ATHLETICS AT AIS

If you were lucky at some point this past weekend you

were able to stop by the school to watch the Varsity
NESAC Basketball Tournament. We had 6 boys and 6
girls teams competing for the NESAC banner. I am happy
to report that the Varsity Girls were able to prevail over
the ASK Falcons taking the championship title and
therefore earning the first place banner. After an
amazing tournament with an undefeated record the
Varsity Boys lost a hard fought battle against AIS Riyadh
in a very close contest. The atmosphere during the finals
was amazing and the gym was full of fans cheering on our
Lions. I would like to congratulate Martina Plicka and
Brian Deuth coaches of the girls team and Abdo Shedyak
and Michael Bond Clegg coaches of the boys team on an
amazing season.
It is official we now have U12 soccer at AIS. Jeff
Handley and two DP students Faysal and Nasser are
coaching the boys team while Megan Robar and Claudia
(another DP student) are leading the girls. The girls team
had their first game against ASK and came out victorious
in their efforts.
The U14 basketball teams continue in their league play.
The boys team has remained undefeated throughout while
the girls picked up a win against BBS in their most recent
game. We wish them luck in their upcoming tournament
play.
Our badminton season is well underway. Coaching the
Varsity team is Chris Cotton, the JV, Jo Smith and U14
Abby Franks and Connie Hedderson. League matches start
this week at AIS and continue until the end of April.
Just a reminder to all staff that the running club is still in
session every Tuesday after the staff meeting. The staff
and students gather in the front lobby and take a bus to
the Corniche for a 40 minute run. There are all levels of
runners with some people opting to do run walk intervals.

Monday March 16, boys vs. ASK at 3:30 on the Main Table Top
Wednesday March 18, girls vs. Dasman at 3:30 on the Main Table Top
Thursday March 19, boys vs. ACA at 3:30 at the ACA boys campus
U14 BASKETBALL
Saturday March 21, girls vs. AAG at 10am in the Main Gym
Boys and Girls U14 playoffs will take place at BBS, schedule dependent on final standings
in league play
BADMINTON
Monday March 16 at 3:30 the JV and Varsity teams play against UAS and ACA at AIS
Sunday March 22 at 3:30 the JV and Varsity teams play against ASK, DBS, and AAG at
AIS
