Basic Life Support (BLS)

A. Basic life support

BLS (basic life support), are things any (first aid measures) were conducted to
restore someone who had stopped breathing.
If you find a person (hereinafter referred to as the patient) in a state of
unconsciousness, do the following:
Pay attention to your surroundings. Pay attention to your personal safety first
before helping others.
Check if the patient is conscious or not. Do it with a shake of his body or dial by
name greeting.
Ask for help
If the patient is unresponsive or unconscious, do ABC, namely:
1. A, Airway. The first to be assessed is the smoothness of the airway. This includes
examining the presence of airway obstruction that can be caused by a foreign body,
facial bone fractures, fractures of the lower jaw or upper jaw, fractured trachea.
Attempt to free the airway must protect the neck bones. In this case do chin lift or
jaw thrust. In patients who are unable to speak, can be considered the airway clean,
however reassessment of the airway should be performed.
2. B, Breathing. Airway good does not guarantee good ventilation. Gas exchange
occurs during breathing absolute for the exchange of oxygen and remove carbon
dioxide from the body. Good ventilation covers the good functioning of the lungs,
chest wall, and diaphragm. Each of these components must be evaluated quickly.
Check breathing by means Look, Listen, and Feel. See whether or not the patient
breathes. Listen, breath sounds, and feel his breath.
If the patient is breathing:

If the optimal breathing with normal frequency, place the patient in the recovery
position.
If breathing is not optimal and the frequency is faster or slower than normal, do
breaths with one puff every 5 seconds.
Check the pulse on the side of the neck area, each 30 to 60 seconds.
If the patient is not breathing:
Perform word of mouth breathing (mouth to mouth) or from the mouth to the
nose (mouth to nose), with breaths slowly. Perform 2 seconds per breaths.
Check the C (Circulation), to check the pulse
3. C, Circulation. Check the patient's blood circulation by checking the pulse.

If the pulse is palpable patient, but the patient is not breathing, give back
respiratory assistance. Whereas if the patient did not palpable pulse Cardiac
Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
