K.ML.1.1 Exemplify proper technique when singing and playing a variety of music.
AA: High and low sounds
AA: Are the students beginning the process of understanding how to sing with the proper technique of using
their head voice, with a proper light sound, not yelling! Hear individuals for beginning assessment.
K.ML.1.3
Execute simple rhythms using body, instruments, or voice.
AA: Students play with body percussion the beat, using hands on their body to mark the beat safely while
singing!

Use singing, playing, and/or moving to respond to a variety of musical ideas.

Materials needed:
Props: slide whistle ( head voice work), soft ball, box for pretend bubble gum
Instruments: Bass Xylophone, piano/keyboard
Acc. Percussion: hand drum?
Previewing Key Vocabulary/Music Terms : melody, head voice, personal space, sitting legs folded (Crisp
cross apple sauce)

Activating Strategy (Musical Warm-up)


1. Using a hand drums students enter room stepping to the beat stopping when the drum stops!
2. Students follow the leader to their number spot remind students to leave the tape alone

3. Head Voice work
a. Vocal sirens quickly today!
b. Slide Whistle echo teachermake sure students wait for teacher
i. Show me with your whole body the sound.
ii. Start in high or low space?
c. Start I Like To Eat do not change the vowels todaydiscuss but dont do!

Students sit: i.e. Mr. R asks for students to sit - crisps cross apple sauce!

c. Students echo sing/with change to beat keeping ( bilateral movement patting on legs)
Exploration
a. Add game with ball for students

ii. Any words sound the same or rhyme?
iii. Where do these words rhyme beginning of the parts of the song?, ending parts of the song?
Improvisation
a. Try to get students to say the name of the person they are passing the ball to
b. Look for other students how are doing a good job of keeping the beat and singing

Extension if time
a. Have students stand, keep a beat for 8 and freeze for 8 using - using Theme from Northern Exposure
b. AA: are the students able to imitate the teach keeping a beat in different Bp locations, watch and check
individuals for beat control
