motion, and phase transitions.
• 3.2.cA6:
o Identify questions and concepts that guide scientific investigations.
o Formulate and revise explanations and models using logic and evidence.
o Recognize and analyze alternative explanations and models.
o Explain the importance of accuracy and precision in making valid
measurements.
o Examine the status of existing theories.
o Evaluate experimental information for relevance and adherence to science

• C.N.1.1.3: Organize details in an effective narrative pattern (e.g., setting,
characters, dialogue, plot, point of view, tone).

Lesson Objective(s)
(Stated in observable and measurable terms)
• Students will be able to explain the relationship between equilibrium and changes
of state.
• Students will be able to discuss and interpret a phase diagram.
• Students will be able to describe in detail the processes of boiling, melting,
freezing, and sublimation.
Assessment Plan
(What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)
• A unit exam will be given at the conclusion of Chapter 10.
• Students will be graded weekly on the progress of their Weebly page.

Materials:
• Textbook
• Overhead Projector
• Notebook
• Access to the computer lab
• Access to the internet
Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs:
Assignments and instruction will be altered according to each student’s IEP in order to
meet their special needs.
Enrichment Techniques:
Material presented in class will be enriched through the assignments in the computer
labs. Students will be asked to demonstrate the material presented in class through
projects such as Photo Show, Glogster, Open Office, etc.

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students

have access to and are able to participate in the lesson):

Students will be given ample amount of time to create and finish all computer lab
assignments in-class. Those who have access to the programs at home will be able to
make additional adjustments as they see fit. Computer assignments will not be assigned
as homework.

LESSON PRESENTATION

Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:

An introduction to Section 4, Changes of State, will be presented to the class via a Power
Point presentation along with guided notes.
Detailed Teaching Sequence:
(Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted
statements are preferred)
• The teacher will present the topics of Section 4 via a power point presentation.
Students will be provided with guided notes to help them organize and understand
the information presented.
• The teacher will distribute the Changes of State work sheet that will be completed
by the class in groups of two.
• A review of the concepts presented on the worksheet will be facilitated by the
teacher.
• Students will be dismissed to the computer lab.
• The teacher will demonstrate the functionality of Open Office to the class.
• The students will construct an informative flier describing the changes of state of
water. Students may create the flier containing at least two states of water.

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities

An assessment of the student’s knowledge of the states of water will be illustrated
through their informative flier.
Closure:
Class will close by announcing the review session that will take place in tomorrow’s
class.
