Abstract: This paper presents the results of multiphase flow numerical simulations in ventilation
mill-mixing duct with louvers separator of Kostolac B power plant (Serbia). Simulations are
performed using both the mixture model of the Euler-Euler approach and Euler-Lagrange
approach of ANSYS FLUENT software package. The gas mixture distribution at the burner feed
ducts obtained by the Euler-Euler mixture model is in a good agreement with the experiment, but
this model gives the large differences between the calculated and measured pulverised coal
distribution. Much better agreement of the coal distribution at the burners is obtained using the
Euler-Lagrange approach with discrete phase model (DPM). It is noticed that, due to the narrow
gaps between the louvers, only a small fraction of the pulverised coal passes through the gaps.
The DPM model is used in redesign louvers separators geometry, to obtain optimal distribution
of the pulverised coal at the burners.

Biographical notes: Mirko Kozi received his PhD from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering,
Belgrade University in 1993. He is a Senior Research Associate worked in development and
application of CFD. In the last several years, he has been working in preparing numerical
simulations using software FLUENT for wide range of problems, starting from aeronautical area
(airplane and helicopter loads, calculation of collection efficiency, etc.). Besides that, flow
around wind and tidal turbine as well as movement of smoke due to fire in the traffic tunnel were
simulated and analysed. Also, the simulations and analysis of gas mixture flow and motion of the
coal powder particles in the power plant mill have been performed.
Slavica Ristic received her PhD from School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade in
1993. She is a Principal Research Fellow and she has experience in experimental fluid
mechanics, holographic interferometry, optical and non-optical method of flow visualisation,
laser Doppler anemometry, numerical flow simulation and flow visualisation, thermal science,
thermography.
Mirjana Puharic received her PhD from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Belgrade University
in 2009. She is a Research Associate and she has experience in experimental fluid dynamics and
in software application that can be implemented in different areas, such as: research,
development, simulation and optimisation of processes and products, design and construction,
analysis of the load, introduction of information technology in product development, application
of computer design (product design, analysis and simulation of flow, elastomechanical
simulation, etc.).
