INTRODUCTION

Foreword
Every company has its own visual representation. Its brand and a unified visual style help
the company to create its visual representation. The visual style (corporate graphic design)
is an important means of communication, through which the company can actively shape its
identity and image.
A high quality and professionally designed graphic style communicates the companys basic
values, demonstrates its integrity and stability and enhances its credibility externally and
internally.
The brand and visual style belong to the key tools for enhancing awareness of the company
among experts and the general public alike and are a proof of its professionalism and
uniqueness. It is precisely this uniqueness of a brand and the continuous systematic
work with it that help make it easier to identify the company in todays highly competitive
environment.

INTRODUCTION

Working with the manual


The basic elements of the unified visual style are the logo, typeface, colours, and additional
graphic elements. These elements and the manner of their use are codified in the corporate
design manual. The design manual is a system of binding rules, drawings and examples for
how to proceed in applying the logo and corporate graphic design.
The Generali PPF Holding B.V. brand came into existence as a result of the union of two
existing brands that of Generali and that of PPF, a.s. The basic guideline for the compilation
of this design manual were the graphic manual rules defining the use of the Generali brand
while respecting the rules for using the PPF, a.s. brand.
The manual is divided into seven comprehensible chapters based on the areas of brand
application. The individual chapters clearly and precisely define the basic elements of
theunified visual style and their specific applications. To facilitate work with the manual,
drawings of applications are accompanied with detailed descriptions.
The Generali PPF Holding B.V. design manual was prepared in the electronic form
and is available in the .pdf format. These electronic data should be used consistently
inimplementing the unified visual style in order to prevent any distortion of the brand or other
elements of the corporate design.
All employees and staff of Generali PPF Holding B.V. should be instructed about the design
manual and the basic rules applying to the companys unified visual style. They should
then be able to coordinate and maintain the setting of the visual style in implementations
with thecompanys external contractors. The aim of these steps is to systematically and
continually strengthen the Generali PPF Holding B.V. brand.

Business name
Generali PPF Holding B.V., organisational unit having its registered office at Praha 4,
NaPankrci 121/1658, Postal Code 140 21, was incorporated in the Companies Register
on 30 January 2008. The scope of its business is the activities of business, financial,
organisational, and economic advisors; trade and service facilitation; administrative services;
and organisational/economic services. It was established by an international entity Generali
PPF Holding B.V. Generali PPF Holding B.V. is governed by the rules of the Kingdom of
theNetherlands and is incorporated in the Companies Register of the Amsterdam Chamber
of Commerce under Reg. No. 34275688.

The business name consists of the name of Generali PPF Holding and the second part
B.V. defines the legal form of the company. The legal form is always written without spaces
between letters see the entry in the Companies Register.
The business name should occur in the form described above in any official text dealing with
the company. Therefore the following alternatives are not permissible:

Basic form of the LOGO


The Generali PPF Holding B.V. logo originated from the union of two existing logos that
of Generali and that of PPF, a.s. Both logos respect the principles defined in the design
manuals governing their use.
The logo consists of two formerly separate graphic elements. Their close connection,
preserving their own graphic identity and balanced proportion, transparently represents
thecompany that came into existence as a result of the partnership of the two companies.
Thebasic colours of the logo are the established corporate colours red for Generali and
deep blue and silver for PPF.
See chapter 2.10 for information on the form of the logo with text i.e. the connection
ofthelogo and the company name.

The preferred colour design of the logo utilises the basic corporate colours:
Generali red, PPF deep blue, and PPF silver.

Where necessary the logo can be used in the greyscale form as well. This is fully derived
from the coloured form. The greyscale brand should be used and will make the best
impression on white background.
The greyscale form of the logo is used where the coloured logo cannot be used or is not
desirable.

In exceptional cases, primarily for technical reasons, it is necessary to use a monochrome
form of the logo (for faxing). Thus the greyscale will not be used (see item 2.4).

2.6

Detailed description of the logo


The detailed description defines the shape of the logo, the placement of the individual
elements, their shapes, sizes, and proportions. The detailed description is an aid for
checking if the logo is applied correctly.
The detailed description is not intended for the construction of the logo. The precise form
ofthe logo is defined in the data form in the vector computer formats saved on a CD-ROM
with the logo administrator.

2.7

Minimal protection zone


The protection zone is an integral part of the logo. It ensures its proper impact and easy
legibility and contributes to the perception of the logo as a separate graphic element with its
own, unique identity.
The protection zone defines the minimal area in the immediate surroundings of the logo
where no text, graphic element or background may be present.

2.8

Dimension range
When applying the Generali PPF Holding B.V. logo it is recommended to use the dimensions
based on the dimension range specified below.
The basic size of the logo (100%) is recommended for normal use on the A4 format (primarily
office stationery letterhead, fax, memo etc.).
To ensure the legibility and graphic impact of the logo, a fixed minimal size of the logo is
defined (40% for all forms of the logo), which must not be exceeded.

The coloured form of the Generali PPF Holding B.V. logo shall always be applied on white
background, where it has the greatest impact. The size of the white background shall always
match the minimal protection zone of the logo.

A special plastic alternative of the logo shall be used e.g. on glass, leather or wood,
onvarious types of metals or textiles where the logo is applied using various processes
(sanding, engraving, stamping etc.).

Logo basic form of the logo with text


The Generali PPF Holding B.V. logo has its own form where it is used together with
thecompany name. The form of the logo with text is used where the application does not
feature any additional information on the company in the form of contact information etc.
in the immediate proximity of the logo. When applying this approach, the company name
should not be duplicated.
The principle for creating the logo with the text is the same for other selected companies
of the holding. The logo consists of two basic graphic elements and the company name
executed in the appropriate font (for information on typeface see chapter 3).

Detailed description of the logo with text


The basic rules for constructing the logo are the same as for constructing
the logos basic form.

Toensure that the logo is clearly
legible, it can be used at a minimal

and limit its graphic impact.

Prohibited variations of the logo


This design manual precisely and clearly defines the logos form including its applications.
These defined rules shall not be amended or modified in any manner.
For the sake of clarity, certain examples of incorrect construction of the logo are provided
below (distortions of the logo, font modifications, non-observance of proportions, modified
colours, modified treatment of the company name etc.).

3.1

Basic font Latin


The font is another of the basic elements of the companys unified visual style.
The basic font for Generali PPF Holding B.V. is Berthold Bodoni, which is also the basic
font for Generali. This serif font is used in all printed materials and publications for longer,
descriptive texts. It complements the company logo and together they form its unmistakable
visual style.
The second basic font for Generali PPF Holding B.V. is Helvetica Neue. This sans-serif
font is easier to read than the Bodoni font. It is used primarily when working with factual
information.
The third basic font is GeneraliLogo Regular. This is a specially modified font used exclusively
for constructing the Generali group logos.

The basic text is set using the Regular typeface,
the Medium typeface is used for highlighted text,
headings and titles.

Helvetica Neue
The permitted typefaces are Light, Roman,
Medium and Bold. The basic text is set using the
Light or Roman typeface, the Medium and Bold
typefaces are used for highlighted text, headings
and titles. When combining typefaces, it is
necessary to achieve a clear distinction. Therefore
it is recommended to use either the Light and
Medium (Bold) or Roman and Bold typefaces
together.

The basic Bodoni Cyrillic font is used in all printed materials and publications for longer,

If the basic font cannot be used for technical reasons, an additional font will be used.
ForGenerali PPF Holding B.V. these are two common fonts Times and Arial. Times is used
instead of Bodoni, Arial replaces Helvetica. It is permitted to use the Regular typeface for
basic text and Bold typeface for highlighted text, headings or titles.

Basic colours
Colours play a very important role in the companys visual style. The chosen colours become
the bearers of the corporate identity and enhance the companys visual presentation.
The basic corporate colours build on the colours of both logo elements. The Generali red
represents confidence and warmness, emphasising trust and reliability. Dominating the PPF
logo, blue supports its basic characteristics strength, dynamics, openness. The additional
silver works as a stabilising element that brings credibility. An alternative to the PPF silver,
grey (K = 38%) is used only where silver cannot be applied for process reasons.

In addition to the basic colours, this design manual recommends other additional colours
aswell. They consist of several degrees of grey.
These colours are applied where the basic colours do not suffice. The additional colours
are chosen so as to correspond with the basic colours of the corporate visual style and its

Principles of the visual style


The principal traits of Generali PPF Holding B.V.s unified visual style are purity, simplicity and
elegance. The main identification items are the logo, its colours, and the chosen corporate
font (see chapters 2, 3 and 4).
A vertical grey line is an additional corporate design element. It is placed so as to attract
attention to the information that needs to be highlighted (e.g. contact information etc.).

Consistency and systematic work with corporate design support the perception
of the brand by the general public and experts alike. This way, they help towards the easy
and unmistakable identification of the brand on the market. Office stationery is the most
frequently used tool for the visual presentation of the company. It usually creates the first,
unmistakable impression of the company. This is why it is essential to not only clearly define,
but also consistently observe fixed rules for the application of the logo and a unified visual
style. You can find the precise definitions of the rules on the following pages. The detailed
descriptions of the applications are prepared so as to provide the maximum help in working

Electronic templates
A set of electronic templates for MS Office Word was created for certain types of the
corporate office stationery. The Bodoni font is a special typeface which is not available
on standard PC. Therefore, in templates all sections using the Bodoni font are replaced
with apicture (.eps) to avoid problems with a missing font. We recommend to follow this
procedure when creating other templates.
The set of templates is available on the CD Corporate Design Manual.
