FEF College Industry

Conference
The 2013 FEF College Industry Conference will be
held November 2122 in
Chicago.

November Meeting
Generations in the Workplace:
Conflict or Collaboration?
Sharon Lovoy
Lovoys Teamworks
Managers are discovering that the different generations often are frustrated with one another.
There are now four different generations in the
workplace. Now that they are mixed, can they be
managed and why should employers care if the
generations work and play well together? Sharon Lovoy will take us through this discussion so
that we see what each generation has to offer.
Sharon has over 25 years experience in the field of
Human Resources Management and Development. She has over 250 clients including Mercedes Benz USI, The Southern Company, Energen, Lockheed Martin, Vulcan Industries, Alfa,
Alagasco, and The University of Alabama.

Attendance
We had 74 in attendance at
the October meeting and
still have 18 members with
perfect attendance. There
were 24 that attended the
Furnace Mini-Seminar.

From the Desk of the Chapter Chairman...

Hello Birmingham Chapter!
We had a great turnout for our October meeting and mini seminar. Twenty-four members took advantage of a fantastic mini seminar on furnace
installation and maintenance. Speakers Chuck Cushing of EMSCO, Jack
McMillin of Ajax Tocco, and Ted Kostilnik of Specialty Foundry Products
deserve much thanks and kudos for a job well done. I would also like to
thank Tim Herring of ABP, and Stephen Lee of Capital Refractories Inc.
for sitting on the panel which offered a great open discussion on all types
of furnace care and refractory options. And of course a huge THANK
YOU to Molly Cameron for organizing this event. Great job MOLLY!
After our mini seminar we had the honor of hearing George Houghton of
Carbide Industries, share with us the story of their catastrophic explosion
and rebuild. What a great testament we can all look up to. We will have
Sharon Lovoy as our November meeting guest speaker. Plan now to
come listen Sharon discuss Generations In The Workplace.
As October draws to an end and we get ready to welcome November and
the Holidays, I can think of a few things in the news to scare me. The politicians in Washington, the recent shut down, the debt this country incurs
every day, and the new health care law, is enough to scare the daylights
out of anyone. But, we have much to be thankful for as well. As we sit
down for Thanksgiving with our friends and families, let us reflect upon
our industry, let us be thankful for AFS members like you who promote
and support our industry and for our customers, whom we would not survive without.
