Diamond Military Officer Tryout

Power Point Presentation

Directions: Each slide in the power point should be one “page.” Be sure you have corrected grammar,
spelling, etc. It must be easy to read and review. You may turn the power point in on a CD for viewing on
the computer. You may design, decorate any way you feel is appropriate, but remember the quality is
more important than the fluff….

Section 1- Leadership Questions:

1. Which Military officer exemplified her position to the fullest capacity this year and how?
2. Which Military Officer did not exemplify her position and how could she have better handled
things throughout the year?
3. What was your biggest struggle this year on Diamonds and how will you work on that struggle
for next year if you make Military Officer?
4. How do you think the Director would describe you as a Diamond? Is it the way you want her to
always describe you or do you feel you can improve? How?
5. What is Morale? Why is it important in Diamonds? How should officers promote positive
morale?
6. What do you think are some expectations the Director has for the Military Officers? Explain in
detail.
7. What are some things that could help the Diamonds run more smoothly?
8. How can the Officer line help the Director keep order in the team?
9. What was your favorite memory of this year as a Diamond?
10. What is it you are most looking forward to if you are fortunate to become a Diamond Military
Officer? What do you want to bring to the Officer Line and Team next year?

Section 2- Pyramid

Creatively demonstrate the chain of command in Diamonds. Be sure to consult the constitution so you
know what all the officer duties will be for the year.

Why is this important?

Section 3- Positions

1. What officer positions are you seeking? What makes you the most qualified for this position
over the other candidates?
2. List each Officer position you would like to be considered for at tryouts. If you do not list a
position, you will not be able o make that position.
3. Are there any positions you did not seek? If so, why not?
4. If you do not make a Military Officer position, what is your plan for next year? Please be honest.
5. For returning Officers only- If you make the same position you hold now, what is your plan for
next year?
6. Assuming that not everyone can make Military Officer, rank the candidates in the officer
positions you think they deserve ( there is no exact number of lieutenants)
Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, 1st Lieutenant, Lieutenants
7. Explain why you did not rank the following candidates.

Section 4- Resume

Present your resume. This should include all school, dance, leadership experience you have had.

Section 5- Report Card

Section 6- Solo

Type out your solo. Make sure you have spelled all dance terms correctly. Check with your Director for
questions.

Section 7- Merits & Demerits

1. List all of your merits and demerits


2. Do you think it is important for officers to have no demerits? Why?
3. Do you have any demerits you need to explain?
4. Why are Merits important?

Section 8- Creativity

Create an idea for a novelty dance. Come up with a fun recognizable song(s). Include an idea for
choreography and costume. Include pricing for costumes and a copy of the song on a separate CD.

Power points are due to Mrs. Mills by March 1, 2009!

Teaching:

You will need to sign up to teach Diamonds in the Rough 7th period. The dates to teach will be March 3-
12. You will need to make arrangements and get permission from your 7th period teacher. Your lesson
should include a warm-up stretch with music and 4 8-counts of choreography to any appropriate song
and style of your choice. Do not have different parts or sections, and movements should be simple for
beginning dancers. You will have 15-20 minutes to complete this lesson.

You must sign up for your teaching date by February 17, 2009

Constitution Test-You will be given a test over the constitution. It will be around 50 questions and your
score will be added to your try-out score. This is not an open note exam and it will cover the entire
2009-2010 Diamond Constitution.
Your constitution test will be given on March 12, 2009 at 2:30PM

Solos and Group Dance-

You will learn a short piece of choreography that you will perform in groups for the judges. You will also
perform your solo for your team and the judges. The group dance will be performed wearing all Black
and black jazz pants. The solo will be performed in any costume of your choice.

You will learn your group dance Wednesday, March 24. You must have performed your solo at one
contest.

Star Modeling-

During try-outs with the judges, you will perform a 5-point star before your solo. You will be wearing
your costume for your solo at this time. At each point you will create 1-8count including the skill
assigned to that point of the star. You will then walk to the next pint of the star only taking 8 steps
between each point. The judges WILL count your steps to make sure you followed directions. You start
at point 1 and go thru the entire star, holding your ending position until the Director tells you to relax.

Point 1- A la second

Point 4- Triple Pirouette and axle Point 3- Floorwork

Point 5- Left leap and ending pose

Point 2- Right Jete
