Application for Post: Associate Professor Criminal Justice Department
Dr Kholofelo Mothibi attained a Bachelor of Arts at the University of the North (now the
University of Limpopo) in 2004 and Bachelor of Arts Honors (Criminology) in 2005. In 2007 I
obtained a certificate from Rhodes University qualifying as an accredited assessor. I studied
for the Master of Arts Degree in Criminology at the University of Limpopo and the degree
was awarded in 2008. In 2012 I completed PhD in Criminology and the degree was
conferred in May 2013. I am currently employed as a senior lecturer at the University of
Limpopo, Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
Beyond research successes, I have a wide range of teaching and research experience. In
2007, I worked as a tutor at the University of South Africa (Polokwane Satellite) where I
taught the administration of justice. I have been a lecturer at the University of Limpopo,
school of social science in the department of criminology for the past seven years. I teach
both undergraduates and postgraduates (Specialised in crime prevention, policing,
victimology, criminological theories, ecological victimisation and individual crime studies). So
far I have supervised 8 honors students; currently supervising 5 honors and 4 masters
students and in the process of publishing doctoral findings. As a lecturer I was involved in
various external research projects where I participated as a data analyst and researcher. My
research interests are in the following fields: hate crimes, green criminology, policy analysis,
crime prevention, policing and victimology.
My teaching methodology is student-centered and takes into account students diverse
learning style. The fundamental premises of my teaching philosophy are that I feel true
passion for teaching and for helping my students. I am experienced with teaching large
classes of over 400 hundred students. To measure student learning, I provide multiple
assessments. Over my 9 years of teaching experience, these assessments have been
included: presentations, traditional exams, peer assessments, writing activities, collaborative
research projects etc.
