 'Accessory' option allows you to string shells together and to
polish them. Be careful when you polish, as shells can crack. If one shell
cracks during polishing, the entire necklace will be lost. It may be a good
idea to 'Quicksave' before you make any jewelry.
Whenever you give jewelry to Amy, you will make her happy and further your
friendship with her. Look for shells as well as rock salt when you are at the
beach. Beach 2 appears to have more shells to offer than Beach 1.
Later in the game, you will have the leisure to search for pretty stones as
well.
Could you do me a favour?
The next option when you talk to Amy is 'Could you do me a favour?'
If you choose this option, another sub-menu will open:
I need something made.
What are you working on now?
Could you gather firewood?
Could you go get some food?
Can you go get some water?
Nothing.
I need something made.
'I need something made' probably will be the option that you use most with Amy
once you have established a daily routine. In emergencies, you can ask her to
gather firewood or food, but her performance of these tasks is erratic at
best. When she goes out to gather firewood, she may return early or late with
a random number of twigs, from one to five. When she gathers food, she may
bring back mushrooms that are poisonous. Obviously, the option to ask her to
collect water will not become available until you have bottles or the oil
drum. It is best not to ask her to perform any these tasks, however, unless
your back is against the wall.
When you ask her to make something for her, however, she will perform the task
properly. The grace with which she agrees may vary according to her mood or
friendship level, but she will do the work in the time given to her.
Items she can make include baskets and rope. Place vines and bamboo in stacks
against the northern wall, then ask her to make baskets or ropes. You can
choose the number of items that you wish her to make and give her a time limit
for completing the chore.
When the option to smoke meat or fish becomes available, this will be another
task that you can request from her.
It is in this respect that furniture will become important, as when you are
able to make a work table for her, it will increase her productivity.
Details about furniture options will be given as they become available in the
course of gameplay.
When your Partner gathers Firewood
When you request firewood from your partner, the amount of firewood that
he/she brings back always will be random. It can be anything from 1 to 5
twigs. If you are desperate to replenish your stock of firewood, Quicksave
your game BEFORE you ask your partner to gather firewood. If he/she returns
with no more than a single bundle of Twigs, reload your game and try again.
When your Partner gathers Food
When you ask your partner to do a favour for you by gathering food, make
certain that you both have sufficient space in your rucksacks for the items
collected. Especially as the game progresses and you stay in the Treehouse in
the Grasslands or the Beach 4 area, your partner may be able to bring back far
more food than previously. If, however, neither you nor your partner have
sufficient empty slots in your rucksacks to accommodate all the items, those
that cannot be alloted a slot will be lost.
The items that Amy brings back when asked to do so always are random. There
are times when it is very useful to ask Amy to gather food. If you are
staying in a location far from an item that you need for a Recipe, there is a
chance that Amy will bring it back in her rucksack. Quicksave your game
BEFORE you ask her to gather food. If the item you need is not included when
she returns, simply reload your game.
Although she may bring back useless poisonous mushrooms on occasion, your
partner can bring back items that are troublesome for you to collect, such as
those obtained only through diving. Even if your partner is the one to bring
back an Abalone or Clam, by placing it in your own rucksack, you will be able
to add it to your Picturebook. This is a minor 'cheat', but it can be helpful.
Day 2: Exploration
West of the cave is a series of steps leading upwards. Try to explore these
as soon as possible. Take Amy with you. There is a log at the top of one of
the steps that needs to be pushed in order to create a shortcut. You will not
be able to push it by yourself. Whenever you see a huge log at the top of a
go east (to the right) instead, then take the path south, you will find a
stand of bamboo. Many pieces of green bamboo will be on the ground, and some
bamboo shoots will be in the ground there as well. Bamboo shoots, like
carrots and radishes and any other root vegetables, can conceal small snakes
and tarantulas. Be careful!
If you can take at least one vine, one log and one piece of bamboo back to
your home cave after the first visit to the jungle, Amy will make a number of
suggestions.
Rope and Baskets
She will tell you that she can make rope from the vines. Rope will be added
to the items she can make. She will tell you that she can use the bamboo to
weave baskets for traps. Traps will be added to the items that can be made
and a place to stack bamboo and vines will be created along the northern wall
of your cave home.
The place where bamboo is stacked is the place for finished baskets as well.
Vines and rope share the same location. Simply use the left and right
direction arrows to cycle through the items stacked at any location. Use the
up and down arrows to transfer items to and from the stack to your rucksack.
Making Furniture
It is better to choose the sleep option first. Once you have made a bigger
shelf and a bed, the option to make a table will be added automatically. When
I chose the table option first, however, the option to make a bed was NOT
added afterwards automatically. Even after I had upgraded the Table, the
option was not added until some time had passed.
The materials needed to create a Bed are:
Bed 1: 2 Logs, 1 Rope, 6 Leaves
Bed 2: 2 Logs, 2 Ropes, 6 Leaves
Bed 3: 2 Logs, 3 Ropes, 6 Fur
Logs are found in the Jungle. Six logs can be found ordinarily. They will
not reappear immediately after you gather them, but will appear after about 3
days. Ropes are made by your partner from the vines you find in the Jungle.
Leaves are found beneath certain trees, or can be shaken from those trees if
they are not on the ground. I find it easiest to obtain fur from the wolves
that frequent the area between the Water Cave and the Jungle entrance (near
the entrance to Beach 3).

When you have completed Table 5, you will have a handsome set consisting of a
Table and two chairs upholstered with fur. You then will be able to sit at
dinner with your partner in formal fashion.
Making and Using Traps
If you wish to make a trap, the option will exist once you have found the
bamboo and vines and Amy has made a basket. There are three kinds of trap:
Large, Fish and Small.
A large trap is made with 1 stick and 1 vine. It is used to trap deer and
other large animals. You can catch goats with this as well and keep them for
milk. As in the case of the chicken, you first must kill a goat and bring the
meat back to the cave before Amy will suggest that a goat could be
domesticated and used for milk.
A fish trap is made with 1 vine and 1 basket. It will trap one fish. Fairly
useless really, a waste of good items, but you need to make it once to
complete your PictureBook.
A small trap is made with twigs and a basket. It will trap small animals, and
allow you to domesticate a chicken once you have caught one and brought home
the meat. This is the most useful trap at this stage in the game. One
you 'use' it, you can search it again and again for small animals and birds.
All you need to do is drag the animal into your rucksack (the dark 'pocket' at
the bottom right of the Touchscreen) by using your stylus. You can fill an
entire rucksack with meat doing this.
Animals caught in a small trap will be agitated and will try to escape as soon
as the trap is lifted. Squirrels and field mice tend to run in circles but
are fairly easy to catch. The Chicken, who will run in an erratic fashion, is
not too difficult. The most difficult creatures to catch are the pigeon and
the duck. You will see the Pigeon flying from side to side even before the
trap is lifted. It will continue to fly close to the ground until you catch
it or it manages to escape. The Duck, on the other hand, will not fly until
the trap is lifted. It then will spread its wings and usually fly towards the
bottom of the screen very quickly. It may be the most difficult creature to
catch but it yields the most meat. Duck meat when smoked usually yields
Medium Smoked Meat. Most of the other creatures caught in the Small Trap will
yield only Small Smoked Meat.
A small trap, once placed, should last a few days. Return to use it the next
day if you can and keep using it until it disappears.
You can use a small trap as close to your cave home as the area outside the
entrance. You can place another trap in the little area with the stepping
stones to the northeast of the cave. If you place one in either of these
locations, you will be able to trap small animals without using too much
energy.
If you wish to trap a large animal, there are a number of ways to do this, but
the best way probably is to wait until you actually see an animal before
you 'use' your trap. Large animals will be found in the same spot again and
again. When you startle an Animal anywhere, note the precise location where
the Animal stood before it ran away, then set a Large Trap there. In order
to kill a large animal, you need to make a bow and arrows as well. Like
spears, bows and arrows can be made from a number of different materials.
Bows and Arrows
A bow is made from either a stick or piece of bamboo and a vine. Arrows can
be made in a number of different ways. You simply can sharpen a stick, piece
of bamboo or iron rod to make a simple arrow, or you can attach a sharpened
stone or bone to the shaft. For greater accuracy, use feathers as well. You
need to make one of each type of arrow in order to complete the PictureBook
but afterwards, the only significant difference is whether or not you have
attached feathers to the arrow. Feathers do improve the accuracy.
Large animals can be found in a number of locations. In the early stages of
the game, you will see them both in the jungle and in the grasslands. If you
run when you explore these areas, you will startle any animal into fleeing
before you have a chance to trap and kill it.
There are two strategies used by players to hunt large animals. My own
strategy is the first one, but there are players who prefer the second.
Strategy 1: Pay attention to the precise location where you see any large
Animal. Even if you startle it and it vanishes, set a Large Trap at the place
where it stood. Animals are 'loaded' randomly onto the screen, but usually at
one of a few specific spots. If you set traps at the places where you have
seen Animals previously, the chances are extremely good that you will find an
Animal in one of your traps.
As Animals are loaded onto the screen randomly, it may be a good idea to
Quicksave your game BEFORE you enter the screen where your Traps are set. If
you fail to find an animal in any of your traps, reload your game and try
again. Quicksaving your game AFTER you enter the screen is not helpful, as
the Animal either will or will not have been loaded onto the screen at that
point. Using this method, I have been able to find a large animal in one of
my traps almost every day.
Strategy 2: Move slowly and, once you have found a large animal, pay
attention to the direction in which is it moving. Place the trap directly in
front of its path, and it should walk into the trap. You can lay more than
one trap in its path, but remember that once a trap is set, it cannot be moved
and will not last more than a couple of days.
Note: The problem with Strategy 2 is that Animals often will be facing a
cliff or a wall and you will be unable to set a Trap in front of them.
Strategy 1 eliminates this problem. Moreover, setting two or three Traps at
the same spot is rather a waste of Traps as only one will be used.
No matter which strategy you employ, when an animal is caught in a large trap,
move as close to it as possible, then fire a series of arrows at it to kill
it. One arrow will not kill a large animal. You must hit it at least two
times in order to slay it. If you hit the animal, you will see a burst of
light at the point of impact. This is where distance is significant. The
further you stand from the Animal, the less chance you have of hitting it.
Tip: If you startle a large animal and it does not move into one of your
traps but disappears instead (in that mysterious way in which they do in this
game, vanishing as it were into thin air), press the Y button instantly and
the animal will reappear on the screen. When this occurs, it usually will be
extremely close to you, so be prepared to shoot immediately.
A Bow and Arrow is used in the following manner:
First, equip the Bow by accessing your 'Item' menu and using the 'Equip'
option when you highlight the Bow. When you wish to use the Bow, press X to
use it. It is only at this point that you will have access to a new screen.
On this 'hunting screen', you will see the Animal at close range as well as
being able to see your bow and the trajectory of the Arrow notched in the
bowstring. This is the point at which you will have an opportunity to correct
your aim. As previously stated, the closer you are to the Animal, the more
chance you will have of hitting it.
When an Animal is caught in a Large Trap, you will be able to walk up to it
and almost stand on top of it! If you do this, you should have no trouble
whatsoever.
Although the description of each arrow states that it can be used only once,
it appears that any arrows that you make are not single arrows but consist of
a couple of arrows. With only one bamboo feathered arrow in my 'quiver', I
have been able to shoot a bamboo feathered arrow more than once to kill an
Animal.
Hunting Wolves
The jungle and grasslands are a greater distance from the first cave home than
the little grassy area directly outside the water cave, near Beach 3. If you
set a small trap in this area, you will be able to use it to obtain a rucksack
filled with meat and shellfish from the beach. Moreover, wolves tend to
frequent this area, especially in the evening. A wolf when killed with a
spear will yield three different items: meat, lard and fur.
The meat obviously can be cooked using any of the cooking methods available to
you. Lard can be used either in cooking or to make a torch. Fur can be used
to make a better bed.
In order to make a bed with fur, you need to upgrade your bed to the second
level. The third level will use fur instead of leaves.
Fresh Fruits
The jungle contains many natural resources apart from those used to make
better tools and furniture. Ripe fruits like pineapples, guavas, bread fruit,
passion fruit, papaya and bananas abound.
The Grasslands
In the grasslands, you will find potatoes, radishes and burdock as well as
numerous twigs and sticks. There is one more valuable item in the grasslands
and you may wish to obtain it as quickly as possible.
Indented Stone: Cooking Bowl
When you exit the jungle going north, you will see a series of stepping stones
that lead to the main area of the grasslands. When you cross the stepping
stones, instead of going deeper into the grasslands, follow the river bank to
the east. You will see a small beach where an indented rock will be halfburied in the sand. Once you dig up this rock and take it home, you will be
able to use a larger number of cooking methods.
When you have brought the indented stone home to your cave, you will unlock
the following cooking methods:
Boil
Steam
If you have brought any lard back to your cave, you will have one more option:
Deep Fry
There is one more cooking method that you will unlock when you find a Flat
Stone on the northern beach at the Lake. That method is:
Stir Fry
Each cooking method is a separate mini-game. To boil items, you must stir
them in the large 'bowl' formed by the indented stone by using your stylus as
a spoon. You must have some water in your rucksack as well if you wish to
boil anything.
To steam items, you must blow on the microphone. Both boiling and steaming
require water, and both therefore provide more nourishment in terms of water
as well as food.
To deep fry your food, you need lard. The pieces of food are thrown into the
oil in the cooking 'bowl' and assigned numbers. You must tap on them with
your stylus in the correct numerical order to remove them.
The method you choose to use is partly simply a matter of personal preference,
but I tend to favour the 'Steam' method as it provides great nourishment,
taking care of thirst and hunger at the same time.
After you find the Flat Stone at the Beach on the northern shore of the Lake
(south of the Ruins), you will obtain one more Cooking method:
Stir Fry
To stir fry your food, you only need to run the stylus in a jagged 'lightning
bolt' configuration over the food on the flat stone. Do this repeatedly until
all pieces are cooked.
Treehouse
If you walk northeast in the grasslands, you will find a series of grass
steps. Climb them to find an enormous tree. When you approach the tree, you
will be given the option to build a treehouse. There are seven levels of
building that are needed to create a treehouse that you actually can use. You
need to ask Amy to make as much rope as possible if you wish to create a
second home here in the grasslands.
You need an enormous quantity of logs and ropes to build the treehouse, so you
will need to plan ahead. Ask Amy whenever possible to make rope and collect
logs for the project.
An indication of the quantities of materials required is that you need 4 logs
and 4 ropes to build even the third stage of the treehouse.

awaken, your partner and your chicken will be there with you.
Weather in Lost in Blue
As you might imagine, weather is a very important consideration on a deserted
island. Surrounded by water, it is useful to know that the tides are ruled by
the phases of the moon. When the tide is low, you can dive from specific
rocks on the Beach.
Rain has an effect on your energy level. When it is raining, any activities
conducted outside will result in more fatigue than usual.
Even fine weather can have negative effects. When it is extremely hot, you
will become dehydrated faster. Make certain to watch your water levels on
very hot days.
When you speak to your partner to ask how he/she is, you will be given useful
information about weather conditions and their effects.
Typhoons and Hurricanes
Typhoons or hurricanes are the most dramatic weather conditions that you will
experience. When there is a severe storm, you will be able to go outside, but
you will be limited in the distance you can travel. You will be forced to
move within the radius of a few yards of your dwelling.
Actually, typhoons and hurricanes have positive as well as negative effects.
During a severe storm, objects will be blown by the wind and dislodged from
trees. Depending upon your location, you will be able to find different items
on the ground during a typhoon or hurricane.
For example, if you are staying at the original cave, you will find many twigs
and coconuts on the ground outside the cave. If you explore the grassy area
between the water cave and the Jungle the day after a hurricane, you will find
quite a few pieces of Green Bamboo on the ground there. This will make a trip
to the stand of bamboo high in the mountains unnecessary.
If you are staying at the Treehouse near Beach 4, you will find a multitude of
eggs, feathers, twigs, bark and sticks on the ground to the southeast during a
severe storm. This is the best time to complete the Egg Recipes in the
Picturebook as you will find almost a dozen eggs on the day of a severe storm.
N.B. When you have the capacity to make a Small Trap using Twigs and a
Basket, you will discover a good way to spend the day of a Typhoon or
Hurricane is by trapping animals. Although you cannot travel, you can go
outside your home. Placing a Small Trap a few yards from your doorstep will
allow you to spend the entire day trapping animals and birds. If you have a
Smoker, you can fill that, make a number of Lunchboxes and prepare a couple of
nourishing dishes for you and your partner to share at the table.
Oil Drum
After you experience your first tsunami, you should be able to find an item
that will improve your domestic life greatly. You can find a metal oil drum
at Beach 2, the beach where you saw your shipwrecked vessel. You will not
find it, however, unless you pick up EVERY item on the beach. Even if you
must discard some items, like extra seaweed and a stone, collect every item
that is strewn along the shore, then leave the screen and return. The oil
drum will be there.
The oil drum allows you to store 30 portions of water. Now, instead of being
obliged to fill empty bottles each day, you can fill the bottles and dump the
contents into the drum. Empty bottles henceforth will be useful only to water
the chicken or goat and when exploring.
Choosing a Pet
In Lost in Blue 2, you can domesticate either a chicken or a goat. You can
have one pet at a time. If you choose to domesticate a chicken when you catch
it in a small trap, you never will be given the option to domesticate any goat
caught in a large trap as long as the chicken is alive. When the chicken
dies, you will be able to domesticate another pet. If you wish to have the
opportunity to domesticate both animals, do not replace the first animal when
it dies with an animal of the same type. It is rather unfortunate that the
game will not allow your partner to domesticate both animals at the same time.
Caring for your Chicken
With respect to the chicken, it is important to give it water. If you stand
next to it, you will see the option to 'water' it, as if it were a plant!
When she has been given water, she usually will lay an egg immediately
thereafter. She usually will lay no more than one egg per day. Once in a
great while, I have been able to persuade her to lay two by giving her water
again at night. Eggs are laid entirely at random in point of fact.
N.B. If your rucksack is full when you see the egg on the ground, do not
return to the cave before collecting it. It may disappear!
Even if you 'water' the Chicken daily, it will die at some point. You will
experience a scene wherein Amy will announce the death of the chicken. If you
are playing Jack, you will be given a number of options in terms of the
response you make to her news.
Here are the choices:
Don't let it bother you.
I wonder how that happened.
Let's cook her up.
The following dialogue will ensue if you choose: 'I wonder how that happened.'
Jack:
Amy:
Jack:
Amy:
When the Chicken dies, all you need to do to catch another is to set a small
trap. You will be given the option once more to domesticate the first Chicken
that you catch.
I believe that the normal life span of a Chicken that has been domesticated is
about 100 days. That is approximately the length of time my Chickens have
lasted in this game.
Sometimes items with deep red backgrounds can be eaten without ill effect if
these cooking methods are employed. Again, the effects appear to be random.
There is a way to use even items with deep red backgrounds safely, however,
and that is by using them to create Lunchboxes. Evidently, the game
recognises only the food and liquid values of any item used in a Lunchbox and
does not register its freshness. If you have food that has reached the deep
red stage, use it to prepare a Lunchbox and it will not be wasted.
As previously stated, even Jerky is perishable, although it lasts longer than
fresh meat or fish.
Recipes for Beginners
Your Picturebook contains all Recipes that you discover as well as items like
tools, weapons and raw materials.
At this stage, you should be able to prepare a number of different dishes.
All Recipes will be listed at the end of this guide, but here are a few that
should be possible at this point in the game.
Once a Recipe is entered in the Picturebook, you will have a new option when
cooking. When you choose an ingredient or group of ingredients used in a
completed Recipe, you will be able to tap on a new 'Recipe' option in the
Cooking menu in order to make it automatically.
For example, if the Recipe for Baked Potato has been entered in the
Picturebook, you will be able to use a single potato in order to make it
again, using the 'Recipe' option. Obviously, a single Potato will give less
sustenance than four Potatoes, but a Potato used to make a 'Baked Potato' will
have more value than a single Potato cooked in a manner that is not recognised
as a proper Recipe.
Actually, there appears to be another requirement for any new Recipe to be
entered in the Picturebook. Sometimes, making the dish once and having it
pronounced 'Excellent' will not suffice to create the entry in the
Picturebook. I made 'Boiled Egg' with 4 eggs and the required spice, but even
after making it successfully twice, it was not entered in the Picturebook. I
had to make it with a single Egg and the required spice in order to have it
entered in the Picturebook. Grilled Clams, on the other hand, will not be
entered in the Picturebook when you make it either with 1 or 2 Clams.
Moreover, when playing Jack, I gave 4 eggs to Amy and she made an 'excellent'
Custard Pudding with them, but the Recipe was not entered in the
Picturebook. I believe this is because you must be playing Amy in order to
enter Amy's Recipes in the Picturebook.
Remember that you can create perfectly good, sustaining meals without using
these Recipes.
Lost in Blue 2 is not like Harvest Moon where any dish that is not considered
a 'Recipe' will be a 'failed dish' or 'burned'. Any dishes made that are not
included in the Picturebook may be described as 'Strange' or 'Freaky'.
Nonetheless, they will restore your energy and sometimes be
pronounced 'Excellent'. Proper recipes may give a bit more energy than
others, but the main reason to make each of them at least once is to complete
your Picturebook.
Cooked dishes may have value as food and as liquid. The value of the dish
will be given at the time of consumption. When Amy and Jack eat together, you
will see the values displayed for each of them. Value as replenishing liquids
is given in blue and is given first. Value as food is given in green and is
displayed second. I will add these values as time permits and will designate
them as 'drink' and 'food'. Generally, grilled food does not replenish
liquids, but boiled and steamed dishes will. Cut food (salads) usually will
replenish liquids to some extent as well, depending on the ingredients. The
best dishes in terms of replenishing both food and liquids are steamed and
boiled dishes.
Liquid and Food Values can vary slightly depending upon the skill with which
the dish is made. When not stated otherwise, values represent the dish made
using the maximum number of ingredients, which is 4.
Remember that you need additional 'ingredients' in order to be able to use
certain cooking methods. Any deep fried dish requires a portion of lard to
make. Any boiled or steamed dish requires a bottle of water.
Egg Salad:
Method: Cut
Ingredients: Egg, Carrot, Rock Salt, Pepper Seed
Eggs are gathered daily from a domesticated chicken.
Carrots are found in the little grassy steppes between the 1st stepping stones
and the Water Cave.

Fruits like these are found in the Jungle area.
Baked Potato
Method: Grill
Ingredients: Potato, Rock Salt, Pepper Seed
Potatoes can be found in the grasslands.
(+20 food)
Grilled Sweetfish
Method: Grill
Ingredients: Sweetfish, Rock Salt
(+48 food)
Sweetfish can be found if you stand on the rock (stepping stone) in the middle
of a stream and fish from there. You can find them outside your cave home if
you fish from the middle stepping stone that leads to the grassy steppes and
Lake area.
Grilled Clam
Method: Grill
Ingredients: Clam, Purple Seed
Clams can be found along any beach near the shoreline.
Grilled Chicken
Method: Grill
Ingredients: Chicken, Rock Salt, Pepper Seed
Once you have a small trap, you can catch chickens anywhere in the areas of
the steppes.
Sardine Soup
Method: Boil
Ingredients: Sardine, Chives, Purple Bean, Pepper Seed.
Sardines are found by fishing at the beach, usually Beaches 2 and 3. Chives
are found in the Swamp.
Onion Soup
Method: Boil
Ingredients: Onion, Carrot, Yellow Bud, Rock Salt.
Onions are found in the grassy field south of Beach 4. Carrots are found in
the grassy steppes both between the 1st stepping stones and the water cave and
between your first cave and the Lake.
2 logs
2 ropes
When you decide to build the third and last stage of the raft, make certain
that your partner is with you, as you will not be able to use the finished
raft alone.
Take plenty of food and water with you as well, as it will be a long day.
Exploring the Lake
The Lake
There are a number of places to explore on the lake. If you go north, you
will meet the Tiger once again and be forced to chase him away by fighting
him. Going north after that will take you to the Ruins. You may wish to
explore these at a future date.
A New Shortcut to your Cave
If you go south on the Lake, you will be able to land at a beach from which
you will be able to find a new shortcut to take you back to your home.
Pushing the huge boulder into the water to create another stepping stone, then
go south. Bear southeast rather than southwest to find the entrance to the
small area on the east side of the river outside your cave home. As you walk
through this area, you may find more than one feather lying on the ground.
Collect them to make better arrows for your bow.
When you arrive at the river's edge, push the huge boulder there into the
water to create a stepping stone at last to cross the river. If you walk
across the stepping stones, you will find yourself outside your own cave!
Another Large Earthquake
When you have defeated the tiger in the swamp and then return home using the
new shortcut, you will experience another large earthquake. This will prompt
Amy to wonder if your lives will be in constant danger if you remain on the
island. She will suggest that you find a way to escape before it is too late.
Diving
Diving is another mini-game that you must master if you wish to complete your
Picturebook and if you wish to be able to escape ultimately from the island.
Diving is possible only when the tide is very low. You then will be able to
run across the shore to a rock from which you will be able to dive.
Your first diving rock is found on Beach 1. It is at the southeast corner of
the map. Remember that you need a low tide not only to reach the diving rock
but in order to return from the diving rock to the beach. As you must depend
on the tides, diving will take a great deal of time. Make certain that you
have provisions when you go to a rock to dive.
In the diving mini-game, you first need to use your stylus in a sort of
swooping motion to dive deeper into the water. When you actually reach the
halfway point, a shark may threaten you. Hold the arrow with your stylus then
to 'hold your breath' until the shark disappears. If and when you reach the
sea bottom, you will be able to collect items. Use the stylus to dig the
items from the sand.
Pieces of the map are found when diving. You must have the map to escape from
the island, so diving is not an optional activity in this game.
The 1st Ruins
When you have 100% energy, plenty of food and water bottles, go back to the
Lake to explore the ruins. If you did your 'footwork' previously, you will
have created shortcuts for every island in the Lake area by pushing huge
boulders into the water to create stepping stones. You therefore should be
able to cross to the ruins on foot, going northeast from your cave home rather
than taking the long way round through the Jungle and Swamp.
If you go to the beach below the ruins with your partner, you will experience
a little scene wherein you decide to cool off in the water and have a friendly
water fight.
Amy:
Yikes!
Jack:
Amy:
Jack:
Amy:
After some more laughter, you will find yourself on the beach again.
Essentially, the ruins involve a number of puzzles. You must push blocks in
order to be able to place red blocks on their corresponding red tiles, thereby
opening doors to new chambers.
The first chamber in the ruins has two red blocks at the north below the
closed door. If you go to the door with Amy, you will have a little
conversation, and make the connection between the red tiles on the floor and
the two red blocks.
What you need to do here is push each block forward (north) twice so that it
rests on top of the corresponding tile. The door then will open.
In the second room, there is a configuration of grey cubic stones, in the
shape of a C.
You cannot stand on these blocks as they are jagged on top. You therefore
need to create a path through them by moving them to one side or the other.
Your ultimate goal is to be able to move the two red blocks to the left of
this group onto the tiles to the west. This means that you cannot move any
block directly against a red block or you will not be able to push it to the
left.
Here is the configuration of jagged blocks:
Now you can go north into the fourth chamber. Here you will see a single
block. Push it up or north twice, then use it as a step to climb up onto the
higher platform. Climbing up and down, follow the platform west, then north
to another set of blocks.
Simply push the jagged block out of the way so that you can push the red block
to the right repeatedly until you can place it on top of the red tile.
Climb up and walk north to find a single red block. Push it to the left onto
the red tile and the archway will open, allowing you access to the fifth and
last chamber.
In this chamber, there are a series of steps. At the bottom of the steps,
there are two red blocks with two lighter blocks between them. Basically, you
need to push the two lighter blocks that are in the centre north in order to
free the area between the two red blocks. You then will be able to push the
two red blocks onto the corresponding red tiles.
When you continue through the archway to the north, you will see light at the
far north of the chamber. If you go forward in that direction, you will find
yourself in a field.
You will remark: It's just a big field. There's nothing here to help us get
off the island, ever.
Amy: What a stupid thing to say.
Jack apologises.
In fact, this area leads to Beach 4, but you probably will want to return home
at this point and explore the new area another day.
If instead of going north to the field, you go east in the final chamber of
the ruins, you will find a source of water in a rectangular basin. You can
drink here and fill your water bottles.
Go west now and you will find another exit that leads to the beach on the
lake. You now have a shortcut from the Lake to Beach 4 for future exploration.
Beach 4
When you have recovered from your exploration of the ruins, you may wish to
use the shortcut in the Ruins to explore the large field to the north and
continuing north, to find Beach 4.
The most unusual item you will find as soon as you arrive on the new beach is
a lifeboat stranded high on the sands. No human presence will be found, but
it is possible that the lifeboat could be used in future...
There is another diving rock on Beach 4, one that allows you to dive far
deeper than the rock on Beach 1.
Your Second Treehouse
If you explore the large grassy fields to the north of the Ruins, you will
discover another huge tree. Here you will have the option of building another
If you climb the rocks directly to the south of the Hot Spring, you will find
a new item growing at the top: Mugwort. This item is useful if and when you
give it to a dying man... When you next explore the Ruins, take some Mugwort
with you.
Flat Rock
When you explore the Lake, search the Beach on the north shore, below the
ruins. You should be able to find a Flat Rock there. Take it home to Amy and
you will obtain a new Cooking option: Stir Fry. With all possible cooking
methods, you will be able to complete the Recipe section of the Picturebook.
It only remains to broaden your ingredient base through hunting and fishing.
A New Fishing Tool
If you find yourself in the Lake area at night, do a bit of fishing there. It
does not matter whether you use a Fishing Rod or a Spear, but you must fish
after dusk.
If you stand on the middle stepping stone in the southwest area of the Lake,
you should be able to catch Eels.
When you catch a new type of fish at night, Jack will remark that he would be
able to catch even more new varieties of fish if he had better bait. You then
will unlock the option to create a 'Lure'.
Lures
A number of different Lures can be created now. To make a Lure, you need only
Twigs. Choose the 'Lure' option in the 'Make Tools' menu and you will see the
types of Lures that can be carved from Twigs.
Making Lures is another mini-game. The outline of the Lure will be provided
as a series of dots. You must touch each dot precisely with the stylus. If
you 'miss' even slightly, the Lure will be destroyed, along with the Twigs
used to make it. You may wish to Quicksave, therefore, before you begin to
carve any Lure. All Lures are included in the Picturebook, so you should make
each once at least in order to complete it.
Another Fishing Method
Use your Fishing Rod to try to catch Fish at the Beach. After you have failed
to catch anything after two or three attempts, Jack will begin to think...
Jack: I wonder if there's an easier way to catch more fish. Maybe if I throw
some bait out onto the water.'
You can now use 'Bait' for spearing.
When you use your Spear, you will see a new icon in the bottom right corner of
the Touchscreen. Tapping on it will throw one piece of bait (one worm) in the
water.
Push the first jagged block to the west (to the left) twice. There actually
is nothing else you could do at this point in any case.
Now push the block that was next to it to the south (down), clearing a path to
the red block in the centre.
The red tile that corresponds to the block is in the far southwest. You need
to be able to push the red block south along the wall until you can place it
onto the red tile. You therefore need to move the jagged block that is
farthest south against the wall south four times until you have pushed it past
the tile completely.
Push the red block south once, then climb over it to the empty space in the
east. Now push it from the east to the wall in the west. After you have done
that, push the red block in the same path as you did the previous jagged
block, pushing it repeatedly south until it is on top of the red tile.
You need to go west now through the archway. To do so, you will be obliged to
climb over the red block that you have set on its corresponding red tile.
You now will find a dying man in the ruins.
'Some one is lying over there'
'You're right! Some one else really is here!'
'Hang in there!'
Dying man: ... Gasp!
Are you okay, sir?
Dying Man: ...!
Dying Man: I didn't think any one else was stuck on this island.
Amy: You've got some serious wounds but if we.
Dying Man: Hush up a minute.. I'm not about to die in a place like this.
Amy: Are you okay?
Dying Man: Quiet!
The man then talls you: After I ended up on this beach alone, I scrounged
around for food... If it weren't for that earthquake...
He then asks you: You kids wanna survive? You two wanna survive or what?
You respond: We want to survive.
You then suggest: We better take care of this wound.
The Dying Man ignores your efforts and simply declares: I've got something
for you.
Jack: What's this, a note?
The Dying Man will tell you that it is: A note about my radio. My two-way
radio.
I dropped it somewhere when the earthquake hit.'
It is here that you have the option to give him Mugwort if you have any. If
you have Mugwort in your rucksack, you will tell him: I have these herbs.
Lake. The way to unlock the door on the left is by catching ANY fish from the
western side of the Underground Lake. It is as simple as that. Even if you
catch nothing more than a Crucian Carp, the locked door that corresponds to
that side of the Underground Lake will open. Once those doors are open, you
will not be obliged to go through the puzzle ruins again to reach the eastern
or western sides of the Underground Lake.
After exploring the Ruins here, you probably will not able to return to the
eastern side of Beach 2 until the tide changes again. Sometimes you will be
obliged to wait many hours on one side of the rock wall before you can pass to
the other side. Make certain, therefore, that you have plenty of water
bottles and Lunchboxes when you visit this area.
The Lifeboat
When you first discover Beach 4, you will find a Lifeboat, half covered by
sand, high on the beach. It will lead you to hope that other survivors may be
on the island.
When you return to the beach later, rather to your horror, you will see the
lifeboat being carried off to sea again by the tide. This will prompt you to
think that you should have tied it up when you first discovered it...
There never would have been any option to do that, however. The loss of the
lifeboat is part of the plot and the boat, far from being lost forever, will
wash up ultimately on Beach 3.
If and when you take your partner to Beach 3 to show him/her the lifeboat
there, you will have the option to use the lifeboat. Do not avail yourself of
this option at this point unless you wish to experience a tragedy. Even with
rucksacks packed with many bottles of water and a large quantity of
Lunchboxes, without the proper map, your 'escape' will be unsuccessful and end
in death...
If you have obtained the prompt to allow you to build a second raft, you can
make a choice with respect to the ending you would like to experience. Going
to the look-out point at different times in the day will give you the option
to choose between two more endings.
Instead of trying to use the lifeboat or triggering any ending at this stage,
concentrate on improving your relationship with the Gorilla and use your
diving skills to find the Map that you need. Moreover, it is doubtful that
you will have completed the Recipe section of your Picturebook yet, so it
would be a good idea to spend some time finding the ingredients you need for
each and every Recipe in the book. There are a number of large animals that
need to be killed and rare fish that need to be caught if every Recipe is to
be made.
Please see the section that deals with endings to the game for more details.
Acquiring Ingredients for Recipes
There is a little 'trick' that can be used to acquire missing ingredients for
any dish that you wish to make at any given point. If you are staying at a
location where one of the ingredients you need is not to be found, send your
partner out to find food. This is where that option can become extremely
useful.
For example, if you are staying at the first Treehouse in the Grasslands,
gathering Carrots will involve a fairly long, tiring journey. Many dishes
that contain Meat from large animals include Carrots, however. This is where
your partner can help. Send him/her out to gather food. The type and amount
of food that the partner collects is totally random. Quicksave your game
before you make the request. If the items you need are not included in
his/her collection, simply reload and try again.
In this context, there is another type of item that may be troublesome for you
to collect but which your partner will bring back frequently. Items acquired
while diving appear to present no difficulty whatsoever to your partner. Very
often, he/she will bring back Abalone and Clams. This is useful in completing
the Picturebook. If you place the item in your rucksack, even if you did not
collect the item yourself, it will be added to the Picturebook.
Time of Day
The time of day often is significant in terms of finding Animals as well as
predicting Earthquakes. Earthquakes occur most often between 3.00 p.m. and
4.00 p.m. If you wish to move the plot forward and you need to be in a
specific location when an Earthquake occurs, try to time your movements so
that you can be at that location at 3.00 p.m. Earthquakes do not occur daily
but you should be able to experience the event within a couple of days.
Weather and time of day both appear to be significant in terms of hunting.
Large animals usually can be found in the afternoon and evening. They are
more likely to appear when it is raining. If you go to the Jungle, for
example, at 4.00 p.m., on a rainy afternoon, you should find a large Animal in
one of your traps.
Successful Endings
This game provides the player with a choice of successful endings. You can
escape the island by building a second raft, by using the lifeboat, by
alerting a helicopter or ship or by finding a new route through the ruins.
Those players who would like to discover the endings themselves need not read
this section of the guide, but for those who have not had any success and have
become discouraged, this section may prove useful.
Three of the endings have time requirements in the sense that actions must be
performed at specific times in order to succeed.
2nd Raft Ending
Time Requirement: 10.00 a.m. - 11.15 a.m.
This ending is the easiest, if you have followed my Walkthrough. After you
have seen the ship from the look-out point, return to Beach 4 to build a
second raft on the designated spot there. After it is completed, you must
launch the raft between 10.00 a.m. and 11.15 a.m. in order to be rescued
successfully.
Lifeboat Ending
After you find the Lifeboat again on Beach 3, you must find a specific Map
before you can escape successfully from the island using the Lifeboat. Dive
from Beach 4 to find Map A, then make a large number of lunchboxes and fill at
least 4 bottles with water. You then can embark upon your escape in the
Lifeboat.
Radio Ending
To experience this ending, you must obtain the Radio from the Gorilla by
befriending him and performing whatever actions he requires from you. When he
gives the Radio to you, climb to the Look-out point with your partner, then
use the Radio. Give your location as the 'Volcano' in order to be rescued.
Helicopter Ending
Time Requirement: Go to Lookout at 5.00 p.m.
If you climb to the Look-out Point at 5.00 p.m. rather than 10.00 a.m., you
will see a Helicopter instead of a Ship. Go home and return the next day with
a Firestarter, Twigs and 2 Logs to start a fire that will enable the
Helicopter to see you. You will be rescued by the Helicopter in this ending.
The Pillars
Time Requirement: Must light all 5 Pillars before 6.00 p.m.
In your wanderings through the Ruins, you may have noticed red levers where
unlit lamps are placed at various locations. If you look at the map, you will
see that these lamps are located at places where there should be links between
two passages.
You need to take Twigs and Torches in order to complete this ending
successfully and you should do it in two stages. You can perform the first
step without your partner.
The positions of the three lamps are as follows:
1. From the water pool in the First Ruins, go south and you will find the
first unlit lamp on the right.
2. After reaching the large chamber where you met the dying man, take the
lower path going west and continue west until you see the next unlit lamp.
3. From this point, go north, following the path until you reach the third
lamp on the right. Light this and a pillar will be disclosed.
When you find the pillar, the first step will be complete. Do not light the
pillar now. Instead. make certain that both you and your partner have full
energy and provisions. Return to the location of the pillar, taking three
torches, three twigs and two firestarters with you. It would be a good idea
to begin your journey early in the morning as you must light five pillars
before 6.00 p.m. in order to complete this ending successfully.
Before lighting the pillar, make certain that your upper screen displays the
map of the island. When the pillar is lit, you should see the location of a
second pillar on your map. When you light the second, you will see the
location of the third. When you light the third, the fourth will be displayed
and when you have lit that, you will see the location of the fifth and final
pillar on the map.
The general locations of the five pillars are:
1st Pillar:
2nd Pillar:
3rd Pillar:
4th Pillar:
5th Pillar:
If you are playing as Jack, make certain that you have a bow and arrows; if
you are playing as Amy, have 9m of rope with you.
N.B. This is the most difficult ending and you probably should complete the
game using another ending first, as this one requires good knowledge of the
island and its paths.

Tools
Fire Starter
Material: Tree Bark, Twigs
A very primitive tool which requires a lot of patience to use. Use both hands
to start a fire by rubbing the stick against wood to generate friction.
Note: This is the very first tool you will create and making a fire with it
is a two-step process. You first need to twirl the stick by using L and R
then, once the smoke rises, you must blow on it by using the microphone. As
soon as you are able to make a bow, upgrade this tool by making the Fire
Starter with Bow!
Fire Starter w/ Bow
Material: Tree Bark, Twigs, Bow
A more developed, usedful tool for starting fires. Friction from the
bowstring spinning a wooden stick will generate a fair amount of heat.
Note: This tool is one of the most useful tools in the game, and you are
advised to create it as soon as you can. In fact, use your first bow to make
this tool. Making a fire with this tool is only a one-step process. You only
need to use the microphone to blow on the fire created automatically with the
bowstring.
Bamboo Fishing Rod A
Material: Green Bamboo, Tree Vine, Sharpened Bone
This fishing rod is a bamboo stick with a hook made of bone. A good pole
helps when fishing, but skill is just as important.
Note: Green Bamboo will be found when you gain access to the Jungle. Tree
vine is found in the Jungle as well. This, therefore, is not the first
Fishing Rod you will be able to make. Sharpened Bone is obtained if you cook
meat. Wolf probably is the first animal you will kill. After cooking the
meat, you will find the bone next to the cooking stone. Pick it up
immediately. Otherwise, it will disappear. You can sharpen both bones and
stones by using the 'Sharpen' option in the 'Make Tool' menu.
Fishing Rods require that you cast the rod and reel in the fish afterwards.
They require bait as well. In the early stages of the game, this method is
unnecessary. Use a Spear instead when you fish from the beach or river at the
start of the game.
Bamboo Fishing Rod B
Material: Green Bamboo, Tree Vine, Sharpened Stone
This fishing rod is a bamboo stick with a hook made of stone. A good pole
helps when fishing, but skill is just as important.
Note: Green Bamboo and Tree Vine will be found only when you gain access to
the Jungle. Stones are found on the beach. You usually can find one on any
Beach, even Beach 1.
Wooden Fishing Rod A
Material: Stick, Tree Vine, Sharpened Bone
This fishing rod is a wooden stick with a hook made of bone. A good pole
helps when fishing, but skill is just as important.
Note: Tree Vine will not be found until you gain access to the Jungle.
Sharpened Bone can be made from the bone of a Wolf after you cook the meat.
As you will not gain access to the Jungle immediately, however, this
therefore, is not the first Fishing Rod you will be able to make.
Wooden Fishing Rod B
Material: Stick, Tree Vine, Sharpened Stone
This fishing rod is a wooden stick with a hook made of stone. A good pole
helps when fishing, but skill is just as important.
Note: As in the case of every tool that uses Tree Vine as a material, this
tool cannot be made until you have access to the Jungle.
Wooden Bow
Material: Stick, Tree Vine
This hunting bow is made of wood. When it comes to hunting, technique is
just as important as the tool's efficiency.
Note: As in the case of every tool that uses Tree Vine as a material, this
tool cannot be made until you have access to the Jungle. Moreover, the first
animals that you fight will be the Alligator and the Wolf. You can use a
Spear against these creatures. Whenever you hunt Wolf afterwards, a Spear is
the weapon of choice. It is only in the case of animals that run when you
encounter them that you will use a Large Trap, a Bow and an Arrow.
Bamboo Bow
Material: Green Bamboo, Tree Vine
This hunting bow is made of bamboo. When it comes to hunting, technique is
just as important as the tool's efficiency.
Note: As in the case of every tool that uses Tree Vine and Bamboo as
materials, this tool cannot be made until you have access to the Jungle.
Moreover, the first animals that you fight will be the Alligator and the
Wolf. You can use a Spear against these creatures. Whenever you hunt Wolf
afterwards, a Spear is the weapon of choice. It is only in the case of
animals that run when you encounter them that you will use a Large Trap, a Bow
and an Arrow.
Bamboo Arrows A
Material: Sharpened Stone, Green Bamboo
Arrows made of bamboo with stone tips. Use them when hunting with a bow. Hit
rate is not very high. Each arrow can be used only once.
Note: Green Bamboo will not be available until you have access to the
Jungle. You will not encounter any large animals until you enter the Jungle.
When hunting with a Bow and Arrow, it is best to trap the large animal first
using a Large Trap. You then can shoot it at very close range to ensure that
you actually hit the target.
Bamboo Arrows B
Material: Sharpened Stone, Green Bamboo, Feather
Arrows made of bamboo with stone tips and feathered ends. Use them when
hunting with a bow. Very accurate due to the feathered ends. Each arrow can
be used only once.
Note: Green Bamboo will not be available until you have access to the
Jungle. You probably will not find any feathers until you create the shortcut
from the Lake back to your Cave. Feathers can be found on the ground or will
be found whenever you shoot a bird with an arrow. Birds trapped with a small
trap do not yield feathers, unfortunately. If you ever wish to shoot any
large animal without trapping it with a Large Trap first, use an Arrow with a
feather as you then will have a chance of hitting it.
Bamboo Arrows C
Material: Sharpened Bone, Green Bamboo
Arrows made of bamboo with bone tips. Use them when hunting with a bow. Hit
rate is not very high. Each arrow can be used only once.
Note: There really is little difference in accuracy between the various
arrows that do not have any feathers. The significant difference is seen only
when you add a feather to an arrow. In terms of deciding what materials to
use, bamboo may be a better choice than twigs primarily because you always
need twigs for the fire.
Bamboo Arrows D
Material: Sharpened Bone, Green Bamboo, Feather
Arrows made of bamboo with bone tips and feathered ends. Use them when
hunting with a bow. Very accurate due to the feathered ends. Each arrow can
be used only once.
Wooden Arrows A
Material: Sharpened Stone, Twigs
Arrows made of wood with stone tips. Use them when hunting with a bow. Hit
rate is not very high. Each arrow can be used only once.
Note: As previously stated, it may be better to use bamboo than twigs when
making the majority of arrows, as you always need twigs for your fire. The
only significant difference between the various types of arrows is the
addition of feathers.
Wooden Arrows B
Material: Sharpened Stone, Twigs, Feather
Arrows made of wood with stone tips and feathered ends. Use them when hunting
with a bow. Very accurate due to the feathered ends. Each arrow can be used
only once.
Note: This is an arrow worth having, because of its feathered end. You need
to make every type of arrow once to complete your Picturebook but after that,
you may wish to make all arrows from bamboo and to add feathers to them.
Wooden Arrows C
Material: Sharpened Bone, Twigs
Arrows made of wood with bone tips. Use them when hunting with a bow. Hit
rate is not very high. Each arrow can be used only once.
Note: As previously stated, there is no significant difference between an
arrow that is made with stone or one made with bone. The real difference is
seen when you compare an arrow that has feathers to one that lacks this
addition.
Wooden Arrows D
Material: Sharpened Bone, Twigs, Feather
Arrows made of wood with bone tips and feathered ends. Use them when hunting
with a bow. Very accurate due to the feathered ends. Each arrow can be used
only once.
Note: This type of arrow is the best as it has feathered ends that increase
its accuracy.
Iron Arrows A
Material: Iron Rod
Arrows made of iron. Use them when hunting with a bow. Hit rate is not very
high. Each arrow can be used only once.
Note: This type of arrow is no better than any other arrow made without
feathers.
Iron Arrows B
Material: Iron Rod, Feather
Arrows made of iron with feathered ends. Use them when hunting with a bow.
Very accurate due to the feathered ends. Each arrow can be used only once.
Note: Any arrow with feathers is to be preferred over those that lack this
addition.
Bamboo Spear A
Material: Green Bamboo
The tip of this bamboo stick has been sharpened to use as a simple fishing
spear. It's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.
Note: You will not be able to find bamboo until you gain access to the
Jungle. This, therefore, will not be the first spear that you make.
Bamboo Spear B
Material: Green Bamboo, Sharpened Stone
This spear has a bamboo shaft and a sharpeneds tone at the tip for a
the top screen, you can find your way through any area at night by simply
using the Map. You do need to make each type of torch once in order to
complete the Picturebook.
Bamboo Torch
Material: Green Bamboo, Lard
A torch made of bamboo that I can carry about. Its flames are bright, but
they don't last long.
Round Lure A
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. Make it move just right to catch a rare
fish. Sure hope they're bitin' today!
Note: All lures are made from Twigs. You will gain the option to make them
after you catch a fish at night from the Lake.
Round Lure B
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. Make it move just right to catch a rare
fish. Should work fairly well at the lake!
Round Lure C
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. Make it move just right to catch a rare
fish. Should work especially well at the lake!
Short Lure A
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. Make it move just right to catch a rare
fish. Sure hope they're bitin' today!
Short Lure B
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. Make it move just right to catch a rare
fish. Should work fairly well at the river!
Short Lure C
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. Make it move just right to catch a rare
fish. Should work especially well at the river!
Long Lure A
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. Make it move just right to catch a rare
fish. Sure hope they're bitin' today!
Long Lure B
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. Make it move just right to catch a rare
fish. Should work fairly well at the ocean!
Long Lure C
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. Make it move just right to catch a rare
fish. Should work especially well at the ocean!
Special Lure
Material: Twigs
This lure was carved out of wood. It's the result of a large amount of
research invested in the art of lure fishing. Make it move just right to
catch a rare fish.
N.B. The option to create the Special Lure will become available only after
you have caught a specific number of 'rare' fish from the lake, river and
ocean.
Small Trap
Material: Basket, Twigs
A trap woven from bamboo. I can capture small animals with this. It takes
time to trap anything, so I'll have to check periodically. It's important to
keep the animal from escaping when opening the trap.
N.B. This is the most useful trap in this game. Once the trap is set in
place at any location, you can use it repeatedly, catching over a dozen small
animals in the space of an hour or less. The traps do not last long.
Sometimes a trap will last a couple of days, but for the most part, you can
expect the trap to vanish after one day.
Large Trap
Material: Stick, Tree Vine
Noose trap made from a vine. I can capture large animals with this. It takes
time to trap anything, so I'll have to check periodically. It's important to
keep the animal from escaping when releasing it from the trap.
N.B. Unlike the small trap, you can see whether or not any animal has been
trapped in the noose as soon as you enter the area where it has been placed.
This trap will vanish after a day or two as well. The best way to use it is
to set two or three in place AFTER you see an animal. Try to place the trap
in front of the animal, in the direction in which the animal will run when
startled. After the animal is caught in the noose, you can shoot it with your
bow and arrow.
Fish Trap
Material: Basket, Tree Vine
A fish trap woven from bamboo to be set in the river. It takes time to
capture a fish, so I'l have to check back periodically.
N.B. As previously stated, a Fish Trap can be set only at one of the little
half-moon 'beaches' on the shore of a river. You cannot set it between
stepping stones. Like the Small Trap, the Fish Trap can be lifted repeatedly,
but it takes time to catch fish in this fashion and it is far more efficient
to do so by using your Spear.
Materials
Tree Vine
A vine found in the jungle. Very durable and not easily cut. Makes great
building material.
Three vines are found near the southern entrance to the Jungle. One is
visible almost immediately. The other two are inside the first little alcove
to the left of the entrance. There are other vines to be found on the
mountain paths and plateaus in the eastern and northern areas of the Jungle.
In fact, three vines can be found on the high path that creates the northern
boundary of the Jungle, providing a shortcut to the Swamp area.
N.B. Rope is made from Tree Vine, but they share a single stack in your
Home. You must ask your partner to make Ropes for you. Tree Vines are used
to create the Large Trap and the Fish Trap but you will find that their main
use is for Rope. Rope is used in all Building Projects.
Tree Bark
Thoroughly dried tree bark. Needed to make a fire starter.
Tree Bark can be obtained from one tree directly outside your first cave
home. You will find that the same trees 'drop' the same items every couple of
days. There is another Tree that yields Tree Bark in the 1st Stepping Stone
area northwest of the Cave House. A Fire Starter can be used repeatedly but
all tools ultimately break and must be replaced. There is no need, however,
to store Tree Bark as it always can be found somewhere on the map.
Leaf
This leaf is large and durable, making it very hard to tear. An ideal
material for making furniture exteriors.
Leaves are an important item in this game. They are used to create beds as
well as the outer wall of a Treehouse. Every building project that uses
Leaves requires quite a few of them, and it can be rather frustrating to be
forced to fill 10 slots in a rucksack or Shelf with leaves. The first two
stages of a Bed require 6 leaves each. The last stage of the Treehouse
requires 10. Like Tree Bark and Twigs, specific Trees 'drop' Leaves. You
need not collect them far in advance, but note the location of the Trees that
yield Leaves for future use. A Tree usually will yield two Leaves, although
once in awhile, you will obtain only one Leaf from a Tree.
Log
I can use this as lumber. I'll need a lot to make large furniture.
Logs are found primarily in the Jungle, although once in awhile, you can find
one washed up on the Beach. Logs are used in every building project, and you
may wish to store a few in preparation for building. Two logs can be found at
the entrance of the Jungle. Two more can be found further west inside
the 'maze' of the Jungle, and two can be found near the exit to the
Grasslands. Logs, like most items that are found in the wilds, reappear after
two or three days.
Stick
A sturdy, wooden stick. Very useful material for creating tools. It would be
a waste to burn it.
Specific Trees drop one stick every two or three days. The first area where
you will discover a stick is in the grassy area to the west of the 1st
stepping stones. (This is the area between your Cave Home and Beach 2.)
the game progresses, you will find more sticks than you ever will be able to
use. It is too bad really that one cannot be given an option to use them as
firewood!
N.B. A Stick can be used to create a Spear, a Bow and a Large Trap.
Twigs
These twigs are dry and pretty straight. They can be used as firewood or for
making tools.
Specific Trees drop a bundle of twigs (counted as 1 portion of firewood) every
As
two or three days. You will find one Tree that yields Twigs directly outside
your Cave House. There are three or four Trees on Beach 1 that yield Twigs as
well. Twigs are one of the most vital 'materials' in the game. They are used
daily to feed the fire. They are used to create any Fire Starter as well as
Arrows. All Lures are carved from Twigs.
N.B. It is only after a typhoon or hurricane that you will find more Twigs
than you ever could use. It is suggested that you create a complete set of
Lures after a severe storm in order to use as many Twigs as possible. The
maximum number of Twigs that can be stored in the stack for firewood is 30.
Large Bone
We can get these from large animals. Used to make fishing hooks and weapons.
Very light and durable, giving it extra value for tool making.
N.B. A large bone will be found on the ground near the Cooking area after you
cook Animal Meat. The first Animal whose meat yields a Large Bone probably
will be a Wolf. It is important to know that the appearance of a Large Bone
after cooking meat is random! Sometimes you will see a Large Bone after you
prepare a piece of meat; sometimes no Bone will appear at all. If you really
need a Large Bone, Quicksave the game BEFORE you cook the meat. If a Large
Bone does not appear afterwards, you can reload the game and try again.
You will not be able to use the Large Bone until you sharpen it. Once
sharpened, it can be used to make Spears, Fishing Rods and Arrows.
Fur
I have to shoot large animals to get this. It's soft and warm, so I'll bet I
can use it to make nice beds.
N.B. You will use Fur to create the highest upgrade of the Bed and the Table
Set. Whenever you kill a Wolf, you will see three items on the ground
afterwards: Meat, Lard and Fur. Unfortunately, Fur cannot be used to
create clothing. It would have been fun to sew fur clothes for Jack and Amy!
Stone
This kind of stone is common and easy to find. They can be used to make
fishing hooks and weapons.
You must use the 'Sharpen' option on any Stone before it can be used to create
any tool or weapon. A sharpened Stone is one of the materials used to make
Spears, Fishing Rods and Arrows.
Stones can be found on every Beach except Beach 4. They are found near the
western rock 'wall' of the Beach and will reappear after approximately three
days.
Green Bamboo
Straight and very flexible. It can be used as a Stick, or split and made into
Baskets. Very useful material.
There is a stand of Bamboo trees in the mountains above Beach 3. You can
access this area by going east immediately after you enter the Jungle area.
After going east, you will find a path that leads south. Raspberries grow
here. At the end of the path, you will be forced to go east again to find a
stand of 6 or 7 Bamboo trees. Green Bamboo is found at the foot of each
Bamboo Tree. Bamboo Sprouts can be found here as well.
Green Bamboo is used to make Baskets, Spears, Bows and Arrows. Your partner
will make the Baskets if you place the Green Bamboo you collect in the stack
against the northern wall of your home.
N.B. After any typhoon or hurricane, Green Bamboo will be blown off the
mountain by the wind. You will find six or seven pieces of it in the grassy
area between Beach 3 and the Jungle entrance. This is the same area
frequented by wolves in the evening.
Feather
A light, well-shaped bird's feather. Attaching feathers to the shaft of an
arrow will make it fly straight and aim will improve considerably.
N.B. You will find your first feathers probably when you discover and create
the shortcut that leads from the Lake back to your Cave House. Two feathers
will be found in the grassy area between the Lake and the river outside your
Cave House. After this, you will not find feathers on the ground again unless
you are staying at the Treehouse at Beach 4 during a Typhoon or Hurricane.
You then will find almost a dozen feathers beneath the trees, as well as many
Twigs, Sticks and pieces of Tree Bark.
If you need feathers quickly, you must shoot a Duck, Pigeon or Chicken. If
you trap these birds in a Small Trap, they will yield no Feathers.
Lard
Lard obtained from hunting. Can be used as a fuel or for deep frying food.
If you are interested in completing your Picturebook, you will need to use a
piece of lard to cook each of the Deep Fry dishes in the Recipe section once
as well as a piece of lard for each of the two Torches that can be created in
the game.
Sharpened Stone
A sharpened stone. Used to make items such as weapon tips and fishing hooks.
Use the 'Make Tool' option to create a Sharpened Stone from a Stone found at
the Beach.
Sharpened Bone
A sharpened bone. Used to make items such as weapon tips and fishing hooks.
Use the 'Make Tool' option to create a Sharpened Bone from a Large Bone after
cooking meat from a large animal.
Basket
A basket made out of bamboo. It's essential for making a trap.
Baskets are made by your partner using Green Bamboo. Whenever you collect
Green Bamboo, place it in the stack along the northern wall of your home, then
ask your partner to make Baskets from it.
Baskets are used to create the Small Trap and the Fish Trap. The Small Trap
is one of the most useful tools in this game.
Iron Rod
A straight, solid rod of iron. Great for making sturdy tools, but pretty hard
to come by.
An Iron Rod can be found in the little circle of sand high on the shore of
Beach 1 after a Typhoon or Hurricane. Iron Rods can be found after severe
storms in the grass near Beach 4 as well. They sometimes can be found when
diving.
An Iron Rod can be used to create a simple Spear or Arrow. Oddly enough, a
Spear made from an Iron Rod will break almost as easily as a Spear made from
a Stick.
Fish
Abalone
A large one-sided clam found attached to rocks. It has a bumpy textured shell
which is packed with meat. A delicacy with a wonderful crunchy texture.
Abalone is found when diving. There is another way to acquire Abalone: if
you ask your partner to collect food, he/she may bring back a piece of
Abalone. When you transfer it to your Rucksack, it will be entered in your
Picturebook.
Short-neck
The most commonly found clam along the beach. It makes the best tasting clam
chowder. You'll need milk, vegetables and spice in order to make it.
N.B. Although the Picturebook description dwells upon Clam Chowder, a ShortNeck can be cooked using any method. It is one of the first items you will
find on the Beach, hidden beneath a mound of sand. When you stand next to it,
you will see '???'. Use your stylus to uncover it.
Clam
The meat is plump and fleshy. It's on the large side for a bivalve clam. It
should be good either grilled or in a soup.
This large Clam will be found when diving. The other way to acquire it is by
asking your partner to forage for food. He/she may bring home a Clam, along
with other items. Transfer it to your rucksack in order to have it added to
the Picturebook.
Scallop
A larger-sized clam, it lives deep in the ocean so it is hard to get to. The
best chance to get them is when the tide ebbs. It's full of nice juicy meat.
Scallops can be found strewn along the shore of Beach 2. They can be gathered
directly from the sand. You will not be obliged to uncover them.
Oyster
It's supposedly called the 'milk of the sea'. Tasty and full of nutrients. I
heard you can eat these raw, but are the ones on this island okay? I don't
want to get sick so I'll cook them instead.
Like Scallops, Oysters can be found along the tideline of Beach 3 and can be
gathered directly from the sand. They can be found when diving as well.
Freshwater Clam
You can find lots of them where the river and the ocean meet. It's a smallersized clam. It tastes good when made into soup. I wonder how many I need in
order to be full.
Freshwater Clams will be found on Beach 1, hidden beneath mounds of sand and
designated by '???'. Uncover them with your stylus in order to collect them.
Seaweed
Seaweed is washed ashore. A rather easy food supply to obtain. Full of fibre
and minerals, it tastes good when added to soup.
Seaweed can be collected from almost every Beach. In fact, 'Seaweed Salad' is
one of the first proper Recipes you will be able to complete.
Red Sea Urchin
Proected by countless prickly spines. Crack open its shell and eat it while
it's fresh for a surprisingly delicious flavour. A true delicacy of the sea.
Sea Urchin is found when diving.
Mackerel
This fish doesn't have a strong pull so it is a rather easy fish to catch.
Tastes good when grilled or dried.
If you use a Spear or Fishing Rod to fish near the western rock 'wall' of
Beach 2 at low tide, you may catch a Mackerel.
Striped Breakperch
A fish caught along the shore, which has a distinct white and black stripe and
a strong pull.
You may catch this fish at night if you fish from the eastern end of Beach 2
at low tide.
Sillaginoid
A commonly caught nice looking small fish. It has a tasty, light, delicate
meat, which is good grilled or fried.
This is the fish you will catch most often when fishing in the ocean at Beach
1.
Balloon Fish
From the puffer fish family except without poison. It has a lot of spines so
it's tough to prepare and doesn't have much meat on it. Tastes good as soup.
This fish can be caught from Beach 3.
Moray
It has jagged sharp teeth which can hurt you badly if bitten. Despite having
a harsh and grotesque appearance, it has a light, delicate, tasty white meat.
This fish can be caught by fishing at the western end of Beach 3.
Sardine
It swims in schools close to the surface. It doesn't have a strong pull so
it's easy to catch. It doesn't fill you up, but it tastes good when dried.
This probably is the fish you will catch most often when fishing at Beach 2.
Sting Fish
A fish that lives near the shore who often nibbles at any bait. It has a
large head, large mouth and bulging eyes, but it tastes good. The sting from
its fin really hurts.
This is the fish you will catch most often when fishing at Beach 4. It
sometimes can be found when fishing near the western rock 'wall' of Beach 1 as
well.
File Fish
It has a hard, rough skin so you need to skin it before preparing it. It has
a light, delicate, tasty white meat. The liver tastes exceptionally good!
You may catch this fish if you fish from the centre of Beach 2.
Flatfish
It has a strange shape with both eyes on one side of its head. This tasty
delicacy has a firm flesh. Tastes excellent pan-fried.
This fish may be found if you fish from the centre of Beach 4.
Sea Bream
A bright red coloured prime grade fish. Makes you happy when it is caught.
It tastes good in any dish, simmered or broiled.
This fish may be caught in the early hours of the morning before dawn when
fishing at the eastern end of Beach 3.
Parrot Fish
A large colourful fish with a hard, strong beak. Sometimes it will cut the
fishing line.
This fish may be found if you fish from the centre of Beach 4.
Black Nibbler
A fish known for its long tail which gets longer as it ages. The big ones
have a strong pull,
and often escape.
This fish may be found near the cliff at Beach 2 during high tide.
Yellowfin Goby
A fish often caught near the river's mouth. Its protruding lower jaw comes in
handy when digging a hole to lay eggs in.
This fish may be found at the south end of Beach 3.
Sea Bass
This fish is called by different names at different stages of its growth. A
great catch when lure fishing.
This fish may be found at Beach 4 during high tide.
Sweetfish
It can only be caught in a clean river. It is said that if there are
Sweetfish in the river, then it must be clean. Good to grill with salt!
This fish may be caught when fishing from the middle stone of the stepping
stones between the Cave House and the grassy steppes leading to the Lake.
Catfish
Caught in the river. I guess it must live at the bottom because it has a
funky smell. Great when fried.
This fish may be caught at night when fishing at the north side of the Lake
from the land that extends into the centre of the Lake. Fish from the right
shore of this peninsula.
Arowana
A large, ancient fish that lives in the river. I think it eats small fish.
Large and filling, but doesn't taste so great.
This fish may be caught from the western side of the Underground Lake.
Carp
Lives in calm fresh waters with little or no current. Need to clean off the
mud or it smells funky. Should taste good boiled.
This fish may be caught when fishing from the southern shore of the
Underground Lake, accessed by following the path in the centre.
Eel
This long, freshwater creature is easier to catch at night. Hard to grab
because its skin is slimy. Fatty and very good when skewer broiled. Highly
nutritious.
This fish may be caught from the middle stepping stone on the south side of
the Lake at night.
Crucian
This freshwater fish is relatively easy to catch. It's flat and has little
meat. Not enough to ease my hunger.
This fish may be caught from almost any freshwater source, whether river or
lake.
Char
Normally hides in rocky areas of mountain streams, and is extra active on
rainy days. Better go out when it rains to catch these.
Oddly enough, the Char can be found on any day, even in fair weather, when
fishing from the middle stepping stone between the grasslands and the Jungle.
Salmon
Relatively big fish that goes upstream to spawn.
This fish can be found in the southwest river area in the Lake screen.
Masu Salmon
The Masu Salmon lives out its whole life in the river. Tastes great when
grilled with salt.
Masu Salmon can be caught when fishing from the middle stepping stone in the
Beach 2 area (Use your spear from the middle stone of the 1st Stepping Stones
between the Cave house and Beach 2).
Japanese Huchen
A phantom giant freshwater fish that is very cautious and is seldom caught.
Its main features include a big, long body and huge mouth.
This fish can be found if fishing from the eastern side of the Underground
Lake in the Ruins.
Rainbow Trout
Known for the rainbow pattern running along its scales. A popular catch when
lure fishing. Tastes great when pan-fried to a golden brown!
This fish can be found at the eastern river in the Lake screen.
Animals:
N.B. In this game, shellfish like Crabs are included in the Animal section of
the Picturebook.
Hermit Crab
This strange little creature with a top shell can eventually be found on the
beach when searching long enough. Getting it out of the shell is not an easy
task, but it tastes great in soup.
Sand Crab
A small crab often found when searching the beach. Not much meat, but grind
it up shell and all, then put it in soup for a treat.
Coconut Crab
A crab with big pincers which lives around the mangrove. Break its hard shell
to eat the meat. It's delicious!!!
