Q1. Doctor, Out of 100 patients that you see how many suffer from
tuberculosis?
19% of MD Medicine doctors and 22% of General Practitioners state that they get
10 cases of Tuberculosis out of 100 patients they receive.

16% of MD Medicine doctors state that they get 15 cases of Tuberculosis out of 100
patients they receive.

14% of Paediatricians state that they get 3 cases of Tuberculosis out of 100 patients
they receive.

Q2.What are the symptoms that tuberculosis patients show, when they
come for the first time to you?
MD (medicine):
74% of MD Medicine doctors say fever is the most common symptom that
tuberculosis patients show when they first come.
72% % of MD Medicine doctors say cough is the most common symptom that
tuberculosis patients show when they first come.
Paediatricians:
30% of Paediatricians say fever is the most common symptom that tuberculosis
patients show when they first come.
26% of Paediatricians say cough is the most common symptom that tuberculosis
patients show when they first come.
General Practitioners:
71% of General Physicians say fever is the most common symptom that tuberculosis
patients show when they first come.
64% of General Physicians say cough is the most common symptom that
tuberculosis patients show when they first come.

Research Objective
The objective for the survey is to listen to the doctors (Chest Physicians, MD Physicians,
Paediatricians and General Practitioners) and to understand their Knowledge and Perception
of Tuberculosis.

Research Methodology
A structured questionnaire for the study subjects (doctors) was designed within the scope of
given objectives. Mumbai was divided into 6 zones. Within each zones, doctors were
interviewed from different areas.

Research Objective
The objective for the survey is to listen to the doctors (Chest Physicians, MD Physicians,
Paediatricians and General Practitioners) and to understand their Knowledge and Perception
of Tuberculosis.

Research Methodology
A structured questionnaire for the study subjects (doctors) was designed within the scope of
given objectives. Mumbai was divided into 6 zones. Within each zones, doctors were
interviewed in hospitals situated in different areas.

Conclusion
1)On an average, doctors see around 10 patients suffering from Tuberculosis

among the 100 patients that they see.


2)Fever, Cough, loss of appetite and weight loss are the most common

symptoms that patients suffering from Tuberculosis present with.


3)Most common therapy for the treatment of TB is the Four drug Therapy

(Rifampicin, Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide & Ethambutol), AKT4 (Lupin ltd) and


Akurit 4 (Lupin Ltd) are the most prescribed brands.
4)On an average, the treatment for Tuberculosis lasts for 9 months
5)The ratio of Males and Females suffering from TB, is 50:50
6)A protein rich diet, Dairy products and a vitamin rich diet is advisable for

patients suffering from TB


7)Multivitamins, protein supplements tonics and B complex vitamins are

commonly co-prescribed to tuberculosis patients.
